Sounds like you moved away from the car, rather than anything wrong with the car itself. I'm lucky enough to own three cars - MB 211 Wagon for hauling / skiing, BMW E92 for commuting, and 986 S for hooning Like my kids, they all have different personalities, and one could never replace another. YMMV.by jlegelis - Main Forum
Damn - I hope you at least get a holiday card from your dealer! Guessing you could have personally flown in Pedro, sourced all the parts from TireRack and AutohausAZ, and celebrated with a nice bottle of Scotch to boot for less than half the price. Round my area (Boston ) we are blessed with multiple highly competent independent shops so I never need to visit the $tealer except to leer at newby jlegelis - Main Forum
Exactly... 6 CDs versus potentially thousands of songs on a smart phone, or (even better) unlimited songs via Spotify streaming or similar (if your data plan can handle it). While you're at it, ditch the CD storage bin as well as the useless cupholders if you have it and replace it with proper storage binnacles and correct adapters, while moving the HVAC controls up top. We live in blessed times if you are a fan of internal combustion, either with or without forced induction. With Britain, France, and many other countries and and major carmakers vowing to ban or shift completely to zero-emissions cars by 2040 or before, it won't be long before we'll need to explain to our grand kids what a 'gas tank' was, while paying extra for insurance if I want to 'self driby jlegelis - Main Forum
Funny, the current administration pulled out of the Paris climate accord, but on the other hand the Fed's FEMA is increasing coastal flood insurance rates by 10x. Clearly one is correct, and the other isn't...by jlegelis - Main Forum
Grant - are your street number cold, and your track #'s hot? >> I run 33R/31F on the street, and very similar (hot) on the track (32/31, or 33/32).by jlegelis - Main Forum
FWIW, I clean an re-lube all seals on a yearly basis, otherwise I've found the seals on the clamshell and doors can get very squeaky on rough roads (not sure if this is a regional thing based on climate/dust/temp). I use Gummi Pflege which is available form a number of sources. - JohnL Boston '01 986Sby jlegelis - Main Forum

IMHO, for $4100 (installed) you have a world of options to choose from. Not sure how important the 'quiet' mode is to you... I have factory PSE on my '01 986 S and disconnected the valves so they are open (i.e. loud) all the time. Have you considered Fabspeed, Agency Power, etc?by jlegelis - Main Forum
Fairly glowing reviews, nice pics. I for one am still thrilled that Porsche still makes a 'real' sports car, though loving my 986 S more and more every day!by jlegelis - Main Forum

Agree with all the points above... making horsepower in Porsche non-turbo engines is not cheap. Learn to drive the car properly and you'll be 'faster' than mostly anybody out there. If he really wanted HP he shoulda gotten the 'S', which is far cheaper than 'upgrading' a base car to 'S' numbers....by jlegelis - Main Forum
Need a winter car and considering a 'lesser' BMW. Found a decent 328ix in Raleigh, but need an inspection before considering purchase. Any recommendations for dependable / reputable independents greatly appreciated! - JohnL Boston '01 986Sby jlegelis - Main Forum
Please let me know when somebody here actually drives one... but for now it's all just useless YouTube speculation and other people's reviews.by jlegelis - Main Forum
Really guys??? Must every. single. new. model Porsche be treated with such dismay? To my knowledge, nobody is making 'new' old Porsches (unless you want to pay 300k for a '911 by Singer'), so either say something nice about the new stuff, or don't buy it. Sure, complain about turbos, but likely every manufacturer Porsche must meet ever-rigorous safety, emissions & fuel economy regulationsby jlegelis - Main Forum
Here's a counterpoint: I love the Porsche flat four turbo's, the flat six turbos, the 'shooting brake', the big SUV, the little SUV, the GT4, the 911R. For g*d sakes, at least Porsche is changing and evolving and trying something different. Set the wayback machine to 1993 when Porsche was selling 14000 units world wide and on the brink of bankruptcy. I for one applaud Porsche innovation aby jlegelis - Main Forum
Apologies. 'Just sayin' that not every Boxster warrants this level of paranoia. Surely if something is wrong than fix it... but the impression given from the post was that this was preemptive maintenance for no particular reason other than an undue level of anxiety from a newbie owner brought on by reading too many 'n of 1' internet posts. Perhaps just another reason to 'drive it like you stolby jlegelis - Main Forum
Beautiful car, but just in case other newbies or Boxster wannabes are reading this thread, I wanted to parse the following comment: >> Car had extremely low miles (16,900) and obviously was rarely driven. I know that can be a "red flag", however, after purchasing the car I immediately had it transported to Pedro Bonilla (who also did a first class PPI) at TechnoLab to have some much needby jlegelis - Main Forum
I *love* that Porsche even dares to build a car like this. Even if it's just cynical marketing. Even if 99.9% of the owners can't get within 50% of the car's driving limits. Even if 99% of the cars will be garage queens or 'investments'. Even if the entire run is already sold out. Even if I can't afford one. Even if I'll never ever see one on the road. I'm just thrilled there's somebody thaby jlegelis - Main Forum

Guenter - >> I just don't think they're necessary if you have a set of good all season tires and adjust your driving to the road conditions. As I tell my friends, 'it ain that startin', it's the stoppin'. I've got some good data on this... my wife's MB E350 wagon on 'all season' Conti's might as well be a cat on a tile floor when it comes to braking performance compared to my 328xi w/by jlegelis - Main Forum
I've said if before, if you live in a northern climate, 'all season tires' are an oxymoron. Terrible in the snow, and terrible in the dry - I'm half convinced 'all season' tires are a conspiracy to convince people to trade up to 4x4/AWD SUVs rather than just get a proper set of snow tires (as I've told many a friend, 4 x 0 = 0 ) . My 'lesser' BMW 328xi (AWD) with 4 Nokian Hakkapeliittas is anby jlegelis - Main Forum
Yeah, I know, I know, third car, off the road in the winter, blah blah blah. OTOH, I like to think of it as the best 2500 miles I drive all year!by jlegelis - Main Forum
As some of you may know, for the past 5 years I've been testing my Boxster's used oil before the annual winter storage oil change. The theory has been that perhaps regular oil testing might be able to detect IMS bearing issues, or other engine issues. So far nothing to report, but happy to have the results of my annual Porsche blood test looking 'normal', and wanted to share the data in hopesby jlegelis - Main Forum
