it's got the A40 on the back, thanks Grantby bb1 - Main Forum
thanks SMILIN - i noticed that too later when i read the back of the new bottles and just went ahead and bought that. Hopefully it is "accepted" by the car. I'm sure there are others that can answer on that question about the grades - I don't know about that.by bb1 - Main Forum
Hey Folks - For my 2000 Boxster, I have always been using the Mobil 1 0W-40 (5 quart bottle - just showing this link as it was all i could find that looked the same) like this -> Recently was looking to buy some more oil and noticed the label looks different now -> The one I was used to buying specifically mentions "Approved for most Mercedes-Benz, BMW, VW, Audi, & Porsche" --- butby bb1 - Main Forum
Hi folks I have a 2000 Boxster and just purchased this Porsche Battery Maintainer 958-044-901-71. I used it (successfully) to charge up a dead battery enough to get into the front hood. Since then I replaced the car's battery w/ a new one. I seldom drive the car and was going to plug in this Porsche Battery Maintainer 958-044-901-71 and use it to maintain the battery. I left it on for anby bb1 - Main Forum
Hello Mikefocke It looks like what I bought is a maintainer, not a charger. I plan to remove the battery and take it somewhere to see if they can charge it still (I don't have a charger of my own) - and if not, buy a new battery. The battery was pretty new (1yr old) but I'm not sure if it can still be charged up and used.by bb1 - Main Forum
First - thanks all for the feedback - it's been said before and all of you probably heard it - but it's appreciated Thanks to the info here I opted to try just the 12v trickle charge option first - and decided to just buy the brand name charger - so got this Porsche Battery Maintainer 958-044-901-71. Heh, what's another $200 on this car anyway - no one's counting anymore.... And it worked likeby bb1 - Main Forum
Hi Pedro - thanks for the time to answer. It would really help me if you can give a link or specific product I can go out and buy for this - I don't have one now and since this is a Porsche - everything I do to it - needs to have some caution: "feed 12 volts through the 12 volt socket. It won't pass much current, so don't try to charge it in a few minutes. Put it in trickle mode and let it charby bb1 - Main Forum
I called my Porsche dealer - and after looking it up they said some, but not all the 2000's have the thing in the fuse box by the driver's footwell that allows you to charge there enough to open the hood. Mine unfortunately is not one of these. So they said the mechanism to manually unlock the front truck is under the driver's side somewhere up under the front driver side's wheel well and/or heby bb1 - Main Forum
Hi fellow Boxster owners - I have a 2000 Porsche Boxster that I've had for nearly its whole life. Recently I got off track and didn't drive the car for too long and now the battery is dead and I can't even open the front hood (as appears to be some electronics needed for that - not just a direct cable as I would have thought before this happened). I have read online about some models having aby bb1 - Main Forum
Thanks Frogster - yeah my battery is close to 7yrs - I need to do the preventative replacement soonby bb1 - Main Forum
Hey folks - my battery in my 2000 Boxster is getting older and driving my car less due to current situation. Today I had to jump start the car. Drove it around to hopefully charge it up some. But for years I've had a Porsche "charge-o-mat" 000 043 202 56 lying around that's never been used. I am considering using it now. But there are no instructions with it. Questions 1) is this SAFE to usby bb1 - Main Forum
Thanks all - I checked the Bently manual for the fuses involved and they looked fine. Based on some of the responses here (and not too surprising for a 20 year old car), it sounds like something mechanical wore out or failed probably.....it's going to be too much for me to try and fix myself. I will just take it to my shop and see what they say. Not looking forward to paying for it though!by bb1 - Main Forum
Hello board members I have a 2000 Boxster and never have had any trouble w/ the top (though rarely used). Today while driving the car along I noticed the convertible top light on the dash was staying lit while driving......so suspected some sort of issue.....I wanted to see if the top still worked, so I put attempted to put the top down and it did work to go down (though w/ fair amt of racket).by bb1 - Main Forum
Hey folks - for a 2000 Boxster, the size of the socket to remove the lug nuts should be? I assume since Germany uses metric that it would be 19mm by standard. 3/4"=19.05mm so maybe 3/4" is used as well? Just trying to line up the right tool to take off the the wheels for first time. Thanksby bb1 - Main Forum
Hey Boxsterra - I'm looking at the diagram you posted - is part#17 or #9 what you are referring to as the "lower control arm"?by bb1 - Main Forum
Thanks Anker Hearing 3 different suggested parts here 1. sway bar drop links <- 996-343-0<69|70>-04 (these are front/back both) 2. trailing arms 3. lower control arm I dug and found some part#'s I think that match the sway bar drop links. Can yall help pleaes w/ these other 2 suggested parts? Thanksby bb1 - Main Forum
Hey Boxsterra - you have answered numerous of my posts over the years, so thanks I tried that test you suggested (on both front/back). It basically makes a bunch of whirring/creaking noises (on the way down and up both) but more or less is NOT bouncing up/down multiple times. Those noises, however, are not the complete picture I get when driving the car - i.e. when driving the car at low speedsby bb1 - Main Forum
Hey folks My 2000 Boxster w/ 80k miles I've had for a long time and as I rarely drive it, have put off getting new shocks/struts (not sure what proper name is so just list both words). The back ones are particularly bad as far as making noise (for several years), but the front ones I know have worn thru the bumper stops long ago. These are all the original ones on it now. I want to get them alby bb1 - Main Forum
Hey folks - Can you share guidance on whether the 2000 Boxster has a timing belt or chain, and when the recommended replacement interval is? I am pretty sure it has a chain but want to confirm (and not sure of how much, if ever, that needs to be serviced/replaced). Thanksby bb1 - Main Forum
Hey folks Looking at some Race Ramps for the Boxster They advertise as "Unscootable! Won't slip or slide, no matter the surface"....however, I can't find any pictures that show the bottom surface of these on the web. Can anyone share what that looks like or how well they perform in this regard? Thanksby bb1 - Main Forum
Thanks for the tips folks. I may go for that HF one if I can stomach the weight of it!by bb1 - Main Forum
Hey folks - anyone have a good recommendation for a specific floor jack for use w/ the Boxster? Want something well built, safe obviously. Thanks in advanceby bb1 - Main Forum
Hey folks The stock/original struts on my 2000 Boxster are of course black/grey-ish. 1) Is it true that any replacement strut (like from Bilstein) is going to be yellow? Or that yellow equates to some sort of "performance" (i.e. stiffer) type shock? (I actually don't want that- want the standard shock/strut - but just from my research it looks like all the yellow ones are the sportier/stiffeby bb1 - Main Forum
Hey folks - just wanting some feedback based on your experience - w/ the 986 Boxster - between the front and rear shocks/struts - which are usually the ones to go bad first?by bb1 - Main Forum
I should add - I just want to buy one and not build one - thanksby bb1 - Main Forum
Hey folks - I have some suspension noises in a 2000 Boxster that I'm trying to isolate myself. I searched online for chassis ears type equipment, but could not find any that allowed one to record the sound for playback later/separately. Has anyone found something like this? If so please share details. Thanksby bb1 - Main Forum
Thanks Bruce Yeah I saw some video of some instructions for cleaning the throttle body. Little hesitant to try it as I've never worked on the engine other than oil/filter changes. But the video sure may it seem feasible....so far my rough idle is only happening sporadically. I spoke to my Porsche dealer yesterday on this - he told me that on these older cars they usually wouldn't even update tby bb1 - Main Forum
Just read thru my "101 Projects for your Porsche Boxster" book (p.109 in the MAF replace project) - from what I read, for my car, that part# the indy used is the latest/greatest one but they also state something about "Porsche updated the sensors in the Boxster in mid-2000 and also released a new version of the DME software that is a required updated if you are going to use this new and improvedby bb1 - Main Forum
Hi Folks Few weeks back I had my car at an indy shop for CEL stuff and they replaced my MAF sensor (first time that had been done). I've noticed a few times after this an issue (never before experienced) with a rough idle (every few seconds it would be blipping up to 800rpm then back down to 600, repeat, repeat) Was in dealer for separate issue today and had asked them to check this. They coulby bb1 - Main Forum
