I did what you did to my '98 Boxster when it had 40,000 miles on it. I went through 2 MAF's! I was told that the K&N will not harm the MAF. I put the paper filter back in and do not modify anything regarding the motor. I now have over 180,000 and have not had any motor related issues since then! I suggest that you spend your energies modifying the suspension and tires, etc for any performaby Sheriff John - Main Forum
To have the car, the cash not to care, the time on my hands to think of a stunt like this and the inclination to actually do it.....I'm Jeleous! Seriously!by Sheriff John - Main Forum
wife wants me to trade in the porsche for a small SUV or jeep. Lots of good arguments in favor of doing so, the motor home being one and the old bod isn't accommodating ! (played too hard when young! ) Dropping in the porsche to get in, falling out to get out. I think I just need to retire the porsche as a garage queen and pick up a SUV for a daily driver. Hard to imagine not driving it every dby Sheriff John - Main Forum
I always see a jeep being towed behind someone's motor home. Has anyone done this? Probably should use a dolly. thx SJby Sheriff John - Main Forum

Life is short. Experience something different. I have a 986 and a 996. Same but different! I agree with most of Mark W's comments. If I trade (up?) I may do the "pepper" or the panamerica with paddle shifters!by Sheriff John - Main Forum

At first, I thought I bought some old batteries. It's although I've got a short and it's draining the battery in a few days. However, now and then, the fob's led is bright and it works! But for only one time. Is the battery not making contact well? This is the first time I've heard of this. Any ideas? Thanks SJby Sheriff John - Main Forum
Then you have the "Heat Shield Rattle" in the back, Stay on fast roads and avoid parking lots and your problem is solved. The technical discussion here is accurate. Must do a alignment after replacing part. Creak comes back way too soon. I once tried a spray lubricant, that just made a mess SJby Sheriff John - Main Forum
I was in Holland last year and couldn't get down to the Museum, so these Photos are the next best thing. Did you noticed the lighting? You could tell that they Porsche spent a lot of time planning the lighting so even snapshots look professionally done! Impressive. Not to say that you are not anything less than a professional! I only Considered LN at a material level. At that price it should be a great bearing. I think the IMS issue is fear mongering at its finest. Mostly by discussion boards. This board excluded the local shops in the so cal area has joined the band wagon as well. After buying a 996, I had convinced myself that my car was a time bomb and a local shop wanted me to do a preventative clutch job, tearby Sheriff John - Main Forum
Don't know the $ difference on stock vs LN. I'd go with the aftermarket bearing if $ is not a factor, no first hand info but I did my homework and talked with a few shops. One swap out should be enough I've yet to do a clutch job and NOT replaced the flywheel! (1998 Boxster) there is no resurfacing in my humble opinion! It pretty much self distrucks! It's too bad, it's a expensive part SJby Sheriff John - Main Forum
In the past, the "hat" portion of the rotor wasn't painted and it rusted a little, but I've heard that they come Painted now. Check out AutohausAZ for some good prices SJby Sheriff John - Main Forum
I drove way too long on a bad motor mount and said the exact same thing you did! Wow, why did I wait so long?? Ha, ha SJby Sheriff John - Main Forum
Photo taken in Brett's Garage....no sign of his "great pumpkin 911" however the 98 is in the hands of my stepson now. The apartment complex does not allow tenants to wash cars on property so he does what he can. The tradition has been handed down! current ride, 2002 base 996. Artic Silver with Metropol Blue interior. I try to keep this car very monocrome looking. replaced the hood badge witby Sheriff John - Main Forum
That's what I did when I moved from San Diego to Orange County (south of LA). I called the local shop and they gave me the number of a smog shop that does all of their testing. The smog shop worked out well! good luck SJby Sheriff John - Main Forum
The "rush" that these guys get must be a wonderful drug! I can understand why they do it. Fortunately, I get a big enough rush just climbing out of bed each day so I don't have the need to sky dive, mountain climb, etc.by Sheriff John - Main Forum
One of my "hinges" don't work. It's probably a cable, so if you have anything from that assembly, that would be cool. Jcwencel@gmail. Comby Sheriff John - Main Forum
Any suggestions on what to look for, or should I pull the panel for a look? '98 Boxster Thx sjby Sheriff John - Main Forum
Just as a regular rule, you should know your radio code. When you change your battery or disconnect it, you will need your code to re-activate the radio. Any dealer and/or indy that works on Porsches will know how to get the code. I never use those radio keys. I must be all thumbs, but I tend to cut up my fingers using them and/or can't get them to work. What I do is use my wife's butter kniby Sheriff John - Main Forum
Well, my son has the boxster now, but I repair the Boxster...go figure. There are 170 k miles on the Boxster and 53k miles on the 996 I don't play golf, so can't help with your club issue. I owned the Boxster for 11 years and put 150k miles on the car. I loved my Boxster, I don't love my 996. However, The 996 is more prestigious, has more power and I think looks better. The 996 goes fasterby Sheriff John - Main Forum
I'll do the alcohol trick and see what happens, then I'll go from there. Yeah, I don't think an aftermarket alarm will do the trick. I've got a few car covers and bra's that I'll put up for sale on Craig's list and maybe sell my short shift. I'll see what my son can come up with and maybe it will take the sting out of repairing this thing. Repairing the Boxster on a kid's budget is throwing mby Sheriff John - Main Forum
Hi all, My immobilizer has been pretty trashed for a few years now. The car is now my son's and we are talking budget! With 170,000 miles on it, I couldn't sell it for much and the poor kid's Civic had over 330k when it died. So obviously, he loves it, but it's tough for him to keep it running while his attention and $$ goes to schooling. I'm setting the stage here.... OK, the immobilizer hby Sheriff John - Main Forum
He turned into my lane with his folks SUV and rubbed his tire down the entire length of my 996. He admitted his mistake. No witnesses. When I got home, his folks called the insurance company claiming that I turned into the boy. His word vs my word. That's the new morality these days. You are being stupid if you go noble and do the right thing. No witness, no police, deny it. SJby Sheriff John - Main Forum
For the past few months, wal-mart doesn't have it in this area as well. I was told that it's being discontinued. I wish they start carrying 0w-40 in large jugs. Put they do have10w-40 in large jugs. What doe you all think about using that weight oil for us "warmer climate" folks? sJby Sheriff John - Main Forum
But I haven't used factory pads in a while either. I can't say if pins mean that they are factory. If and when I can get the boy over, I'll post "the word" on these pads!by Sheriff John - Main Forum
the numbers are partially worn off. Nothing is coming up. They are aftermarket pads. I'll just have to get the "boy' to come over. I know, the front and backs are very similar. thx, SJby Sheriff John - Main Forum
Thought I'd put some "Bling" in my 996. Aritic Silver to match the exterior and to set off my metrolpol blue interior. I was considering the Aluminum look to match the dash stripe and trim rings, but after some advice from Eric and much waffling back and forth (I'm a engineer) I went for the artic silver. I'm excited! I know that I don't need to say this, but will anyway. The quality of Eric'by Sheriff John - Main Forum
