Snapped a pic today while tech was replacing an air filter element in a newer Boxster, not sure of the MY.

That looks gi-normous grinning smiley The part number on the filter in the picture 987 110 13300 appears to be OEM for the last few Boxster model years but I did not think it was that large. Is it an illusion? cool smiley
if its an illusion it was unintentional.

However, I saw the filter in person and it is huge. The tech told me this air filter has probably 4 times the surface area of the older style. And I believe him.

Sincerely,

MarcW.

Yep, the 987 models have air filters that are significantly larger in surface area than the 986.

The same air filter is used on both the 2.7L and 3.4L models, and --IIRC--along with the same TB and muffler system.

You would think that if this air filter is adequate to handle the needs of the 3.4L motor, that it would be even more so in the 2.7L motor, making the case for less restrictive air filter (K&N) in the base model a difficult sell.
