He said a problem with doing some retro colors to their original brilliance is the lack of lead.
It's no small achievement that car paint is now much less environmentally nasty. I don't doubt that the reformulations have altered the ability to duplicate retro colours.

Since it was PTS, I guess that, unless the dealer has some photos, or is willing/able to get some from the car owner, we'll not see the colour. Any chance you'll encounter it again?
so that car was probably just passing through. I'll keep an eye out for it, though. It'll be a while until the next service, but I'll ask if he's got pictures. He showed me small, maybe 6 x 9" factory painted panels for other customers, but said they all have to go back to Stuttgart.
I don't know about 'brilliance' but lead oxide is white.

It affected colors that had a white base the most.

Nothing to do with the metallic content.
