My battery is NOT dead.1998 Boxster. Key fobs will not lock/unlock doors or rear trunk. Both floor levers for front & rear trunk are LOCKED.
Used Cable behind passenger front headlight to access FRONT trunk.
How the HELL do I open the REAR trunk?
Is there a rear trunk cable? Does jumping fuse C3 pop rear trunk since it's electric?
Thanks! Steve

Hey, that's the pic of my Boxster with the bumper off in your article! Lol. Gundo was helping me change out my exhaust and I decided to take that pic...
Wow!

When I wrote the article several years ago I looked in my archives an there was the photo.
Someone had sent it to me at one time and I had saved it.
It was the perfect shot to illustrate where the emergency cable for the rear trunk is located.
Thank you for being the photographer Boxtaboy.

Anytime...brings back memories. Glad it could be helpful!
I had an even worse case with my Spec Boxster. The rear trunk cable gotten dislodged/disconnected at the latch -- and the safety release cable also had no effect.

The eventual solution was to take the left rear wheel off, take the inner fender liner piece off, and then remove the foam vent cover that sits between the fender liner and the trunk compartment. Since the rear trunk carpet was gone, this allowed reaching a tall human's arm through the hole to reach the latch and pull it as if the cable were pulling it.

But I suspect this would not work if the rear carpet is present since it would presumably be in the way, blocking the ability to reach into the trunk.
I was completely locked out of the rear trunk. both eye loops fell off the mechanism. I took the bumper off and got my "see-snake" into the trunk area through the hole which allows the license plate light wire to pass to the outside. It's a bit over an inch in diameter. I located the loop that was off with the snake. It took a lot of trial and error to follow the snake with a coat hangar to catch the lever to open the trunk. What a relief though when it popped. I added a third "safety wire", not on the post, but on the bar that the post attached. So that if the loops fell off the post again, the wire that would stay and could be pulled from the outside to release the trunk. I'm sure there is a better way, but without knowing exactly what to look for, this is the best I could think of.
