..and there are things like the temperature only showing the engine at operating temperature as opposed to real temperature. If my engine is starting to get too hot, I'd like to know before the idiot light comes on so I can be proactive.
More and more, the instructions seem to be "When xx light/message appears, visit your dealer as soon as possible".
