if the light comes on, i'm pretty sure it's an open in the wiring, and not a short....by Petee_C - Main Forum
I installed a new top off of Amazon back in late 2019. It was the glass window. Wasn't too bad, probably took a few days to complete, and then a gentle restretch along the sides to remove any wrinkles. I did have a bucket full of clamps from various other projects.by Petee_C - Main Forum
Yes, it's a 2001 Boxster S with the 6 speed. It's been parked in the garage over cardboard, and really only driven once or twice a week. The drip marks on the cardboard haven't really changed much over the past few months, so maybe it stopped dripping?by Petee_C - Main Forum
How often are you changing your tranny fluid? I did mine 5 yrs ago, and may do it again.... I haven't driven the Box much since then... only about 20,000km.... I did notice a bit of balking again going 2nd to 3rd, but I've only driven about 1 tank of gas so far this year....by Petee_C - Main Forum
Like a couple squirts of steam, then repeat? or a 5 second shot of steam? There are 3 areas with defects, 2 maybe nickel size, one is a line about 1/2" wide and maybe 3" long.... How much steam until I see it soften a bit? or play it by ear?by Petee_C - Main Forum
Not sure what happened, but I have a couple hard spots on the leather passenger seats on my '01 boxster... Any recommendations for conditioner? I am thinking about trying chemical guys leather conditioner since I can get it locally. I have an old bottle of Lexol leather conditoner.(brown spray bottle) The sprayer gave up the ghost long ago, I just shake it well, remove the sprayer apply itby Petee_C - Main Forum
thx. i will just monitor it....by Petee_C - Main Forum
I just did my 3y/14000km oil change on my boxster.... I did the prefill filter for the 1st time. My car has 160K km on it. I suppose it doesn't hurt. It is currently the only car left in my fleet that has the filter housing in the up orientation.by Petee_C - Main Forum
Noticed a drop or 2 of oil where I park my boxster. Just brought it out of winter storage a couple weeks ago. Did my 14K km interval oil change today and investigated. The oil leak is coming from the gear shifter seal where it enters the tranny on the passenger side (right side) Is this a common occurrence on a 22 yr old car? I believe the plan will be to monitor it. There was no noticeable oby Petee_C - Main Forum
I am also at 100K miles. Just hit 160083km after my post oil change test drive. Peter 01 black Sby Petee_C - Main Forum
Nice job ICEing the charger. I'm enjoying a 2023 BMW i4m50 after a 15 month wait. My 1st brand new car in over 20 yrs. My 986s is still in storage.by Petee_C - Main Forum
I believe I am still on the original Coolant Reservoir on my '01 Boxster S. I have owned it since June 2009. I'm thinking about doing a coolant change with one of those Air/Lift Vac systems... I've got just around 100K miles on the clock.by Petee_C - Main Forum
Anyone install a Double DIN radio in their 986 era car? I am thinking about adding one next year to my '01S. I just discovered Android Auto. Way better than finding a spot to magnetically mount my cell phone. I have installed an ATOTO unit in a my former 06 Jetta TDI, and just recently put one in my '06 Civic winter beater. These are Android based Head Units, I believe I would need someby Petee_C - Main Forum
Despite those negatives, i'm happy with the glass window roof. 1st time i've accessed the engine in 3 yrs since I've installed the new top.by Petee_C - Main Forum
Hi, I installed an aftermarket (robbins or sierra - can't remember) I had to access the top of the engine the other day to check the PS fluid... I was getting a bit of a groan doing parking lot full lock maneuvers. I ended up having to add about 1-2 oz of PS fluid to the reservoir for it to read on the cold line (engine was cold). Anyhoo... the glass window does limit access on the 99-02 modby Petee_C - Main Forum
Guenther, next time you need tires, check out either PMC or Quattro tire out of quebec.... I've been very happy with them, and then get them installed locally... IIRC, I'm near you in Waterloo region. I'm running Kumho PS31's currently on the road (now discontinued), and have a set of Toyo R1R's I believe for the track.... Though I haven't been bit by the track bug lately.by Petee_C - Main Forum
nice, I have a Pelican Catch 130HD, but no trailer hitch on the boxster... It lives on the lake in the warm months.by Petee_C - Main Forum
Well it's not dead, but it was giving me the 2 beeps when I unlock it with the key fob, and the passenger window doesn't drop automatically when I open the passenger door, or it will drop a bit and then go back up on it's own before i close the door. Back in 2011, I had fiddled with it a bit, and figured it was a cracked cold solder joint... some how I managed to nurse it along since then, buby Petee_C - Main Forum
Are we talking 60K km or miles? My 01 Boxster S is almost at 100K miles (155600 km).... I replaced a faulty AOS in 2013 at about 100K km... Still on the same coolant tank - probably original.by Petee_C - Main Forum
thx. updated forecast is 70% POP with 2-4mm of rain (that's about 3-5/32" of rain) Low tonight of 46F, high tomorrow of 48F... I'll go with the R1R's - lots of tread left.by Petee_C - Main Forum
I have some track time at a 'local' track on Thursday (oct 17th) Forecast for that day is 44F to 48F and 50% chance of precipitation... Which tires should I use on my 2001 Boxster S... Kumho ps31 - these are my everyday tires Or Toyo R1Rs - warm weather track rubber..... I swap tires at home and drive just over 1hr to the track. Going to grand bend. Any input from track gurus?by Petee_C - Main Forum
Spent some time today after church re stretching the top.... Got 99% of the slack out... Take a look here restretched roofby Petee_C - Main Forum
Oh my is it tight. I did 98% of the work solo, had my son and wife each help me for about 5 minutes to get the aluminum plates above the doors lined up. Took about 10 hrs over 3 days to complete. Probably took about 2 hrs to get the old adhesive off the rear most part of the roof. Took my 14 yr old son and I together to latch the roof shut. I have some loose bits by the sides above the dooby Petee_C - Main Forum
you'll need 2 rolls of the 3M 06384 to do the job. You will use about 1.3 rolls of it. I did not use any spray adhesive. Peterby Petee_C - Main Forum
i think the 03, 04 tops are pixie dust. Impossible to find at a decent price. I already bought the glass window fitment for the '01.by Petee_C - Main Forum
anyone here DIY top replacement on their early boxster? I bought a top from autotops direct. I am looking for recommendations on how much double sided tape to buy for the project. I will likely have to order in the 3m 06384 tape, Just was wondering 1, 2 or 3 rolls? I have a feeling it's pricey. Looking on the web, it looks like it comes in 5m or 5 yard rolls... I believe the tape is theby Petee_C - Main Forum
... check connectors for corrosion... a couple minute search indicates p1117 for porsche might be the heater portion of the sensor... that one might be thicker gauge than the signal wire... but more also point to a coolant temp sensor... I have no 1st hand experience with this problem, but being intermittent suggests wiring, ... it's not a lean code? good luck, let us know how it goes...by Petee_C - Main Forum
i use Kumho PS31's on the street and happy with them...... black, fairly quiet round, comfortable..... for an 18" tire on a 986s... ...they howl like mad on the track... I then bought a set of used track tires/rims - running toyo r1r's on those for the track..... - sticky, and track howl gone...by Petee_C - Main Forum
Is that the blue compound that dries a bit tacky and then a bit rubbery? I tried that the 1st time I swapped to and from track pads, found it stuck to the seals around the piston a bit, and then I was worried about tearing a seal..... I can live with the noise, I was just trying to figure out what it was... didn't sound like bearings, and didn't sound like a CV joint.... thanks for the resby Petee_C - Main Forum
