A bit off topic, but given the always present threads on Boxster engines...thought this article on using a "shock wave generator" to power a car would be of interest:

I'm sure it will bring with it its own set of problems/limitations, but the idea is interesting.
and it was expected to replace the traditional 4 stroke engine?

I had just persuaded my father to buy some ToyoKogo (Mazda) stock when the '72 gas crisis hit and the whole rotary engine move aborted.
I traded an RX-8 for my Boxster. (Had an RX-7 before that) The rotary engines definitely were the smoothest I have felt, due to no reciprocating parts. The mileage, though was horrid. Basically, the same as any two-stroke engine, it had to run at higher RPM to generate decent power.
