I guess you can call it intermittent - last time it happened was about 12 years ago! 
Exact same set of circumstances - was cruising along at highway speed and got a PASM failure indicator; car dropped into the firm mode and neither the PASM or Sport mode worked. After turning off the engine & restarting no indicator light and everything works fine.
The first time it happened the dealer saw the failure indicator in the car's computer memory, but couldn't find anything wrong with either the PASM or Sport Chrono Package.
If it only happens once every 12 years I can live with it!
Just curious - anyone else experience this gremlin?
