About 4K miles on it in 20 months. Bosch group 48, 760 cca (OEM spec. 690). Always used a trickle charger.
No warning signs. Spirited driving on the day with temperatures near 100 degrees F. Pulled over to access front trunk, stopped the engine, then wham. No juice. Windows cycled partially up, trunk pulls locked, lots of clicking and buzzing.
Got a jump from AAA and drove straight home, no incidents, no radio and no A/C (keeping draw to a minimum). Parked in the garage, stopped the engine and saw that other accessories worked, cooling fans ran slowly. No restart. Charged the battery after the temperature cooled down a bit. Not starting.
Returned the battery to Pep Boys and they gave full exchange value. The battery was completely dead. I have never had a battery that failed so suddenly, without warning and with so few miles on it. Hot weather was the culprit?
Replaced with a Bosch AGM, similar size and specs. for 2000 S.
Have an Optima in another car. Happy with that one so far.
