What a way to end the year!...

... NOT!!!!!

[i83.photobucket.com]

Just happened a couple of hours ago.
The guy who hit me got distracted while I was waiting for the light to turn green.
Guess who wins between a Jeep Grand Cherokee and a Porsche Boxster?
Oh, and I was the meat in a Jeep sandwich because the impact pushed me under the Jeep stopped in front of me, so the front end is also effed up (pardon my french).

[i83.photobucket.com]

This has been one of the worst years of my life.
Can't wait for a whole week to end it.

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!

Very sorry.

Anyway, Merry Christmas and have a vastly better 2013!

Sorry. The new year will bring better times.
Hopefully not too severe, get 'er all patched up and painted, and you'll be good to go in a few weeks. Happy Holidays regardless!

Drink one (or 3) on me.
Sorry to see Pedro

but on the brighter side, great time if you want to color match your bumperettes.

Hope your back etc is OK. If any doubt, take care of it.
Ouch!

Glad you are OK, the car can be repaired.
Two years ago, I had a similar accident, rear ended by a Camry driven by someone having a "blood sugar episode." I was stopped for a school bus and she braked at the last minute and hit me at an estimated 25mph. I didn't hit the car in front of me. The hazard light button and cigarette lighter both popped out of the dash. I was pretty sore for about a week. Four months and $9,500 later, my car looked like new (yea Watkins AutoBody in Birmingham!). Replaced the rear bumper cover, slight buckle in driver's rear fender (I couldn't even see it), rear trunk floor, two suspension pieces, and did something to the rear end of the unibody frame rails on both sides. I thought they might total it, 2001S with 85,000 miles.
Merry Christmas and hoping for a much better 2013 for all!

Sorry to hear and see that. But it looks like it should be ok after a session with the techno-buffer. Sounds like you are OK, but get checked out anyway. +1 on the carbon fiber or orange suggestions!!

So sad.Glad you are ok.

My 02 was involved in a similar sandwish wreck and cost over $5K to fix. I admit did not suffer the same force of impact, around 5 to 8mph. But even so the repairs requiired a new front and rear bumper covers (paint: lapis blue) and a new headlight assembly and a new taillight assembly. The only sheet metal damage was the piece of sheet metal that runs across the rear of the car right behind the spoiler was pushed in some and the spoiler gaps were obviously off but this was corrected without any real drama.

I sincerely hope that the yahoo behind you did the right thing, stood up like a man, and accepted full responsibility for causing the accident.

I can relate to your frustration. Earlier this year, while driving my '93 968 coupe to a business luncheon, a guy in a tractor trailer decided to swerve into me on the interstate. You have to understand that I never felt a collision, I wasn't jostled, shoved, or moved in the least. We were both going about 40 mph in super heavy downtown traffic. It's literally liked he 'docked' his right-side 'front-most' wheel into my left rear wheel. All I heard was some muted vibration for about 6 seconds.

There were no shoulders, nowhere to pull over, and the truck quickly disappeared into the millions of vehicles on the road.

I continued to my luncheon, lol. I noted that the left rear wheel was fairly gouged up, and there was some scratching & denting in the body panels in front of and behind the left rear wheel well.

I had a shop confirm absolutely no frame or other structual compromises. All told, it took about $3K USD to fix. I was able to get my insurance (State Farm) to reimburse me fully with no problems or after effects. The car drives like nothing ever happened, but obviously it was pretty frustrating going through it.

I know it's a royal pain, but please have faith! Your car will be made perfect again.

Very best regards,

Rick

I have an aerokit 1 front bumper that is yours if you want it for the cost of shipping. Needs paint as it's black but if you need a bumper you are welcome to it.

... called and or written and posted here.
Obviously I'm heartbroken because of my car.
I know it can be brought back to tip top, but it'll never be the same.
I'm now trying to convince the insurance company not to total it.
They obviously want to do that. It's a 15 year-old car with 226,000 miles, with a market value of less than $5,000.00.
I also got a broken foot out of the ordeal and worsened torso and neck aches (from the 5/11 accident) which will eventually heal for the most part.
In the meantime I get to drive a brand new Hyundai Sonata.
Woohoo!
Happy New Year,
Pedro

OMG Pedro,

Hyundai Sonata! That's almost worse than the broken foot. eye popping smiley

I take it it's your left foot and you're driving a ..gulp.. automatic? Is the broken foot as a result of application to the nut that ran into you?

Sure wish you the best in getting your car approved for return to active duty.

Two trunk loads of luck to for a great and luckier 2013.
Wow, a Hyundai Sonata.....

If you want to keep it and repair it yourself buy it back for salvage value.

I had a new Sonata for rental for a week. I thought it offered a lot of value and features for the price and looks like a more exspensive car than it is.

It is a blessing that you were not seriously injured and I wish you full recovery. Better things in the new year ahead.
