Before you go to a lot of trouble, make sure your battery is 100% healthy and charged. I had mysterious dash light issues in my 986 and it was just a slightly old, bad or undercharged battery. I charged it with a battery maintainer and it went away. It came back a few months later even though I kept it on a charger when not driving. I replaced the battery and had no more issues. Good luck. newtby newt - Main Forum
when the 718 gets WORSE gas mileage than the 981? My 2015 Cayman GTS is advertised to get 22/31 mpg (EPA) and that's about what I get. A 981 S is about the same (depending on transmission of course). The 718 S is advertised to get 22/29 mpg EPA with PDK. The results are similar for the base model, so if the gas mileage is about 1 mpg WORSE, why build the 4 cylinder turbo?by newt - Main Forum
Thanks guys for the help. Grant, I was just seeking to understand brakes pads and relative performance better, I really didn't have issues with yellows all the way around, in fact, it worked really well for me. I was just exploring alternatives and saw that a fair number of people use blacks on the rear and I was wondering why. I'm getting ready to buy pads for my 981 GTS and wanted to make sureby newt - Main Forum
I've used Pagid Yellow (RS-29) front and back in my 986S with great result. They are significantly better than OEM for track use. I noticed on here and other forums that some people use Pagid yellow in the front and Pagid black (RS -14) in the rear. How does this change the braking performance? I now have a 981 Cayman GTS but the brake system and weight of the vehicle is very close to the 986S soby newt - Main Forum
Replace both horns, they are low and can collect water and fail. I had one go bad on my 2001S and it would not pass state inspection with only 1 horn. The parts are $11 each and easy to replace once the bumper is off (10 minutes). FYI: there are two different tones, you need one of each.by newt - Main Forum
I get a whine sometimes that increases with engine speed, but it is coming from the passenger seat....by newt - Main Forum
I have it on my Cayman GTS and I love it! On a long trip you can turn it down, and there is no droning. Then, whenever your want to hear some "Symphony in Flat 6" as Guenter calls it, all you have to do is push the button. Its expensive, but you get the best of both worlds.by newt - Main Forum
Looks like a great time Gary! That Speed Yellow Boxster with the BK roll bar extension used to be mine. I just sold it in December and the guy went to Werks with it. I'm glad he is enjoying it as much as I did....Picking up a Cayman GTS in FL next week and going to meet Pedro (again). Maybe take it next year....newtby newt - Main Forum
After 10 delightful years of Boxster ownership, I am now Porsche-less. I sold my 2001 Speed Yellow S last week. I got all choked up when Lee drove off with my car but it was time..... I had a lot of fun with that car: 8-9 DE's at several different tracks, autocrosses, mountain runs, 1 BRBS (wish I could have done more but work prevented it), wine country trips with the wifey, top down 75 degree dby newt - Main Forum
He's a phenominal coach and knows VIR like the back of his hand. I rode with him one time 3-4 years ago and was amazed. Then, last month I had him for 3 days as my instructor (I'm still in Blue) and did 1 day on the north course and 2 days on the south course. Learned sooo much from him. He had just spent several days teaching VIR to a pro driver who came in town to run in the IMSA Sports Car racby newt - Main Forum
Was that Bill Foster? He is an awesome coach...by newt - Main Forum
Nice driving. Very smooth up the climbing esses, South Bend is such a hoot, it never looks as freaky on video as it feels in the car...good stuffby newt - Main Forum
Perry: I will be selling my 2001 S in November. It is speed yellow with black interior and top. Yellow roll hoops, yellow center console, yellow seat belts. It has PSM and18 inch Sport Design 10 spoke wheels, air deflector between roll hoops, it is desnorkled and has Fabspeed secondary CAT delete pipe for a bit more sound (it has stock muffler), original CATs will be included, did the "bent piby newt - Cars for Sale
Thanks guys for the responses. I think I will drive around here carefully a bit and do some preliminary bedding to check them out to make sure they are good for the road trip. There are some country roads nearby where I can do the bedding (some of it) safely. Can't wait to see how they work. Thanks for the advice, Newtby newt - Main Forum
I will be putting Pagid Yellows on my 986S next week in preparation for 3 days at VIR. This will be my first DE with other than OEM pads, I will be using existing OEM drilled and slotted rotors. Do I need to follow Pagid's very specific bedding instructions? A very respected and experienced track guy here told me not to worry about it, he said just drive it to VIR and they will be bedded. Grant : when will you be at VIR? I am scheduled to go Labor day weekend (3 days on the full course) and 3 weeks later when our local PCA chapter (First Settlers) is hosting an event SEP 16, 17 and 18. This event is one day on the north course and 2 days on the south course. Maybe I'll see you at one of these. Newtby newt - Main Forum

Nice driving Harvey and Grant!, very smooth....I'm heading to VIR this weekend and will try to emulate your smooth driving....can't wait! I feel your pain with the high HP blowby, I will be the slowest car in my group this weekend, pretty much all the others are Z06s, Z07s, GT3s, 911 Turbos, M3s, and late model Caymen and 911s....nothing you can do sometimes but it fun staying with them in the cuby newt - Main Forum

Anybody know a good honest mechanic for this? I could go to dealer but prefer a independent....Much appreciated.by newt - Main Forum
My local performance shop (Race Werks in Virginia Beach) recommended PFC 08's for track use in my 986 Boxster S. He did not say they are the only way to go, but apparently they are well liked here in VB....by newt - Main Forum
