Here's a link for AAA's instructions for towing Porsches: I printed out a copy and put it in the trunk.....just in case I needed a tow and the truck driver didn't know how to tow my car. Billby whall - Main Forum
Is the CDR-24 new to the car? Does it show "Porsche Protected"? Since the MY2003 9X6 cars were introduced they have had the MOST fiber optic bus linking the radio, telephone, CD player and the CAN bus together in an unholy alliance which makes updating the audio system nearly impossible. One other thing the MOST bus does is eliminate the need for the radio code to enable it's use. The radio noby whall - Main Forum
Autohausaz sells the sensors for $8.85 (OEM) or $3.98 (after-market) each. (986/996) No dog in the fight; just a satisfied customer. Billby whall - Main Forum
Here's a link that talks about using a (radioactive) thorium fired steam turbine to make electricity to power a car. And, you think an accident in a battery powered car like a Tesla S might be problematic............. It is an interesting idea. Probably more useful as an electrical generator for your home. Remove instrument cluster: a. Disconnect the cable from the negative battery terminal using a 10mm wrench. Cover the battery terminal to keep the cable from accidentally contacting the terminal. Depending on the Model Year, make sure the hood doesn’t get closed and locked. And have the radio code handy. b. Press hazard-warning button so it projects out. The button can be pulled off by hand. I had the IMS bearing in my MY02 Targa replaced with the DOF kit including a replacement ceramic IMS bearing. The work was done by a friend who has done several LN bearing replacements. (The original bearing seems to me to be perfect with about 64,000 miles on it.) I have about 100 miles on the car so far.....and all seems OK. The installation was pretty much routine, comparable to the LN kit, exby whall - Main Forum

I'm not totally sure of the facts leading up to this situation.......but, it seems that Safelite removed the windshield from a Boxster at my dealer and left without replacing it with a new windshield! The rub being that the dealer doesn't use Safelite's services. My dealer uses an independent for glass replacement. The car's owner may have arranged to have Safelite change the windshield. But, tby whall - Main Forum
Steve, The main picture in your last post is an oil pressure transmitter for a 911. It has two terminals - one for the oil pressure gauge, the other for the low oil pressure light. The inset picture shows the oil pressure transmitter for a Boxster. It has a single terminal - for the low oil pressure light. I'm not sure what "they" mean by the term emergency switch. Here is the page from Pelican'by whall - Main Forum
It looks like the oil pressure transmitter. Billby whall - Main Forum
RennTech.org is an excellent source for technical information. As far as a social site goes.........it's difficult to beat Pedro's Board. Billby whall - Main Forum
BROKEN PLUG HARDWARE. For those MY01 – MY04 DIY’ers who have broken the lock on one or more of the instrument cluster plugs or who are afraid they might, here’s the part number you need : PNA 721.04.300.202. This part number gets you a package with the three colored (blue, green, gray) covers/locks and all three black plugs. They only come as a set of three and cost $27.00 (dealer). No, not the 356 Cabriolet (although it is very nice)........ Billby whall - Main Forum
Carl, I don't think you'll find a speedometer cable. Everything is electronic behind the instrument cluster. Good luck, Billby whall - Main Forum
Bruce, Having owned two CPO'ed Porsches, I feel emboldened to address the CPO situation. A Porsche CPO can only be issued by a Porsche dealer who has title to the car in question. A CPO (warranty) can be transferred from one private owner to another private owner. If a CPO'ed car is sold to a non-Porsche dealer, any remaining time on he warranty is voided. In other words , as far as dealers go,by whall - Main Forum
The last MY car to have a radio code was MY02. Subsequent MY cars have the (in)famous MOST bus which does away with radio codes. Billby whall - Main Forum
Don't forget to turn the wheels so the front of the tire points toward the curb if you are facing down hill.....or the rear of the tire if you are facing up hill. Billby whall - Main Forum
If you are looking for a cover for a 986, the part number is 996-551-621-00. The MRSP is a hefty $8.83 plus sales tax. Billby whall - Main Forum
Here is the information I got at my dealer this afternoon:: MOVING CONVERTIBLE-TOP TO SERVICE POSITION: 1. Remove left and right wind deflector inserts from the roll over bar. 2. Open the convertible top until a dimension of approximately 100 mm is achieved between the windshield frame and the front convertible top bow. 3. Reach through the opening in the roll-over bar and unclip the tensionby whall - Main Forum
When your dealer quotes prices for parts "at cost", make sure he doesn't use a "price matrix" cost. My heretofor trusted dealer has recently started using price matrixing to come up with parts costs. For example, a lower control arm has a MSRP of $250 and the dealer wanted to charge me $406. When I called him on it, he relented and sold me the part for the MSRP less 10% PCA discount. If I am not mistaken, a bad CPS will keep - among other things - the fuel pump from operating. So attempting to start the car by pushing (which Porsche discourages) won't work. Also, a bad CPS will not necessarily illuminate a CEL. Billby whall - Main Forum
++replacing tire with bulge. You might also check the wheel for damage too. A bent wheel may not fail but may be impossible to keep from imparting unwanted vibration to the steering wheel. Billby whall - Main Forum
Check out this link: This is for the physical installation of an older 2DIN Pioneer nav/stereo system. There is another link for the electrical installation. The latest Pioneer 2DIN system, that I have knowledge of is the AVIC-Z130BT,which has Bluetooth, iPod, Pandora, satellite radio, etc., etc., integration capabilities. The installation is pretty much the same as the above referenced unitby whall - Main Forum
Here's a link to RennTech.org....another good source of information: A hard copy of an Owner's Manual can be purchased from Porsche for about $25-30. The information in an Owner's Manual will save a number of questions that usually elicits a response of RTFM! Here's information concerning the Owner's Manual: Billby whall - Main Forum

Pedro, The car has a Tiptronic transmission. In a 996, can the Tiptronic transmission be pulled separately? Or, does the entire engine/transmission package have to be pulled? Billby whall - Main Forum
