I am hoping to see a DIY on the Convertible Top mechanism or to hear some advice from others. MY Boxster S, MY2000, has a top problem. The motor chugs slowly, making a grinding noise, and the top stops about 15 inches from closed--and won't move further. Luckily, I was able to go back the other way and open the top fully, but I'm reluctant to begin to close it again, except, perhaps, just to raisby kentv1 - Main Forum
QuotePedro (Odessa, FL) unless you're in CA it would be way easier too remove the SAI pump and hoses and just reprogram the car to RoW specs. CA is the ONLY State that requires the SAI. Happy Boxstering, Pedro Wait! Help! I’m in Arizona and Motor Vehicle sent me home saying I wasn’t ready for inspection since my battery must have been disconnected. I'm wondering how people have liked Alcantara. Sorry, if another old topic. It is prone to being soiled and worn looking? Too hot in a hot climate?by kentv1 - Main Forum
I'm still needing some guidance here. I found a great Boxster. It's a manual and I like the idea and feel of it. I already have a MY2000 S that I'd sell. But I'm looking at a fantastic 911 S, and comparing it. It would cost $45K more. I'm having trouble with the thought that the spread is enough to fund a good part of a college education. I'm also having trouble with only having one trunk, andby kentv1 - Main Forum
After posting this and giving great thought to the matter, I found myself about to buy a 911 for quite a whack to my wallet. I backed up and reconsidered, and I still am. But in looking at Boxsters again, and considering a manual, and how much less I'd spend for such a great car.by kentv1 - Main Forum
If someone wants a higher profile tire, meaning more than the standard 35 to 40mm rise, can other tires be used, and are there more choices with a 19" rim than a 20" rim? I'm concerned about the thin, low profile tires not being as comfortable or long-lasting. thxby kentv1 - Main Forum
I'm being told that a manual is more fun and has better resale value. I'm considering a 718 Boxster or cab 911. I was leaning toward fully manual, as well, but after driving the PDK I did get some sense of a "manual" shift, and some people these days just aren't good at a fully manual shift vehicle. In addition, 95% of the new cars out there are PDK. So, I'm wondering which really would have greaby kentv1 - Main Forum
Thanks for the thoughts. I'm leaning hard toward the 718. Tight. Sporty. Two trunks. 911 seems just a bit staid.by kentv1 - Main Forum
Old topic, I know. But, I'm about to get another Porsche. I'm so drawn to another Boxster, but I've got some acquaintances saying I really need to "upgrade" to a 911. Frankly, though, I'm looking at a Boxster 718 and I'm not seeing that the greater appeal of the 911. Can I hear just a little more how people feel?by kentv1 - Main Forum
I always have trouble with ambiguity. The Bentley manual says to retract (loosen) the parking brake by prying upwards on the star fitting with a screwdriver. Does that mean my hand is moving up and star down, or that my hand is moving down while I'm spinning the star up (starting low on the star with the screwdriver). I assume the latter, but come on . . . .by kentv1 - Main Forum
Just fyi, my rotors were badly worn and my warning light came on. I used the cheaper ATE rotors and they seem great. I installed the fronts correctly, using the directional recommendation. I had 86,000 miles. I used a Stanley sliding vice clamp with the plastic covers to compress the pistons. That worked great. Porsche must deliberately have designed the brakes so folks like me could do this. Itby kentv1 - Main Forum
Is brake anti-squeal paste necessary given that the piston inserts have a sticky back surface?by kentv1 - Main Forum
OK great. Thanks--another question: Which is the left or right on that front rotor? Which way do the slotted swirls go? I'm not seeing any "markings" clarifying that issue.by kentv1 - Main Forum
I have a 2000 Boxster S. Those numbers you state are correct for the front. But for the rear, the minimum thickness given by ATE and by Pelican Parts is 22mm, not 24. Perhaps rotor specs changed after MY2000, but I'm finding that 22mm spec in a number of places. Any further light appreciated. Thanks.by kentv1 - Main Forum
My rotors on my MY00 Boxster S are a bit "ripply" which I understand is normal. The thickness measures at .985 inches. That's 25.01 mm. I can't find the spec. Can I keep them, safely, or is it time to replace them? thxby kentv1 - Main Forum
MY2000 S; 6 speed manual. I'm getting a thump sometimes on high RPM shifts from 2nd gear. Is that the engine mount? Should I just repair myself? Don't mind paying the Dealer but if it's simple I might feel wimpy.by kentv1 - Main Forum
My topic title says "manual or PDK," but I drove the PDK several times, know it's great, but still know I'll get a manual, as long as they make one and my legs work. I just like the driving experience and feel of control with a manual clutch and shift. But, knowing it's likely a worn out topic, is there a consensus of any kind when it comes to transmissions? About the Boxster. I'm looking at a 9by kentv1 - Main Forum
Thanks guys. I wonder what would cause sudden heating or cooling? I hardly ever drive the car. That said, my driver's seat adjustment mechanism shorted and blew a fuse last year and I never fixed it. Would a random short like that be a cause?by kentv1 - Main Forum
The orange LED lights for my oil gauge in the instrument cluster appear to have "exploded." What I see is a blotch of orange that I can best describe as a maple leaf design on the lens of instrument cluster. It's as if the lights sprayed out under pressure and have applied themselves to my cover lens for the speedometer, clock, etc. It appears that, maybe, the inside of the lens has diode substanby kentv1 - Main Forum
I have a rattling sound from my '00 Boxster S, almost as if the trunk panel is flopping around. I hear it, of course, over bumpy roads or asphalt cracks. It could be coming from the rear passenger tire well. Is there something back there I should check out first? If I were to guess, I'd say it's something easy, but I'm wondering about the convertible top mechanism, too, and worrying it's somethinby kentv1 - Main Forum
I'm losing fluid every five months or so. Any ideas where I'd check first for a leak? A quick look at the lines going into the calipers isn't showing anything. Thanksby kentv1 - Main Forum
I read the warnings on this Board, but just FORGOT!! I reconnected my passenger seat electrical plug while the key was in the ignition, and while the battery was connected, and now I've got that lovely AirBag light staring at me. Can I do anything short of finding a Durametric cable? I could remove the seat and start over, and this time leave the battery disconnected, but it seems from other pby kentv1 - Main Forum
Just to bring this thread along: Now that I've got my new water pump installed, and having searched everywhere, I'm concerned that I couldn't find the little chips off my old impeller. I'm curious why they didn't drop out with the coolant. I'd think that chipped impellers are common. Where do they go? They're also not in my thermostat housing. About the torque on those seven bolts, I actuallyby kentv1 - Main Forum
QuotePedro (Weston, FL) ... correct torque values, the metal gasket is all that's needed. It won't leak. Happy Boxstering, Pedro How can I possibly get a torque wrench in that space? I don't think I can fit mine on more than 2 of the seven bolts. Do you suggest using special adaptors or fittings on the wrench?by kentv1 - Main Forum
I know I'm obsessing, but no gasket sealer? I'm having trouble imagining that being ok.by kentv1 - Main Forum
I forgot to mention. My impeller is cracked and chipped, and the center pin and bearing are wobbly. I've never seen a water pump so destroyed, but this is my first Porsche. I'm convinced I got a bad pump last time from the dealer, or maybe bad installation. My first one went out after about 42,000 miles. Great cars all the same.by kentv1 - Main Forum
I have a 2000 Boxster S. This will be my third in 70K miles. Not so good. WOW, it seems that both the pump and thermostat seal up with a steel gasket and no gasket sealer or silicone. Is that correct? Also, I seem to have the bolts all mixed up. There are 5 all the same length, and two long. Those appear to be for the two sleeved fittings on the pump housing--the short little fitting sleeves oby kentv1 - Main Forum
Is that tool essential? IOW, you can't replace the coolant without it? Also, did you drain the entire system to replace that pump? Mine was replaced two years ago and here I go again. Coolant just pouring all over the place. Thanks. PS I have another post where I asked about removing the passenger seat and disconnecting that electrical plug in case you see it.by kentv1 - Main Forum
As usual, I'm stuck on the easy stuff. '00 Boxster S How on earth does that electrical plug beneath the seat come apart? I don't see any clips or release tabs. Thanks in advance. I appreciate the help.by kentv1 - Main Forum
Question: If I cancel all Codes and the CEL light goes off and stays off, will the car pass emissions control, or will cancelling the Codes create a problem in that regard. Thanks all.by kentv1 - Main Forum
