While Porsche has lots of engines and plants, this rate of build for the high end and high priced Cayman/Boxster levels might be bad news for the Porsche sports car models we all love.by mikefocke, '01S Sanford, NC - Main Forum

When I lived in VA there was an Italian store that made 20" pizza that came in a box that perfectly wedged into the 986 trunk about 4" off the floor. Since it was about a half an hour away, of course I volunteered to drive. Just long enough for the trunk to heat up on the way there and keep it warm on the way back.by mikefocke, '01S Sanford, NC - Main Forum

QuoteGuenter in Ontario Thanks for sharing. Makes me appreciate my 981S's six speed manual and NA flat six engine even more. Until you go to sell it and find that most buyers now want an Auto because they have never driven a stick. I was stick only through my first 3 sport cars (Alfa, Alfa, 914) but around 1972 as traffic increased my 8 minute commute at 70 MPH morphed to 50 minutes of creepingby mikefocke, '01S Sanford, NC - Main Forum

Things that I have to do in a hurry I like done with traditional controls. Turn signals, lights, wipers. But the more esoteric items like power distribution displays or efficiency charts or maps I'm OK with being via touch screen. The more you drive your learning of them and how to efficiently and safely activate them increases. I lost an engine because I didn't know that they needed frequent attention. Back in '67. I had had a racing shop change my cams for milder ones and they didn't mention anything about needing to re-torque them after about a k.by mikefocke, '01S Sanford, NC - Main Forum
I participate in another car model forum which is poorly moderated and has degenerated in usefulness within 6 months of lax moderation. It went from a focused helpful site to where the most popular thread is entitled "This forum is painful". You might choose to allow a few weeks of social bonding among the many long time friends and members and then cut it off and force it back to the one subjecby mikefocke, '01S Sanford, NC - Main Forum

I buy at COSTCO and had a case of it on hand. But a three person household does consume it at an amazing rate. All local stores shelves are bare of paper products. Even Kleenex just as the pollen season hits.by mikefocke, '01S Sanford, NC - Main Forum
Our golf club just set a one person per cart rule, no handshakes, don't pick up the pin/someone else's clubs/even someone else's ball, shut down any inside food service, etc. It is amazing how the stress relief you needs coming from attempting to hit a simple little white ball. It is preserving my marriage of 45+ years. I'm going to take a walk.by mikefocke, '01S Sanford, NC - Main Forum
would cost about half what a new glass window GAHH top installed by a professional. The install is pretty straight forward. The only reason you need two people is to lift the old top off and the new top on without scratching. Understand the top from a used 2003-4 car would come with a frame that was different than the one in your car and is superior. It's installation is a 90 minute job by two people, not complex at all. Ordering a glass window top and having someone install it is a much much longer job and more expensive if you have someone else do it. New or used? Plastic window or glass? DIY or shop? If shop, will shop allow you to bring parts? Best...IMHO a good condition used 2003-2004 complete top and frame from a wreck and swap it yourself.by mikefocke, '01S Sanford, NC - Main Forum
so much as the best maintained, best inspection by a Porsche expert via a PPI. Owned 2, both great experiences. The pre-purchase inspection on the second told me what I needed to spend and it wasn't cheap to get it completely into the condition I wanted it to be for confidence. 90K service (most comprehensive), alignment, tires, brakes. I have driven hundreds of miles with a Toyota keeping the speed, watching for cars on the Interstate, and slowing to maintain my distance all while keeping me in the lane. That part is easy. But I am still responsible and only have a few seconds of hands off the steering wheel before it is nagging me to pay attention and at least have a finger resting on the wheel. So that part is there today. Cby mikefocke, '01S Sanford, NC - Main Forum

have a Porsche as our only car? So why does an EV have to be a car for 100% of the trips for 100% of us? We have 2 cars for 3 people. On any trip I make where the EV range would be a significant factor in my arrival time, I can take my 40MPG hybrid SUV. Or I can stop and smell the roses along the way. The days of DC to Houston in a single gulp road trips are long gone. Charging station numbeby mikefocke, '01S Sanford, NC - Main Forum
Your GPS handles all that and directs you to possible/optimal charging stations along your route based on the battery state of charge, the wait time at any charge point, etc. These things are smarter than we are.....by mikefocke, '01S Sanford, NC - Main Forum
I have figured 90-95% of my trips are local. But 80% of my miles are 60 miles to 300. Now having said that, there are electric cars that will go those 250 mile trips just fine providing they aren't in the snow and rain (both MPG reducers) and/or cold. Your CT location argues against that. Still the recharge time for a Taycan or a Model 3 to give you most of the 300 mile back is somewhere likeby mikefocke, '01S Sanford, NC - Main Forum
There is a Prius prime for that. And in a few months the Rav4 hybrid will be available in a plug in. More HP than any 986 every coming out of the factory... 306 IIRC. I wish I had waited for the Model Y even if it is the same cost as a new Boxster.by mikefocke, '01S Sanford, NC - Main Forum
What is right for one person is not what should influence another. I started out working on engines in my teens. Collected an amazing amount of specialized tools over a lifetime. I got tired of working on my cars beyond washing and driving them and doing simple things like battery swaps and windshield arm swaps. I beg to disagree. When I owned both of my Boxsters, I relied on them to get me there in any kind of weather. I took the S through the edge of a hurricane when my other car choice was a Honda CRV with the best rain tires you could buy. The Boxster had take-offs that were 4 years old. I relied on the gas infrastructure to never delay my trip, to never not be available within the next 15 minutby mikefocke, '01S Sanford, NC - Main Forum
My 43 year old MS ChemE son has two Prius hybrids, just installed solar, just downsized, is green as can be and so is his wife. After 2 Boxsters (and a 914 and 2 Alfas), my last two cars have been hybrids. When I look now at the price of premium fuel and factor in the difference in MPG and depreciation, that fun was awfully expensive. And heck, it isn't like I couldn't afford a new 911 Turbo oby mikefocke, '01S Sanford, NC - Main Forum
