Re: 02 Boxster S top inner liner getting sticky by sides of rear window

Has anyone noticed their cloth liner getting sticky and when top is down it marks up about 2" of the sides of the rear window? I felt the backsides of the liner in that aera and it is getting sticky from something.

At this age (20+ years) plastic materials start to deteriorate and break down.
Sometimes you can "clean" sticky surfaces with acetone or similar but other times you need to replace.

I thought I should respond so others would know what the cause was for the sticky transfer. On both sides of the plastic window are wide bonding strips that cover the vertical seams of the inner top. Over time they had become sticky and the sticky was transferring to the cloth inner top liner. When putting the top down the liner would rest on the outer edges of the window transferring the sticky to it. I first tried cleaning the liner with alcohol but that didn't seem to get the sticky out so I then took alcohol on a paper towel and wiped the top seam bonding strips until they weren't sticky. Now when I put the top down I make sure that the cloth liner will not be touching the window. So far so good.
