I got a Chevy Volt with only 50-60 miles of EV range, but the daily driving is almost always on battery. The fun factor is high - full torque at once... And yes, we ARE getting into real trouble with CO2 emissions.by TheFarmer - Main Forum
I noticed that the ericpetersautos has the tagline "Autos, Motorcycles, and Libertarian Politics". Were they were against horseless carriages until the 1930s because of impracticability. BTW, Porsche claims that the Taycan can be charged to 80% full in 15 minutes - which is something in excess of 700-800 MPHby TheFarmer - Main Forum
Actually, if the tires have an asymmetric pattern ther is an “inside” and “outside”, just like your wheels, so no remounting is nesessary. Just move the right to the left. But now the tire will be rolling in the opposite direction, and I think that is likely to be a significant concern. I would just not do it. If the tread pattern is symmetrical, then yes, you would want to re-mountby TheFarmer - Main Forum
I saw on Flatsixes that Porsche is leaving WEC LMP1 racing and joining Formula E. FlatSixes article With Europe leading the charge on getting rid of gasoline and diesel cars, Porsche is not going to be left behind, I guess. Having grown up in Buffalo, but now in DC, I can say that driving in deep snow at really cold temperatures is a piece of cake compared to driving in ½" of snow at 30 degrees (as we have in the DC area). The road itself is not frozen, so you get a layer of water between your tires and the pavement. Not good! There are possibly 2 reasons for the brake light to come on: pad wear - sensor wires short out low brake fluid I have never seen #1 be intermittent, so I would check for any leaks in your brake system. But if it is the pad wear sensors, you might need only the front pads and rotors, depending on when your brakes were last done.by TheFarmer - Main Forum
You never got to drive my fathers 240z, did you? Now the Z series was a car that did suffer from bloat, but the 240 was just amazing. (Oh, and it was a Datsun!)by TheFarmer - Main Forum
I agree that I like the appeal of a small, light vehicle. I greatly prefer to rent a Suzuki Samurai in the Caribbean rather than a Range Rover (yes, the latter do take up the entire road. And yes, you can't really get a Samurai anymore). On the other hand, I am so happy with the handling of my 987 that I feel that it is light and tiny. The physical dimensions don't matter as much as the mass aby TheFarmer - Main Forum
Hey, just who is putting fingerprints on your car????by TheFarmer - Main Forum
My '05 987 has a wear mark on the outside of the top, about 1" long, horizontal. It is a few inches above the clamshell, a few inches behind the window. Both sides quite even. I assume that this is due to the folding of the fabric when the top folds down. So far, it is not a hole. In the past, I have had trouble with the elastic straps that keep the outer rim of the fabric inside the framby TheFarmer - Main Forum
There is one obvious reason for the high cost of Porsche parts - compare the number sold each year to the number of Civics! Can you imagine the cost difference in keeping parts in stock? But then your 99 is likely a Porsche "classic", which means that Porsche will be making and/or maintaining parts for them for a long, long time. Oh, and the parts are generally well (if not over) engineered whby TheFarmer - Main Forum
What's with that front tire?by TheFarmer - Main Forum
At least you seem to have been able to catch it before requiring the flatbed tow and large labor charge. When I was stranded in Fairfax, VA at work, I looked up porsche repairs online, and came across Autobahn Service. Good reviews. I was in a bind, so I had the car taken there. No time to consult here on the best place. At any rate, I was very happy with the service, and not really unhapby TheFarmer - Main Forum
I was at Autobahn today to see about my water pump. Luckily, the impeller is intact, so it did not fragment and send all those bits of metal through the cooling system. The bearing at the front of the pump went. Again - thanks to Mike for his post just the other day. Shutting my car down quickly probably saved me a lot of grief.by TheFarmer - Main Forum
Glad I saw your post! I knew exactly what was happening yesterday when I heard a noise behind the seat, had no alternator, low coolant light, etc. Got it taken to the local porsche shop and managed to get home by taking the metro from the end of one line to the end of another. Water pump went, waiting to hear the details. Hope this does not get more contagious! '05 987, 110Kmiles Paulby TheFarmer - Main Forum
Growing up in Buffalo, with lots of gravel roads around, I would beg to differ with you Mark - gravel and snow are very, very different! -- But perhaps not so different as warm, dry hard Macadam pavement from either one. Can anyone find winter tires for 17" wheels for an '05 Boxster? Tire Rack seems to have gone blank on them.by TheFarmer - Main Forum
As a young kid, I played with my cousin running Dinky toy cars through the Carrera Panamerica or something very similar. Somehow we loved rallying. And then we discovered this strange car that sloped down on the back like it sloped down on the front and was all rounded, and had these strange grilles on the trunk! We called these cars turtles - fort their looks. And we loved them for being soby TheFarmer - Main Forum

I gave up on the analog speedo about 10 years ago. What is the point? Analogue or digital, they are both wrong. But I live where speed cameras are everywhere. On the other hand, the tach - I live by the tach.by TheFarmer - Main Forum
Yes, my 2005 is at 98,900 miles. I did the AOS two months ago when I had a small hiccup of a problem. It's a car. Drive it. It's just a car. Drive it. It's also a pretty convenient car for 1 or 2 people: the frunk and the trunk hold a LOT of stuff. I get good mileage on the highway (about 30), so it is not like I have a gas guzzler. My first "Porsche experience" was in my older sister's 914 - the epitome of VW rebranding. It was a fun car - until the interior fell apart. Then my dad got a 204Z that changed my whole outlook. I say that there is room for a light, no-nonsense Boxsterette. I think that the dealer was quite right. People go through "phases", and I was very impressed with my Beamer when I got it in 1999, and I am still impressed with the comfort and manners of it now -- when I ride in it (my sister is now the happy owner). My next phase was "less is more" in the comfort department. My dream car is a mini-Moke or a Suzuki Samurai, but my dream includes being on St.by TheFarmer - Main Forum

This thread is a little old, but I came across something quite interesting yesterday. I decided to go ahead and get some elastic to fix my top. I cut off the few inches of old, worn out elastic and went off to the Joann's Fabric center to see if they had something like what was there. Not only did they have a selection of widths and colors, they had essentially an exact replacement: somethingby TheFarmer - Main Forum
