Much-loved Euro Imports has changed ownership. Anyone have experience with the new owners, Ben Nielson group, or can recommend an alternative for Porsche and, especially, BMW??by JackintheBoxster - Main Forum
Good news if you ask me:by JackintheBoxster - Main Forum
I must say, that in the year and a half since I sold my Boxster because the SECOND engine needed replacing and I wasn't going to make that investment again, I have mixed feelings about the car. There is no question that it is the best driving experience I've ever had, and certainly a pure sports-car experience. Nevertheless, with certified car prices approaching $50,000, I'm not sure its worthby JackintheBoxster - Main Forum
Hate to say it, but my mechanic, who is very good, only does German cars, replaced the engine on this one, and has kept our BMW 3 series alive for well over 200K is advising me away from replacing this with another Porsche. He says they look great and are hot, but that repairs are too frequent and expensive compared to BMWs and Mercedes. We'll see, I have some time before I can afford to replacby JackintheBoxster - Main Forum
We'll see. I miss my Boxster, but I also miss the idea of an almost affordable Porsche; Porsche seems less interested in the low end of the spectrum than they were. I've got my eye out for the new Z5.by JackintheBoxster - Main Forum

Has anyone on the board had experience with the Mercedes SLK? I see older models are still available with a manual transmission.by JackintheBoxster - Main Forum
Yes. However, I got 13 years out of this car and 110K miles on top of the first owner's mileage, so I'm not dissatsified.by JackintheBoxster - Main Forum
Let my 986 go today. Will buy another, or another German sports car when I can -- a friend is pushing the Mercedes (? I don't know anything about their models). Have been looking at prices at Carmax--any thoughts on how they are to buy from?by JackintheBoxster - Main Forum
Have been very slowly leaking coolant on my '01 base, trusted indy mechanic found nothing with pressure test, but did find coolant at the triangular point where the exhaust manifold meets the exhaust system (does this sound right?), is not sure what it is although he suspects this could indicate a very serious problem. Any thoughts? Thanks.by JackintheBoxster - Main Forum
There seems to be a consensus among reviewers, thankfully including the relatively few written by reporters who can put a sentence together and are not just copying from what is already out there, that the 718 is a remarkably good car, better than the competition, other than the sound. The latest I've seen is this one, comparing it to the Jaguar F-Type (really? you guys think this is the moderniby JackintheBoxster - Main Forum

I had an illuminating experience yesterday relating to the Porsche wave. I left my office in Alexandria, Va., and was driving through a somewhat transitional neighborhood and saw an absolutely beautiful 1986 red 911 that I've seen in the neighborhood before. As the guy passed me, he not only waved back but slowed, and we talked as the light turned red and he told me about his car and invited meby JackintheBoxster - Main Forum
I wonder whether any sports car will ever have that small, lithe feeling that they did in the postwar (and inter-war, for that matter) period did.by JackintheBoxster - Main Forum
I'm a little surprised it's still around, although maybe they're selling it on commission or something and don't need to lower the price.by JackintheBoxster - Main Forum
Interestingly a local Porsche dealership has had a 1995 993 in its showroom for quite a while. I saw it when I was over getting a new key and, at least superficially, it looked to be in pretty good shape. I would have thought it would be gone by now.by JackintheBoxster - Main Forum
Waiting to see how the car shakes out in the longer term, but just watched a video on the Abarth version. This is what Porsche should be building; car looks really nice, really driveable. Not clear if it has much storage space or would be good for five-hour drives. But it SOUNDS GREAT WHEN YOU START THE ENGINE.by JackintheBoxster - Main Forum
I had no idea until I saw one in a mall yesterday that Fiat is resurrecting its 124 Spider as a modification of the Miata MX-5. Just a quick check of the initial reviews seem pretty promising for this car, combining Japanese reliability with some Italian style is a good idea. One of the biggest problems of the Miata from my point of view is its lack of luggage space and its uncomfortable ride fby JackintheBoxster - Main Forum
in the difference between the two; I hope to be able to trade in my '01 986 in 2017 or '18, probably for an off-lease 981.by JackintheBoxster - Main Forum
the picture at the end is the best picture of a 718 Boxster I've seen yet:by JackintheBoxster - Main Forum
Yes, the tie-up with Toyota seems real. We have a BMW 3 series with 250K on it, which still drives like a dream. I'd consider a Z-5 if it were better than the Z-3 or -4.by JackintheBoxster - Main Forum
Has anyone done any real reading on the prospective BMW Z-5? I ask because I'm struck that there is no real competition for the Boxster in terms of a relatively inexpensive two-seater around today (a niche that was full of cars in decades past). The new 'Vette, really nice though it is, is more a 911 competitor and a different kind of car, in any case; the MX-5 has a lot going for it, but doesnby JackintheBoxster - Main Forum
