....we took a quick trip to Cuba for the weekend. The tour company Road Scholar arranged 5 convertibles to rake us to dinner on the last night. These cars are family heirlooms. This one was driven by a 3rg generation guy, Ariel, and will be passed to his son. It was powered by a Mercedes Diesel with the complete drive train. These old '50s vehicles are in the majority.

Due to economic embargoes, parts could not be found, so those old American-iron cars are only so on the outside, the inside they are mainly some rigged European drive train.
Oh there are few running old engines, you can tell by the smoke. Those are only used by families and if they are taxis they can only take Cubans for Pesos, not tourists. Those that are in good shape and sporting European and Asian diesels can transport tourist for CUC a special more valuable currency only used by visitors.
