Expect the best, and accept no substitute.
I have the factory CD changer installed in the front trunk.
Recently tried using it...CD's seem to load fine but there is no sound.
The sound from the radio is fine.
Any ideas what might cause this behavior?
Thanks!
i’m guessing that it’s been 20 years since the changer was used? tongue sticking out smileytongue sticking out smileytongue sticking out smiley

um, i mean, when was it last successfully used? are the cds in upside down? does the cd info get presented on the radio display? do the songs appear to play (with song title presented)?
Have you checked the connectors in the frunk?
The changer may be getting power, but could have the audio disconnected.
Happy Boxstering,
Pedro

Racecar spelled backwards is Racecar

"Racing is life. Anything before or after is just waiting" ... Steve McQueen as Michael Delaney in "LeMans"

"If you wait, all that happens is that you get older"... Mario Andretti

"Being second is to be the first of the ones who lose" ... Ayrton Senna
Thanks. The box is mounted on a metal plate and the wires disappear below that.
Should I try removing it to check the wires?
Yeah...been awhile since I've used it. winking smiley
The CD's are in the cassette properly.
The display shows the CD # and track # and I can change CD's from the radio panel.
So, only issue seems to be sound
Just remember in this case the volume device is not under your right foot. grinning smiley

Turn the radio knob on the Left side to the right.

Good luck.

My radio doesn't have knobs...just rocker switches
You're onto something there Mike. I've always thought the volume control on the Boxster stereo sits under the right foot. smileys with beer
1 you know the head unit works since the radio plays
2 you could have a selector switch issue but that is very very rare
3 it powers up, so power is to the CD unit and it's turning on
4 soooo
4.1 connect another player to the input (if it is connectorized with RCAs or something) and see if THAT plays. All AUX inputs are the same - somewhere between 1-2v rms (should be 1 but many over drive them)
4.2 put a voltmeter on the outputs (if accessible) and look for a signal

As pedro said heck tat all is connected, tight and clean.

Of cousre an internal part, opamp or such could have failed. Unlikely, and if so, fiding and fixing will not be worth it. If its the unit tae this opporutnity to re route the wires to a connector on the dash and plug in your player/phone

Thanks, Grant.
I think the connectors are fiber optic. Maybe age is coming into play?
i first installed then years later pulled the cd changer in my ‘98. just plain ol’ boring ol’ rca jacks. i’m almost positive that’s what you’ll find behind the carpet. fiber came in later years.
