Expect the best, and accept no substitute.
I have a rattling sound from my '00 Boxster S, almost as if the trunk panel is flopping around. I hear it, of course, over bumpy roads or asphalt cracks. It could be coming from the rear passenger tire well. Is there something back there I should check out first? If I were to guess, I'd say it's something easy, but I'm wondering about the convertible top mechanism, too, and worrying it's something there. Any thoughts would be appreciated. thx
... the catalytic converters' heat shields.
There is one shield over each cat.
The shields are held in place by quarter-turn fasteners that tend to rust and get loose or lost.
If one or more of the fasteners is loose the whole heat shield will rattle.
The fasteners are only sold by the dealer but they are not too expensive.
If you find that that is the problem, replace them all, otherwise you will be fixing it again soon.
Happy Boxstering
