... an original 987 Spyder trunk lid to make the mold.
Then we laid the fiberglass to obtain an exact duplicate.
This fiberglass lid was then cut and adjusted to perfectly fit the contours of the 986 which although similar, are a bit different from the 987.
Finally a new mold was made from the modified piece.
It seals perfectly over the trunk's rubber gasket, including over the oil/coolant section.
The underside o the lid has al of the structural veins of the OEM to maintain rigidity.
One advantage is that it is lighter Han the OEM .
It's finished in white gelcoat which can then be painted in any Boxster color.
I'll soon have all of the details on my wesie.
Just wanted to share.
Happy Boxstering,
Pedro

and I would prefer to use my own carbon maston wing, as an option to the package.

BTW - TP2 is still going strong!

Very impressive Pedro! Can you provide some additional details on how it attaches, what it looks like open, and what about the original roof? Are you considering a version for non-spyder 987s?cool smiley
WOW!!!

I´ve been looking for one of these since I first saw the pictures of the new spyder!
Was doing my daily Googleing on the matter and fell off my chair when I saw this!

I should have known that Pedro was making one!!! smiling smiley

This is an absolute must have when the Spyder top is ready!!!

Looking forward to hear more info, see more pics and to hear the price.

Mad propps Pedro!thumbs up
looks amazing. will it be available (a) without the third brake light, and (b) without the rear spoiler (the current versions looks like you have to delete the oem spoiler to get it to fit).

This is an exact match to the OEM Spyder lid.
The Spyder deletes the moving spoiler in lieu of the wing and on this one you either remobe your spoiler or deactivate it.
The brake light bar is molded into the lid and is part of the structural support for rigidity.

Looks very nice!

Question(s):

Looking at the photos it appears as more of a cover and not a trunk lid, will you still maintain the function of the rear trunk?

Also if you have a rear storage speaker system will the new cover allow you to keep it?

Thanks

Again, it's exactly as the OEM Spyder.
The whole piece is hinged just behind the roll bars and goes all the way back to the edge of the rear bumper.
It covers where the soft top used to be (now additional storage), and the rear trunk.
You can keep the compartment over the engine. No problem.

This is an actual Spyder with the lid open:

fantastic. i think you will sell a lot of these; certainly one to me. as per another poster here, i would also like to have the option to delete the rear spoiler, or perhaps move to something as shown here (about 2/3 the way down the page) which looks a bit more like the spyder duck tail and less like a wing:

also, please consider an rs carpet kit. the carpets for the 986 are simple and should be easy to reproduce. this way you could add an additional piece so that the compartment left by the removed roof can be properly trimmed.

thanks for the good work.
We will probably offer ...

I prefer the smaller wing myself.
Thanks for all your input.
It's nice to know there's interest and that you give us feedback.

I'm not sure I know what you're asking Jaay.
There will be a modified top (without frame) that will fit the 986.

Will you be using the factory spyder attachment to the windshield is what I meant.
Must see in person! Looks like color may be playing visual games, making humps look bigger than they are. By visual comparison, size is as Pedro says, identical. Wow

Remember that the ...

Any advances?...
Pedro (Odessa, FL) - Friday, 20 July, 2012, at 2:24:44 pm
... there will be pictures soon.
The new canvas top is being finalized.
It's imperative that it seals well so that rain water doesn't get in.
The rear Spyder lid will be auto-supporting, meaning that it will have gas struts like the trunklid and unlike the OEM Spyder that uses a prop stick.
Be patient.

I guess I meant original...for example looking at some pics it seems like the original Spyder has windows that arc down in the back vs. the standard 986 that has more squarish side windows... All sounds cool tho...can't wait to see cost...
Hey everyone,

We have completed the canvas top for the 986 Spyder Conversion. You can see more photos and information here:

jwdbox - Tuesday, 16 October, 2012, at 3:45:27 pm
Call me old fashioned, but IMHO that is an awful lot of effort to put on and remove. I really like the lines of the Spyder and, as I have said earlier when the 987 version was released, I would probably get one but ONLY if they offered it with a simple manual attached softtop. Porsche briefly offered this on one of the 911 varients. cool smiley
Re: So you always liked the Spyder's looks and power,
Mike - Tuesday, 16 October, 2012, at 5:04:19 pm
Yes, the time involved to install our soft top is not quick, but from what we have seen with the 987 Spyder, it takes less time for ours to be removed and or installed.

Here is the original 987 spyder top removal that dealers use to showcase the vehicle:

The whole point of having a "Spyder" is not to worry about the canvas top. A spyder is meant to have no top at all, the canvas is just an extra in case of bad weather conditions.

Thank you for the comment, it's always constructive and we work based on the community feedback.

Also would love to see more detail pic or vid of engine access with this... I assume it is like the original ...but curious to see what this entails.
Looks great in white, I'm not sure I like it in blue.
