While I was waiting for my car to be delivered I had some time to look at videos on the internet and there are a few taken from the passenger seat of a 718 Boxster on the autobahn which actually show the 170 claimed by Porsche. When I drove my 210 Boxster home from Arizona I found several roads that were suitable. One that was my favorite was a 2 lane road on an indian reservation. It's been a long time but enough has transpired that an update is in order. I'm not sure how to change my author name, but I used to post under SteveJ. Anyway, I have no complaints with the Cayman so I will summarize a couple of things. The test in the latest Panorama is accurate but I do dsagree with one point of their evaluation. they complain that the gearing is too tall and makes smooth sby SteveJ (2010 987 base, manual trans) - Main Forum
One thing to do while waiting for the miles to build is to find a stretch of road that is not too smooth and try various combinations of sport, normal, and sport plus all with and without PASM. Enjoy the new car. Steveby SteveJ (2010 987 base, manual trans) - Main Forum
This is a great Porsche to own if you can find one. The sound is fine if you keep it above 3000 RPM. No turbo lag, again if you keep it above 3000 RPM. I am still in the "running-in" mode until 2000 miles are on the clock, so it will be awhile before I can give a more complete evaluation. I do like the PASM. With a little care, the lower ground clearance has been no problem. I haven't seenby SteveJ (2010 987 base, manual trans) - Main Forum
I believe you can get into the car using the key to open the driver's door and then use the cigarette lighter socket to open the front trunk. You would need an adapter between the lighter socket and the battery. This should not be used to start the car, just for access to the front trunk.by SteveJ (2010 987 base, manual trans) - Main Forum
Thanks for the info. I have driven that road twice, once in a new 220SE Mercedes and again in a new 280SE Mercedes, but I did not know the historical significance. Steveby SteveJ (2010 987 base, manual trans) - Main Forum
I used the socket in the footwell of my 2021 Cayman T to plug in the Porsche battery maintainer. It works fine although there is one trick the salesman warned me about. The car should be running before the maintainer is plugged in. Steveby SteveJ (2010 987 base, manual trans) - Main Forum
My own experience is a useful data point. My wife told me last fall that she was interested in a newer Boxster. After looking for several months I became discouraged. At that point there was a link on a post here to the C&D test of the 718 Cayman T. I arranged an appointment with the local Porsche dealer and found out that if I wanted a new Cayman the only option was a delivery in Februarby SteveJ (2010 987 base, manual trans) - Main Forum
Then, there are the "cheater" manuals which allow automatic rev matching on downshift. I have one of those, brand new Cayman T sitting in the garage waiting for the weather to change.by SteveJ (2010 987 base, manual trans) - Main Forum

I think I may have the issue solved.by SteveJ (2010 987 base, manual trans) - Main Forum
I believe the picture came through. The only options were the paint and the seats. The included options on the 718 Cayman T are extensive and all performance related. I look forward to developing new skills to keep the RPM between 3000 and 4000 for the next 2000 miles. The break-in instructions in the owner's manual are very specific. There are several videos of interest on UTube. Just searby SteveJ (2010 987 base, manual trans) - Main Forum

Well, I will provide pictures when the car is out of my garage. The trip across the ocean left the Cayman just like new. Right now I'm waiting for the snow/road salt to disappear. The dealer arranged for transportation in an enclosed trailer right from the showroom to my garage. The car is beautiful and the silver paint has a depth that doesn't show up in photographs. Here is a picture of the new addition. I hope this works - dealer provided the picture and I had to convert jpg to pdf. Steveby SteveJ (2010 987 base, manual trans) - Main Forum
I had a shift cable break at around 20K miles that was luckily covered under the 4 year factory warranty. I had never heard of that when it happened to me.by SteveJ (2010 987 base, manual trans) - Main Forum
Still learning about the 718 Cayman T, but the manual is not a "pure" manual transmission. There is the option of automatic rev matching on downshifts so that smooth downshifts can be effortlessly made.by SteveJ (2010 987 base, manual trans) - Main Forum
You heard it here first! The article is not available on the C&D website and it was not in the print edition. Broken embargo? Marketing experiment? Anyway, I contacted the dealer from the Porsche configurator and I recently learned that they have the allocation for my order of a 2021 718 Cayman T and they took my deposit so I'm good to go. I lucked out on timing. We just had 8 inches of snow yesterday. The dealer let us have a short test drive in a Cayman with PDK, very structured, following another sales person in a Cayenne. I was actually the passenger because I wanted my wife to drive.by SteveJ (2010 987 base, manual trans) - Main Forum
The wait depends on dealer allocation. The dealer said I would get delivery in February but they had just one allocation. The salesman said that production levels are down because of Covid. I frankly hope there is some delay because the weather is generally not good here in the Minneapolis area in February. The dealer said they would deliver the car to my home if necessary. I just ordered a 2021 718 Cayman T a couple of days ago. No options except GT Silver Metallic paint and the 18 way Adaptive Sports Seats. The seats are necessary for the lower back issue I have. I never thought I would order a new Porsche but this was too good to pass up. It's as if Porsche read my mind when they put this package together. 6 speed manual, of course. Frankly, I'm still walkiby SteveJ (2010 987 base, manual trans) - Main Forum

I am looking at a possible purchase of a 2017 Boxster S that has Xpel protection over the entire car. Any comments would be appreciated.by SteveJ (2010 987 base, manual trans) - Main Forum
I will be looking at newer Boxsters. I am thinking a 2015 or 2016 would be something I would be interested in, and I wonder if this issue has been corrected for MY 2015 and 2016.by SteveJ (2010 987 base, manual trans) - Main Forum
So a couple of days ago I couldn't find the second key to the Boxster. It was no big deal because my wife had both keys. I told her I was upset because replacing a lost key could be around $300 as a guess. Was I far off? I also went into my rant about how we have a very limited production car and the rules were different than for a normal car. I said that I guessed that the security systemsby SteveJ (2010 987 base, manual trans) - Main Forum
Sounds like a possibility. Very similar to my car. Here is where secondary factors come into play. Single owner? Serviced by a Porsche dealer? Always garaged? Stored winters? I have some back problems so I needed the more expensive adjustable seats. BTW I love the car. Good luck. Steveby SteveJ (2010 987 base, manual trans) - Main Forum
I found out that insurance treats claims differently when a collision with an animal is involved when I had to claim for a bit of minor damage to our Corvette when we hit a wolf on the way home from Elkhart Lake a couple of years ago. Basically, it doesn't count as an accident.by SteveJ (2010 987 base, manual trans) - Main Forum

Keep on the lookout for a special situation. These cars are very low volume vehicles and the rules need to be modified to take that into account. Decide if you are looking for a manual or PDK and use that as a filter for your search. In my own case, I found the Boxster I was looking for and bought it sight unseen. It was a car coming off lease and I bought it before it was turned in to the deby SteveJ (2010 987 base, manual trans) - Main Forum
