In the main board, I noticed that if I click on my "interesting designation..." thread, it does not open the thread; it just sits there. I thought it might be that I'd read the thread, but I can open OTHER threads repeatedly, just not mine for some reason.

Also, each thread I click on opens in a new tab in Firefox; is there something on your end that is choosing to open a new tab/window rather than re-use the same tab/window?

Look at control center above and set your options. I had the same comment, then went looking and solved it for myself.

Thanks... don't think I've changed any options, but now it seems to be working.

Must have been a stray neutrino.
