The difference in speed between the base and the S is mostly a figment of Porsche marketing and cost accounting imagination.

The 718 manual sounds like a amazing Porsche that undoubtedly will 'catch on'.

Primarily a driver's car, rather than a pampered, polished, back roads cruiser. cool smiley

Pix 6 & 7 look so F-car-like from the front wheel forward. Thanks for sharing.
Pretty strong review. Everything seems great except the sound.

I followed one recently on the road and it does sound very different.

The article's performance numbers were surprising--and no mention of lag.
The S/manual I drove last year was very quick; the base with PDK was decidedly less quick--which seemed odd at the time.
If these time are representative, the question would be why anyone pay the upcharge for the S?

He tries hard to rationalize the sound, but the proof of the (sound) pudding is in the listening, towards the end of the review, starting at about 18.00.
Chris Harris is spot on. The new Boxster is the best in its class. it's a great car, just not as go as the one you could buy last year.

If you buy a car by the numbers on the spec sheet, then you'll like the new Boxster better.

If you want an engaging car, one with soul that gives you a thrill at every gear change as you carve through the twisties, the 891 is the one to have.
Yep, and here's a fella who had a 986, then 987s tip and then 987s manual, then also bought a 718s to drive in addition to his 987s, and hated it. Ended up selling the 718s and replacing with a Panamera and 991 GTS, and kept the 987s! I think if you have never driven a Boxster with the flat 6, you'd love the 718, but otherwise would have a hard time liking the new flat 4.
