Purchased a 99 Boxter with 103k miles on it. Previous owner had new clutch installed 10k miles ago but
declined install of Isn bearing. With this type of mileage
and no breakdown would it still be advisable
to replace the bearing???
Its very hard to say. The earliest cars are typically dual-row, which are less problematic than later cars. Regularly driven cars seem to have fewer problems for reasons speculated at length. Its a shame it was not done while the clutch was out - then its the part plus maybe 1-2 hours labor. Truth is, a practiced mechanic can get the transmission in and out in another 4 hours ( Pedro will say less maybe) so the difference is really about $400.

If you drive regularly and maintain your car (oil changes mostly) - truth is that statistics are more or less on your side.

I meant IMS, sorry! Last owner was getting ready to trade it n didn't want to pay. I chg oil every 5k. Otherwise previous owner did maint every 5-10k
miles. It's in good shape w a new clutch. He painted the wheels black, goes with maroon color.
