It was the water pump alright, and Pedro did a nice job putting Humpty back together again Johnby NuovaZeta - Main Forum
Thanks for the advice. On reflection, the water pump does seem a likely cause. I will try to contact Pedro tomorrow and arrange for a flatbed. regards Jed... er I mean Johnby NuovaZeta - Main Forum
Just 1 mile from home tonight I started hearing a kind of scraping noise from the engine. It would come and go but the closer I got to home the more frequent. It is hard to describe because it did not seem in tune with the engine i.e. did not seem to change frequency with engine RPM, or car speed - but when the engine RPM increased the scraping would start, then stop. There were no warning lightby NuovaZeta - Main Forum
My advice, get it checked out. I had a slight rattle in mine for a few weeks that just tonight turned into a big rattle and when I parked the car there was steam coming from one of the side vents and a clear slipery fluid emptying out under the engine :-(by NuovaZeta - Main Forum
Every day. :-) It's reliable but I do try to keep it clean and avoid rain if I can. Johnby NuovaZeta - Main Forum
If you use Google Chrome then the images in the Affiliate section do not load and it is not possible to see or click on any of the Affiliates. I use Google Chrome 18.0 I tested on FireFox and Internet Explorer and it works with no problems. best Johnby NuovaZeta - Board suggestions
QuoteSan Rensho Drivers in Miami are the biggest @ss-holes in the world and I can say this because I live in Miami. Yep! I'm glad I'm not the only one who thinks this, I have just moved to Miami and have to pretty much agree. It's dog eat dog out there on the Dolphin expressway sometimes. I've been saved by quick reactions and having a good handling car on several occasions. It keeps you focuseby NuovaZeta - Main Forum
QuoteLaz Came across credible evidence once (pre-internet) that the name "Porsche" is "Borislav" Germanicized. Almost as important... Budweiser is a Germanicized version of the Czech word Budvar, or more fully: Budějovický Budvar. By the way, the original Czech beer puts the American version to shame. Johnby NuovaZeta - Main Forum
Haven't driven a 996 Porsche but I did ride my 996 Ducati superbike at 250 km/h on the Autobahn a couple of years back. Autobahn tip: if you are doing less than 200, get out of the fast lane or some angry German is going to get hostile up your tailpipe :-) happy motoring, Johnby NuovaZeta - Main Forum
Read this about clays. It might change your mind... regards Johnby NuovaZeta - Main Forum
QuoteBurg Boxster Use least invasive method possible. If not correcting, then move onto something ever so slightly more aggressive. Before I'd go w/ either of those rubbing compounds, I try the following in order: - clay bar w/ detail spray - white vinegar and water - hand glaze - swirl remover by hand - swirl remover by machine - very mild polish by hand - very mild polish by machine - mildby NuovaZeta - Main Forum
QuoteLeeper simple rubbing compound (I still prefer 3M), followed by hand glaze, then wax it. I had the same problem today on my hood. It was a hot day and didn't get to it 'till I got home later in the day. I used 3M hand glaze, had to rub like heck three times to get the blemish to go. Then, like Leeper says I used wax. Now it looks OK again. regards Johnby NuovaZeta - Main Forum
This just in from BBC News... The designer of the iconic Porsche 911 sports car, Ferdinand Alexander Porsche, has died at the age of 76. http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-europe-17637175 Johnby NuovaZeta - Main Forum

Hi all, I just wanted to share my childish joy at buying my first ever real sports car. A 2001 Boxster. At $13,000 and 63,000 miles I probably could have paid a little less for it if I wasn't in such a hurry. But I was getting frustrated with paying too much money for a crappy rental car and needed to move on. The point is that thanks to the Porsche I love driving again. I love the feeling Iby NuovaZeta - Main Forum
Hi Tony, thanks for the link, sounds like exactly what I am looking for but I am out of the country now until mid-January. Will check back in with the forum when I return. I am still keen for a Boxster. Johnby NuovaZeta - Main Forum
Thanks for the excellent advice everyone, especially about 'not sweating' a bit of minor cosmetics, and for recommending a PPI. I will certainly do that and consider it money well spent. happy driving, Johnby NuovaZeta - Main Forum
Actually my first Porsche. I am thinking about buying a 2001 Boxster, but it has a ding, poking outward, in the rear trunk lid, small but noticeable paint chips all over and the rest of the paint has the usual shallow scratches that come with poor washing practices and not enough waxing. The interior looks very good for its age. The canvas roof looks good, but has the fold marks either side thatby NuovaZeta - Main Forum
