I quickly browsed over the video presentation. Am I correct to understand that the transmission limit of the keyfob is 2 inches ? If this is the case, eavesdropping the handshake is not a trivial task. While decryption of the key from a captured handshake might be, I feel that I would know if someone was 2 inch away from my keys to capture the data.

According to the paper detailing the design of the Megamos and its vulnerabilities

they were able to reliably disarm the immobilizer and start the car within 30 minutes on all cars and within "a few minutes" on some cars.
