Comfort, touch screens, infotainment systems and convenience are the new must haves.

People just aren't as interested in the enjoyment / skill of driving (as opposed to riding around in) their cars. They want their vehicle to do everything for them. It's too much work to turn on their headlights, change gears, stay between the lines, keep a safe distance, watch out for the truck sitting at a light .....etc.

....and Porsche is marketing the Macan as a "slightly" taller sports car. What's not to like? eye rolling smiley

....coincidence that it happens as the smaller turbocharged engines are introduced in the sports cars?
in anticipation of the rumored engine downsizing.

And how many kids today has ever driven a stick shift? Neither of my ~40 year olds has. They view a car as an appliance, nothing aspirational about it.

I'd imagine a car of Porsche's cost would be the last car they might be willing to learn on.
I went back a few more years--this is how the same Box/Cay sales number for Aug.-Oct. look 2012-2016:

2012--1102
2013--1926
2014--1849
2015--1935
2016--1336

It doesn't really surprise me. I think tnat Chris Harris summed it up best in his reviews. The 2017 Boxster is the best car in its class out there. It's just not as satisfying as the 981. I know there are quite a few on this board who feel the same way.
