Just added a Painted Console - Photos Included
Chuck W. - Saturday, 4 December, 2010, at 11:38:14 am
I bought my Boxster new in 2001 and special ordered it. I hand picking what was important me to me at the time. In doing so I missed some things that I am adding now. I put red seat belts into it a few weeks ago and just added a painted console.

What is interesting is the center console would have been $715 if I ordered it with the car. Doing it now was $255 after selling my stock one ($350 - $95).

Your center console is very striking! I am thinking about doing the same thing to my Arctic Silver, 1999 C2 Cab. interior (it's the Porsche that has the engine going the wrong way!)

Not only is the engine backwards...

You might inspire me to finally do mine. I'm just not motivated yet to take it apart and put it all back together yet.

"Bart, with $10,000, we'd be millionaires! We could buy all kinds of useful things like...love!"
console removal and replacement is not really that much work.

so get inspired and go for it!

If you don't want to sell the console yourself, work with Eric The Plug Guy. He has a swap program. He painted both my consoles and he has by far some of the best customer service I've ever encountered. Takes pride in workmanship, too. My Boxster console looked as good as new when I sold the car seven years later. My other has been in place for a year.

It looked great on my speed yellow with black interior (had yellow belts, too). I don't think a dark exterior with a dark interior would look so hot (Midnight Blue with black interior, for example). So, it could depend on your color combo.
My midnight blue Boxster has the beige interior. I had the console painted body color, and replaced the beige floor mats with blue ones. Looks awesome.

I'd post photos but it didn't work on Photobucket or or on Flickr.

If you're using your Flickr account. Here's how it works:

- In Flickr, go to the size of picture you want (640 X 428 works well here)
- Right click on the picture
- Left click on Properties
- Copy the whole Address (URL) starting with http and ending with .jpg (You can hold the Ctrl key and click the c key to copy)
- Now go to your message and paste the URL in here.

Under here, I've pasted: http://XXXfarm6.static.flickr.com/5250/5238711199_a82846b97c_z.jpg (without the 3 red X's)

and you get:

OK, here goes:

You almost had it.
Guenter in Ontario - Monday, 6 December, 2010, at 7:56:22 pm
You copied the URL in the address bar of your browser.

Instead

After you right click on the picture and left click on Properties.

Copy the Address (URL) in the middle of the little Properties window. Just highlight both lines of the URL and use Ctrl and c to copy.

Yours is:

http://XXXfarm6.static.flickr.com/5122/5232577150_c77ea12fe6_z.jpg (without the XXX)

You don't need to add anything else to the address. Without the XXX above, you get:

Chuck, I'm usually not a fan of interior mods, but that's sharp. Could you share some details about your stereo install there?

It is a Kenwood unit. Very clean look for our cars. Here is a link for a DIY install.
