SY was always one of my favorite colors on a Boxster and your mods make it look like a different car. On another subject, I guess I missed it, what was the outcome on the replacement motor that failed? Did you find out what went bang and have you replaced that motor?by MikenOH - Main Forum
The Cayenne as a sales leader (amazing) and the Chinese market leads in sales growth.by MikenOH - Main Forum
Too bad; given the number of Boxsters/996s on the road with that size rear tire, you would think that would be a natural size tire to make.by MikenOH - Main Forum
Check the part numbers on both pumps to see if they are the same . Also, see if you can find out what years and models are affected, if this is just a bad batch or--as in BMW's case--a bad design.by MikenOH - Main Forum
It's my understand that the oil cloud results from the AOS being overwhelmed with oil that gets stuck in the head and is dumped into the intake. The accusump will help keep a supply of oil going to the motor during hard cornering but I'm not sure what it can do about getting the oil back out of the head and back to the sump. I think that was remedied in the new motor with additional oil pumps-by MikenOH - Main Forum
Bob: Congratulations on the anniversary. What a great trip--I remember doing in '86' in a rented Toyota soup can and was glad I was upbound rather than downbound in the switchbacks. The drive has to be hoot in a Boxster, with the top down. Glad to hear the road is still open despite the washouts.by MikenOH - Main Forum
Did a search on this forum regarding this topic and didn't find much info. From the Cayman and Rennlist boards, there seems to be a number of people with failing HPFP's in their DFI engines, including the 997's. Reportedly, there is a Porsche TSB out to replace them. If true, I hope they have a quicker fix than BMW had. Links:by MikenOH - Main Forum
QuotePedro (Weston, FL) ... you are going to bend the seam and worst case your car can fall off the jack. You should ONLY put a jack under one of the four jacking points which are structurally made for this. The best way to put a car on 4 stands is: Place the jack under the right rear jacking point and lift until you can place a jackstand under the right front jacking point. Do the same on tby MikenOH - Main Forum
thanks for all the replies. The fluid was replaced in April, I've had no spongy pedal to this point but have thought about the bleeding just to ensure that I haven't gotten any air in the system since the DE. Here are some comparisons on various brake fluids; check out the SRF wet boiling point: Fluid type Fluid description Dry/Wet Boiling Point Size/per bottle Price/per bottle ATE Supby MikenOH - Main Forum
Grant: Thanks for the reply. SRF is probably overkill for my DE application but I have to say at the DE we attended, with out side temps in the 90's, I had no fade whatsoever running a set of rotors that were almost done and pads that were around 60% I was really impressed with this fluid. I'm thinking of just bleeding with Motul 600 to ensure there aren't any air pockets; I hate to spend thatby MikenOH - Main Forum
I have a DE coming up in a few weeks and was thinking of having the brake fluid bled to ensure there wasn't any air present. The fluid is Castrol SRF and was installed in April. I checked with the shop that would do the work and was advised that the best price they can find on this fluid is $75/L; by comparison,Motul runs about $16/500ml. I have difficulty spending $75/L knowing that a small frby MikenOH - Main Forum
Mike: Is either Avalon's engine or transmission built in the US?by MikenOH - Main Forum
We did the tour also (in 2000) and at that time, they had one person doing an engine start to finish. I saw a program on the tube a few months back that highlighted various car factories which including the Stuttgart plant, showing the assembly of a GT3.The motor seemed to be going through a much more automated process than 10 years ago and with more people involved in the building of an indiviby MikenOH - Main Forum
+1. I'm about to change out my fronts (06 Base) with 33K on them and an estimated 40 track days. I'm down 1+mm in thickness with significant cracking around the holes, but street braking is still solid with with no pulsation. The rears are down a1/2mm in thickness and with minor cracking around a few holes. Getting this many track days out of a set of front rotors sold me on getting OE replaby MikenOH - Main Forum
Ok, so if I understand this, Jake, you do offer a 1 year warranty on the bearing (installed by your shop or a dealer that has been trained by you?), covering only that IMS bearing....right?by MikenOH - Main Forum
Hmm.. just out of curiosity, if I buy a stock IMS from Suncoast or get one from a local dealer and have it installed by the dealer or a Indi, is that part warrantied by Porsche? If so what are the terms?by MikenOH - Main Forum
Roger: So if I understand this statement, even if he puts in the IMS replacement unit himself, he doesn't warranty the unit from a IMS failure because it is not part of an engine assembly that he has assembly completely himself..right?by MikenOH - Main Forum
The latest news indicated the car was going 130MPH when it crashed. It's one thing to put your own life at risk, but quite another to do the same to a passenger and the motoring public at large that may have misfortune to cross paths with someone this irresponsible. This incident reminds me of the crash in FL involving the kids driving a M5 after a party on a private airstrip. In that crash ,aby MikenOH - Main Forum
3 beers and 3-4 shots over 4 hours before he left the bar. The car was torn apart by the crash and then it burned. I'll let the corner make his determination as to the amount of alcohol in the bloodstream and the state police will estimate the speed of the car when it crashed, but my take is that mixing alcohol with a fast cars makes bad things happen.by MikenOH - Main Forum

The wankel engine might have had a future back in the early 70's when gas was $.33/gallon, but despite all the work Mazda has thrown at this motor over the years and the additions of modern engine management systems, it still provides lousy gas mileage--relatively speaking--and reliability on the the new motor in the RX8 has not been good. Oops--should be $1.45 USD to the Euro, putting it at around $45K USD unless they come up with special (lower) pricing for the US market.by MikenOH - Main Forum
They mention a starting price of 30K euro on the Porsche model and 25K euro for the Audi. With the current conversion at 1.45 euros to the dollar, that puts the Porsche version very close to the current base Boxster pricing.by MikenOH - Main Forum
Ouch--more competitors for the Miata from three German variants. Sounds like a GM marketing plan--same basic platform sold through different brands, each with different twists to meet their respective markets-- for plebeian (VW) to upmarket (Audi) to sports car crowd (Porsche) How big is the market for a sporty 2 seat roadster in the $25-30K range?by MikenOH - Main Forum
