The link provides an interesting historical link from where we were in the late 70's until today. It's clear that little was done from roughly mid-80's until now, mostly because gas prices were low, in constant dollars, so there was no major groundswell for better mileage from the government or consumers. I'm not sure I understood the relationship in the new numbers--CAFE vs. Mileage sticker; Cby MikenOH - Main Forum

Turbo 4, 2.0L producing 240BHP and 260 Ft/Lbs of torque. If I've read the article correctly, the normally aspirated 3.0L six is going away; too bad, since it loves to wind but is a bit bit low on TQ in the latest configuration (non-turbo). From the performance figures quoted, this car is way slower than the current base 987.2: 0-100KPH in 6.9 sec. Is there a dramatic difference in weight betby MikenOH - Main Forum
Your list of things to do should cover just about everything that needs to be replaced at that mileage. Regarding the air filter-it almost makes you wonder if the PO or their mechanic didn't know where the air filter element was so it didn't get changed; looks like it's been in there for 10's of thousands of miles.by MikenOH - Main Forum
Hard to imagine a filter looking that bad with all the other work the previous owner had done. A look inside the TB might in order to go along with the new filter.by MikenOH - Main Forum
Wow --what a steal of a car; amazing what $4800 and a bit of elbow grease can do to bring a car with a few miles on it back to life.by MikenOH - Main Forum

That makes sense; IIRC, the chevy small block back in the day was 5-6 qts. 16 qts--I can't imagineby MikenOH - Main Forum
The '99' had a 8.75L capacity with the 2.5L engine; the '06' has a 7.75L oil capacity with the 2.7L engine. Any thoughts on why the higher displacement engine in the later car had a lower oil capacity? Dimensionally I think these blocks are about the same, with some changes in stroke length and other internals. Dropping a qt. of oil capacity would seem to be a pretty significant reduction but foby MikenOH - Main Forum
Those GT3 LCA's probably didn't hurt either. Too bad you couldn't make WG-- a nice track despite the weather.by MikenOH - Main Forum
I can say that after running them for 3 years they are very close to the equivalent of the PS2 tire for: -Ride quality -Dry/wet weather traction (actually better than the PS2-amazing in the wet at full tread) -Noise levels -Tread life (15K on rears, 20k+ on fronts) The only downside I can think of is that they will flat spot if you don;t drive them for a few days, but that will clear up as theyby MikenOH - Main Forum
Marc: I agree the correct amount is better rather than under or over. I've also developed a dislike to this electronic measuring system rather than the dipstick because of the imprecision of anything in the over zone--it could be 1/2 qt. or 3 over. A dipstick to me makes great sense to me --even as a back up--despite causing a few cents more. I've had 4 mechanics work on this car since I've ownby MikenOH - Main Forum
How do I know that?--well, besides having read the manual, I went through an oil change recently and the person doing it didn't reference the 06 specs and proceeded with the 986 specs--8.75L. After the car started and ran a bit and then was turned off, the oil level was at the top bar--I saw it and assumed he saw it but deferred to the mechanic. I left and was heading home, stopped at a light andby MikenOH - Main Forum
Part of the problem might be that the purchaser has to make a conscious decision to buy the tires from TR while they are on your site. When I'm ready to buy tires, I might not be thinking of this or any other site in particular, other than TR's. Would it be possible to have TR add to the tire buying process an acknowledgment of a second website--like this one--from which the purchaser may haveby MikenOH - Main Forum
If they chunk at an auto-X I'd hate to think what would happen at a DE. I thought these were supposed to be a street tire that could handle the stresses at the track?by MikenOH - Main Forum
If you've got the extended sump and you're running 9+ quarts, it is less of an issue, but it's been suggested to me to run a 1/2 qt low on the stock sump which is 8qts. on a 987.by MikenOH - Main Forum
QuoteDave In MD QuoteDave In MD Ran into an issue at the track this weekend. Hard down hill braking into a hard left hander and back on the gas generated a nice cloud of oil smoke. For subsequent laps I reduced speed and throttle through the turn to stop it. From what I'm reading this could be caused by oil starvation and the solution is installing an accusump. The car is a 2003 2.7, I'm runnby MikenOH - Main Forum
It would seem the 911 is going the true GT route--bigger/ plusher, less sports car; the interior looks like the styling keys all came from the Panamerica.by MikenOH - Main Forum
Dead on--I think the oil filter is a better source for finding metal particles. If the filter is doing it's job, why you would you expect to see many particles on this drain plug? With the oil constantly circulating, wouldn't the filter be the most likely place to trap these particles rather than a small magnet in the bottom of the sump. I don't know how strong this magnet is in the drain pluby MikenOH - Main Forum
Yep--China is the new market, so that's where you have to sell your cars. Europe is down by nearly 40%; the US is up slightly. I'll have to look for info on the model number sales since I'm intrigued about which cars are being sold in China; my gut tells me the SUV would be a real hit over there.by MikenOH - Main Forum
I didn't see the breakdown by model but it's amazing the number of P cars being sold there; same time period last year was 500 units vs. 2500 7/11. Recycling those worldwide trade dollars and euros, one P car at a time. Just out of curiosity, how are the roads there and traffic conditions? Any tracks? More importantly, how many dealerships? Can't imagine they'd fake that.....right?by MikenOH - Main Forum
It's bit a while since I auto-X'd but when I did: I added pressure in the front to prevent roll over and left some out of the rear; I also ended up going either even pressures (f/r) or even a bit more in front--this was on PS2's. On Victoracers, lower pressures with mostly even f/r. Given the ranges of the suggestions here, don't be afraid to experiment to see what works best. Chalking the sidby MikenOH - Main Forum
SY was always one of my favorite colors on a Boxster and your mods make it look like a different car. On another subject, I guess I missed it, what was the outcome on the replacement motor that failed? Did you find out what went bang and have you replaced that motor?by MikenOH - Main Forum
The Cayenne as a sales leader (amazing) and the Chinese market leads in sales growth.by MikenOH - Main Forum
Too bad; given the number of Boxsters/996s on the road with that size rear tire, you would think that would be a natural size tire to make.by MikenOH - Main Forum
