The replacement door lock arrived today. Not genuine Porsche but it looks substantial. I'm searching for a decent article on how to swop the lock mech. Anything?by marty - Main Forum
Hi Pedro, I have adjusted both cable tensioners by 5 turns. The roof stops just short of touching the back of the 'screen now. Will be driving later so fingers crossed! Thanks for the info. Nothing about it in my Bentley manual...by marty - Main Forum
It is, yes. It hadn't used to, and when you un latched it, it used to spring open slightly.by marty - Main Forum
With the roof locked if you hit the underside of the latch with your hand, the lever part moves a bit and clunks. Would tensioning the soft top stop this? If so, where do I adjust it?by marty - Main Forum
The roof latch on my boxster has started clucking when I drive over a sharp pot hole. Is it possible to tighten the latch grip?by marty - Main Forum
Guess what? It's playing up again... This morning I pressed the boot release fob button, the boot popped open with two beeps. Inside the car the red locking light was already on, and pressing to turn it off just got two beeps. At work the doors locked perfectly.by marty - Main Forum
Hi Pedro, I took it to a tech. today and it refused to act up..! His Porsche computer couldn't detect anything wrong, as the car seemed ok. He spray lubed the door locks saying it could just be one (prob drivers side) sticking. All seems well now so all I can do is keep an eye on it. Oh, the footwell is bone dry under the seat.by marty - Main Forum
Hi Marc, thanks a million for your advice, it's much appreciated. Here is a better description of the symptoms: When I press the key fob to un-lock - it opens OK but then gives two beeps. Inside the car when I press the central locking switch - I hear a protracted mechanical actuation of the door locks, in both doors. If I press the central locking to turn it off - I get two beeps and the litby marty - Main Forum
When I open my door at the end of a journey, the alarm beeps twice. Same sound as when you try to lock with a lid open. An ideas please?by marty - Main Forum
I love it Pedro! Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year to you and all on your board.by marty - Main Forum
Durr... Should have mentioned it's an Air Con coolant pipe - sorry.by marty - Main Forum
I have a small coolant leak at a rigid pipe joint under the RH sill, near the rear wheel arch. It's the larger diameter tube of the two. When you move the pipe at the joint you can see the leak. Is it just a new 'O ring to fix, or more complicated?by marty - Main Forum
I've made the re-set and it works as before. However, half way up it makes a slight noise, like it's sticking or something is catching. Do I aim my spanners at the motor, or the glass lift mechanism...?by marty - Main Forum
Thanks for the directions, I'll give it a go later.by marty - Main Forum
Sometimes when I use the one press and release method to completly raise my drivers side window, it moves up approx half way, then stops and drops a touch. If I press and hold the button down this never happens. What's likely to have gone bad?by marty - Main Forum
Seasonal greetings to Pedro and everyone on the board! My 1999 Box' seems a bit noisy over small bumps. I replaced the tie rod ends last year. I replaced all four drop links and anti roll bushes back in 2007. Since then I've only done 22,350 miles, although that's on poor quality UK roads. I don't drive it hard into corners etc. What sort of mileage should these parts reasonably last for?by marty - Main Forum
Thanks for all the sugestions, here is what I discovered when I got the spanners out: Tracking was still spot on. Moving the steering wheel one spline took it too far the other way - arrgh! I adjusted each trackrod end by one turn in opp. directions and things are nice and level again. I'd made the mistake of re connecting the battery with the air-bag out, so I had the warning light on. My lby marty - Main Forum
Any idea how many splines on the steering column, to work out the angle per spline?by marty - Main Forum
Thanks for the replies. It's not inconceivable that the tire fitter tweaked a track rod end, but I was in a glass fronted office while he worked so he'd have to be a crafty fox... Pressures are spot on. Just to clarify things, the car runs dead straight with hands off the wheel. It does not pull to either side. However where the wheel was level before, it now has approx 5 to 10 degrees of tuby marty - Main Forum
I replaced both front Goodyear Eagles with un directional cheaper ones last week. Now the car still tracks straight, but the steering wheel is about 5deg off level... What's going on here!by marty - Main Forum
A very happy Christmas to you Pedro and everyone else on the board. From Marty over in the UK. Thanks to all who have given me sound advice with the various woes on my '99 Box. in 2014.by marty - Main Forum
Turned out the hinged link on the end of the cablle had siezed with rust. Just like your photo, but not quite as advanced. I cleaned it up and lubed the joint, adjusted the star wheel and cable turn buckle in the centre consul, now it works just fine. New shoes, disks and springs. Thanks for all the sound advice.by marty - Main Forum
Very good point, I'll check it out. Is it much of a job to fit new cables?by marty - Main Forum
The aluminium piece that resists rotation of the shoes is worn a bit angled. I squared it up slightly with a dremel. Also the old drum was worn more close to the open end. The cable linkage looks OK.by marty - Main Forum
Last week I had an awful graunching noise from one rear break drum. When I pulled the disk I found both springs that pull the shoes to the back plate were floating indide the drum, twisted up. I cleaned the inside of the drum with my Dremel, fitted new shoes and adjusted them to my Bentley manual. The disk is worn right to the min thickness. Having just driven the car it's done exactly the saby marty - Main Forum
I fell through a garage roof eight weeks ago and fractured my heel - big ouch! Had four nights in hospital, but luckily avoided surgery. My Boxster has sat dejectedly on the drive gathering dust and the passing interest of pigeons! Yesterday, having charged the battery I put my best foot forward and went for a spin round the block. Lord I've missed driving that car! Hearing the note change iby marty - Main Forum
Are there any tricks or tips about adjusting the hand brake on my '99 Box? Even with well bedded in shoes and a max. of 3 clicks pull the holding power on slopes is very poor.by marty - Main Forum
I had a new CR125 back in the 90s. What a weapon! I did trials comps in my youth on Ossa, Montesa, Bultaco bikes. Then I passed my road test and had CZ125, Suzuki GS600, Suzuki GSXR 750wn. That CR125 was the most loony-tunes!by marty - Main Forum
There is more to it than I realised. The last thing I want is to over stress my aging engine. Thanks to you all for your advice. I love this forum!by marty - Main Forum
