986 locked hood - dead battery
tsp1dxh - Saturday, 5 April, 2014, at 1:25:32 pm
Hello. My 2000 Boxster S (986) has a fully discharged battery and a locked trunk. I read Pedro's "worst case scenario" techno lab, but I still don't understand how to access my emergency release cable.

His post states that the cable is accessible after removing the passenger side headlight. As far as I knew, I need trunk access to release the headlight.

Can someone please help me?

Thank you.

Dan

2000's and up should have an electric hood release..

You can energize the solenoid via the fuse box: [www.ask.com]

jlegelis,
I am just about positive that my 2000 does not have the pop-out charging terminal in the fuse box.
...yours is electric, then put a jumper to the fusebox as noted. Ground anywhere to solid chassis ground, positive to a fake-fuse that pulls out. Or you can, as i did, make an adapter from a blown fuse that plugs in more elegantly. Dont try to start the car via this - you could melt wiring. Just enough to get the hood open.

I am going to fashion a similar device as you described, try it and update this post tomorrow. Thank you.

Jlegelis.
Thank you also for your help.

SOLVED- 986 locked hood - dead battery

Thank you to all.
I soldered a fuse to some wire (with it's own fuse) that could be inserted into the fuse panel in place of the central locking fuse. I sent power to it via a jump-box grounded under the foot-well.
That immediately lit up a few things that must also be on that circuit like the door lights. I used the key-fob to lock, then unlock the entire car via the central locking system. That unlocked the lever for the trunk, and SUCCESS!!!!

I can't tell you how appreciative I am of everyone's help in getting me to this place.

What a great group of people you guys are.

I took pictures, but I don't know how to attach them.

Just being curious, couldn't this have been solved by pluging a battery maintainer to the cigar lighter socket ? Would a maintainer supply enough power to pop the trunk open ?

Yes. Had to open my frunk last Friday by plugging in a maintainer that way. It worked for me.
