Pity the poor 996, the red-headed stepchild of Porschedom. One apostasy after another; it's water-cooled, it doesn't have round headlights, from the firewall forward its identical to the 986, the not-quite real Porsche.

You know what, the other day, I saw a silver 996 in profile in a shopping mall, and it has a pretty sharp-looking shape, very impressive, very sleek.

I like my 996 GT 3. It has no "nanny" items like the later Porsches with round head lights, and matches my '00 Boxster S with its "fried egg" headlights.

You opinion may vary.
