Pedro, So this tool will essentially do what the Durametric tool does, only without the need of a PC, and not limited to the number of vehicles it can be used on. Is this correct?by gedwin - Main Forum
I recently discussed a similar issue with my dealer regarding my 981. Although I did not get the low fluid light, when checking for codes with my Durametric cable/software, I get a recurring code (don't remember the number) that indicates an issue with the sensor. He asked if I use RainX fluid, and I do. He said it coats the sensor which then puts out a false reading. He said if I switch to typicby gedwin - Main Forum
I recently had a similar issue with coolant on my 981 base. 1 month after I received my car new, I thought I smelled coolant burning off, so I checked the coolant level and the red stick was bottomed out. I added enough to float it. Checked it a couple times and it was still floating, though I still thought I could smell coolant. I didn't check again for about a year, and then got the low coolanby gedwin - Main Forum
I've had my 2013BB w/PDK now for over 2 years. I came from 30 straight years of manuals, with my previous 4 cars being 2 Miatas and 2 other Boxsters. I still love the PDK. I still use it in manual mode when I want more control or I'm playing with the car. When I commute in traffic, I am generally in auto,, and about 20% of the time in manual. Whatever fits the situation I am in. I love manuals,by gedwin - Main Forum
I remember in the interview it was stated that the engine makes "at least" 385hp, so it looks like they generally will make more, but advertising it at 385hp. I'm guessing another marketing decision.by gedwin - Main Forum
I believe base engines in the 987.2 had IMS and no DI, 987.2S had the 9A1 engine/no IMS. The 981 engines are all 9A1/no IMS.by gedwin - Main Forum

I had originally read that the new Flat4 would come in 3 sizes, starting around 1.5L, though discussions left it in question what car would get a version that small. So, as for the "718", I'm betting on the following: An approximately $40k competitor to the Miata class, simple and basic. Manual trans. Approx. 1.5L Flat4 NA making around 200HP. Styling to remind us of the 550. Mid-engine. Lighteby gedwin - Main Forum
Granted not in the Princeton/Trenton area, but I had very good experience with them on my 981. Porsche approved shop. I'm very picky, and over the years I've used about a half dozen shops and never been happy with the work. Quality is the first shop I would ever recommend. Worth checking them out.by gedwin - Main Forum
Bought it with 17k miles on it. Had the car for a few weeks. Complained that the pedal was stiff. They checked the clutch and discovered it was shot. Wanted to charge me for the whole job. I drove to the dealer and requested to inspect the parts. I pointed out that if I had destroyed the clutch in a 3 week period, wouldn't there be bluing of the wear surfaces (there wasn't)? They backed down andby gedwin - Main Forum
QuoteMarcW At first with my new Boxster I was driving around 20 miles (round trip) for work every day. I was making 60 to 80 mile round trip drives from where I lived 20 miles east of the KC MO metro area all the way to the other side of the KC MO metro area. Then once or twice a week I was driving 150 miles to see my parents. The trouble is this was in the dead of winter and the engine just dby gedwin - Main Forum
"I then asked about interval changes. He said that during warranty, it's important to always follow the manufacturer's guidance. He added that 95% of the oil samples that they receive *didn't *need to have their oil changed. The oil was not worn out, nor was there too many wear particles in it. So much for the 3,000 mile oil change myth vs. data." This is interesting. I still wish I could get aby gedwin - Main Forum
I bought the book too, but I was disappointed in it. I felt it could have been a lot more informative. It doesn't go into much detail, other than the thermal system, which I read about elsewhere. The 2 things I learned are: If you require a new battery, it has to be set up at the dealer with the PIWIS to work correctly. This means that we can no longer replace our own batteries. Quotegrant But i always change at roughly 1/2 the manufacturer's spec. As a bud who formulates oil for a mahjor reminds everyone who will (or wont) listen, "everyone's driving qualifies as severe service". Ive kept cars for up to 300k. I have never had a lubrication related failure, or even any significant wear, really. For my track driven cars i cut even the shortened interval (typically toby gedwin - Main Forum
QuoteGuenter in Ontario Is the filter on the 981 in a different position or covered up that makes it more difficult to change than on previous generations? Generally the same position. 987.2 sits higher up than 986, so it is harder to reach. 981 is same as 987.2 position wise, but the frame is closer to the canister, making it more difficult to finagle it out and dumps oil all over.by gedwin - Main Forum
This is an interesting subject. I have never changed my oil without changing the filter, but always noticed that some manuals state filter changes every second time. I always halve the intervals, and since it is kind of a pain to change the filter on the Boxster, particularly the 981, I start to wonder if it would be fine changing the oil every 5k, and the filter every 10k. This would still be haby gedwin - Main Forum
Can't remember which but I believe the 9A1 has 3 or 5 oil pumps. There is at least 1 that is electric. I had one replaced under warranty on my 3.4L 987.2 because it was making noise. I believe the multiple pumps was it response to past oil starvation problems. There is at least some pressure response based on demand/need and not just RPM, but I don't know if all of the pumps respond based on theby gedwin - Main Forum
QuoteGuenter in Ontario Quotegedwin Also, using PDK in manual mode, you still have to choose the gear, and initiate the shift at the right time. Only thing removed is the manual activation of the clutch and it's timing. So some of the interaction is removed, but you still must apply some skill. If you have PDK, why would you want to use it in manual mode? You've paid $4000 for this option, why nby gedwin - Main Forum

My god, I feel like I'm reading my own post! I agree with you completely. I expect the dealer to return the car to me with no additional wear/damage. Unfortunately I have had several instances like this. They have always repaired the damage, but there are times, upon repairing it, they caused additional damage, requiring additional repair. I wish I were the kind of person that didn't sweat this sby gedwin - Main Forum
I have used the protectant without the cleaner to good effect. I wash the car every week, hosing off the roof. I only apply soap to the roof once a month, and at that I use the Zymol car wash that I am washing the rest of the car with. This has worked fine with 3 boxsters, and never had fabric problems. However, they were all black cars, and I wouldn't spray the Raggtop protectant without coveriby gedwin - Main Forum

I went with this, but ordered an optional swivel that allows the plate to hug the bumper better. I couldn't be happier with it. Rock solid, and it spins off quickly for cleaning. Very well made.by gedwin - Main Forum

My one and only car is my 2010 Boxster S, now with 20000 miles, daily driver 365 days/year, all weather conditions. I live is NJ. My previous daily driver was my 2001 Boxster, traded with 130000 miles, also 365 days/year, all weather conditions. I change out the tires/wheels for winter, and I'm good to go. But I must say that I have more confidence in the new car's stability in bad weather, thankby gedwin - Main Forum
