Tested key at Autozone display - light flashing and their receiver said a signal was being sent. Back to the indie for discussion. The tech (worked at dealer when Boxster introduced) checked to see if immobilizer was recognizing a signal sent by key fob remote - no signal. Tech says in 12 years of working on similar P cars, he has never seen an RF sensor fail, only keys (fobs). Ordered key fob fby jfarris - Main Forum
Marc - I don't have a second remote. Great answers - this forum provides awesome support to Boxster owners!!! I'll week on all that next week and let everyone know what I found. In the meantime Maggie Valley NC at 3,800 ft is a lot nicer than Birmingham! Rafting on the Tuckasegee River was a nice diversion from car problems.by jfarris - Main Forum
Greetings, Thought I had looked everywhere, but just found jackintheboxsters post about 20 down, it may help. 2001 Boxster S, three button remote, good battery. No internal water damage. Over the last 6 months, I've gotten an intermittent double chirp when locking with the remote indicating a fault (every fourth or fifth time I locked the car with the remote). It finally got the point the remoteby jfarris - Main Forum
I'll be manning the Porsche Sport Driving School booth on Sunday and Monday - drop by and say hello. Jim Farrisby jfarris - Main Forum
I'm finally starting to see some wear on one of the seams on the driver's outer bolster. Of course, the passenger's side is perfect. The seat backs look the same. Does anyone know if they are interchangable? Thanks in advance, Jimby jfarris - Main Forum
Black with black top and interior, 6-speed, 3.2L, 248hp 129,XXX miles, owned for 8 years/90K miles This car is fast, comfortable, and will put a smile on our face! Garage kept. Non-smoker. Mostly highway miles. Clean title. What makes this car different from all the others listed – all of the maintenance is up to date on this car; it is ready for another 120,000 miles. Car is 35 miles southby jfarris - Cars for Sale
Thanks Farmer, it did get more contageous. My water pump went out at 126K on Thursday. The initial diagnosis was easy, coolant running out of the back of the car at a local shopping center about five miles from home. Luckily, there was no overheating and I didn't even get a coolant low-level light. I've had a new pump and thermostat on the shelf for about six months, should have acted sooner.by jfarris - Main Forum
Weissach Edition - Liquid metal silver - my favorite color of the ones I've seen so far. The interior looked interesting, hard to tell from the pictures, was it red or orange. Those are the best sort of surprises! Thanks for sharing,by jfarris - Main Forum
Thanks Marc, now if I can get the Birmingham Porsche dealer's Parts Department to return my call from 6 hours ago, I'll get a price (voicemail said it was the parts manager). It didn't take long for me to remember why I don't use their services very often!by jfarris - Main Forum
Another loaded question – kind of like what oil, filter, or tires should I buy: I need shocks/struts for my 2001 Boxster S with 125,000 miles. The fronts are pretty much wasted and one of the rears is now leaking. I am considering selling the car in the near future (this fall), have stopped running SCCA slaloms in the car, and don’t do track days or DE’s. So it is pretty much a stock, daby jfarris - Main Forum
I was hoping for some type of car-to-car DNA crossover, but guess I didn't park my 986 close enough.by jfarris - Main Forum
SCCA Slalom rules allow + - 1" of diameter from OEM sizes. I would like to take advantage of the 1st generation Boxster S 18" wheel widths, but use a lighter combination by using 17" wheels. Does anyone know of 8X17 front and 10X17 back wheels that will fit a 2001 Boxster S? Thanks in advance, Jimby jfarris - Main Forum
Try Auto Chic. I've had one of their covers for my 986 for about five years. It fits well and willl keep a very light rain (drizzle out), it's great for sun protection and not having to put the top up for a short period of time. It does have six velcro fasteners and the tabs that fit in the trunk slot. NFIby jfarris - Main Forum
I chose not to drive my Boxster into Birmingham Tuesday morning, becauuse I usually leave my volunteer job about 2:00pm and head south 30 miles to get home. The weather was forecast to be more intense to the south. Those Hankook RS3's are not snow tires. But, wifey drove her Lexus RX330 to Bible Study in Homewood. Started snowing, temp below freezing, so they dismissed early. The snow immediaby jfarris - Main Forum

2001 Boxster S with 102,000 miles, original IMS bearing, 5,000 mile service interval with Castrol Edge 5W40, clean oil analysis, original water pump, alternator replaced 30,000 miles ago. I have a low to mid-tone whine, it is intermittent, and occurs more frequently at start up pulling out of the garage or when slowing to a stop. I initially thought power steering pump or throw out bearing (oriby jfarris - Main Forum
I should have looked in my Bentley before asking. It says to use a hose and you may have to turn it several times. There must be a baffle or bend where the filler enters the tank and my small hose wouldn't bend or wiggle around it. I'll just plan my driving better the next time I need the tank close to empty.by jfarris - Main Forum
Mark, it has just over a quarter of a tank. It is probably not worth removing the fuel pump to drain it. Before my next slalom, I need to watch the fuel gauge a little closer and get it down to where I want it, then add back what ever I want to put in. Thanks for the idea.by jfarris - Main Forum
I need to drain my tank close to dry, about a quarter of a tank. My small bulb siphon hose ran into some kind of obstruction about 33" down from the top. Any special secret to siphoning or draining gas out of a Boxster? Thanks in advanceby jfarris - Main Forum
In my previous request for help in setting up for the 2013 autoslalom season, I mentioned that most of our courses allow brief soirées into second gear. I have found several sets of 17” and 18” wheels for sale locally and would like an opinion on using 18” wheels versus the current 17” wheels I have. Would this help me stay in first gear or are they sized and matched with tires to haveby jfarris - Main Forum
Thanks Grant, Pedro, & Mike, this kind of information was exactly what I was looking for. The Alabama SCCA group runs at the Oak Mountain Amphitheater just south of Birmingham. The Tennessee Valley Region runs some slaloms in Huntsville, but I haven’t run there yet. The local PCA group does not slalom. So, I’ll stay in SCCA and run in B Stock or the Tire PAX Group I’ll set the frontby jfarris - Main Forum
I would like to get some ideas from other Porsche autocross participants to try to improve my dismal 2012 SCCA autocross experience. History: 1977-1980, Western Washington Sportscar Club in BMW 320i, Forsgrini Formula Ford, and Lotus Elan S2, generally ran in the top 25%. 1980-1985, Germany Region Porsche Club of America and some German Club sponsored events in 914 and 911SC, two PCA class chamby jfarris - Main Forum
Glad you are OK, the car can be repaired. Two years ago, I had a similar accident, rear ended by a Camry driven by someone having a "blood sugar episode." I was stopped for a school bus and she braked at the last minute and hit me at an estimated 25mph. I didn't hit the car in front of me. The hazard light button and cigarette lighter both popped out of the dash. I was pretty sore for about a wby jfarris - Main Forum
Greetings, I had a clunking noise I thought would go away when I replaced the front engine mount on my 2001 Boxster S. The noise remained. At a suggestion on another forum, I replaced the sway bar links, noise remained. When I was bleeding my clutch slave cylinder (what an awful job), I hit and wiggled a small (3/4" diameter) tube that rattled between the heat shield above the muffler and theby jfarris - Main Forum
I was stationed with the Air Force in Frankfurt Germany from 1981 through 1985. It was a fun time to be in Germany, the dollar was strong, the Germans were friendly and the cars were fast. We decided to take our 914 to Germany with us and soon sold it an bought a 911SC. The Germany Region of PCA was very active at the time and one of our primary supporters was Alois Ruf. Mike, I'm trying to get the wife to go to the Petit LeMans with me and camp at turn 5. That is where I usually camp with the TR6 group for the Mitty. What a task, mix Grand Am and ALMS. The rules and philosophies of the two groups seem to be far apart. I like the Grand Am races, mostly because they are available live, locally, but would love to see more than nine cars racing in the premiere grby jfarris - Main Forum
MikenOH, To my knowledge, no one said anything to the Porsche folks that were monitoring the Monday morning comparison. We were on our own Sunday afternoon. Maybe Lawdevil or Jim in SC, who have new 981s could comment on any difference they feel in the brakes. They still work wonderfully well, just feel different from the 986 and 987.by jfarris - Main Forum
I guess I should have listened a little closer in my "language arts" classes. The 981 both drove and rode better than the older cars. The article pretty much attributed that fact to technology and the age of Sean's and my cars. The second generation car was a low mileage 2011. The off-track roads we used had several railroad crossings, plenty of uneven pavement, hills, and generous curves of aby jfarris - Main Forum
