Not meaning to sound pedantic, but Memorial Day is a solemn day of remembrance for everyone who has died serving in the American armed forces, as two uncles of mine did.

It's not a celebration and there's nothing happy about it.

You can enjoy the holiday while still remembering those who paid the ultimate sacrifice.
You can also choose to celebrate a life of a person when you remember them, as I remember quite a few close friends and my grandfather who died wearing the uniform.
