I am a bit surprised you liked the Pirelli .. I never liked their products.... wore quickly and were noisy when they did. Michelins were always good for me.... lasted a longer time too with a proper alignment... they are my "go to" brand. Peace Bruce in Phillyby Bruce In Philly (2000 S Boxster, now '09 C2S) - Main Forum

I had a gremlin in my 2009 C2S........ the ignition switches were modified around this time so they don't work the same way as the old ones. When I turn off the car, I stopped getting the clunk... where the steering wheel lock drops.... it was intermittent, then it just stopped the clunk. Everything else seemed OK... I never tested the electrical draw but was parking my car in sub-zero weatherby Bruce In Philly (2000 S Boxster, now '09 C2S) - Main Forum
I have driven a few Mercedes and one was their Kompressor two door... can't remember their model numbers for the life of me. One thing was common to all... they plow... like big time. They are made to be comfy cars, even the sports models I drove. They are also very very expensive to fix..... while both of my observations are anecdotal, it may be worth asking around about my comments prior toby Bruce In Philly (2000 S Boxster, now '09 C2S) - Main Forum
Lubrication is not just about slipperyness.... it is also about cooling. Peace Bruce in Phillyby Bruce In Philly (2000 S Boxster, now '09 C2S) - Main Forum
I stand corrected...... assuming Jake is correct.... and at a minimum, a bazillion times more qualified than me. As a consumer of this avalanche of information and speculation over the years, I have come to a very simple (simple minded?) explanation for all of these failures... IMS being just one...... this engine was hastily designed and or testing was incomplete. Remember, Porsche was failingby Bruce In Philly (2000 S Boxster, now '09 C2S) - Main Forum
I never understood why just making the bearing bigger and or stronger solved the underlying design problem..... always sounded like kicking the can down the road. Just feed it good oil... why is this so complex? You can get flowing, pressurized oil from a number of places..... If a flow of good oil won't do the job, then there must be some unexpected forces acting on the shaft resulting in theby Bruce In Philly (2000 S Boxster, now '09 C2S) - Main Forum
If you injected pressurized oil, then you wouldn't need the sealed, ball bearing element in the first place. A bearing that uses no balls but floats on a pressurized flow of oil is called a plain bearing. That is exactly what is on the other side of the IMS and has been since Porsche started using IMSs in the 60s. While no one really knows why Porsche removed the plain bearing from one end ofby Bruce In Philly (2000 S Boxster, now '09 C2S) - Main Forum
Fantastic! I always wanted to tear into an engine.... never did. Regarding the 911 vs Boxster of that vintage.... back then the 911 owners were complaining their car was not different enough. Heck many if not most of the part numbers are 911 part numbers. Regarding engine swaps, back then there was more mystery to it. IIRC, it was considered easier to install a 911 engine in a Boxster thaby Bruce In Philly (2000 S Boxster, now '09 C2S) - Main Forum
For some reason, anti roll links and bars are always blamed and are rarely the culprit. It is usually a particular control arm in the front and another in the rear. I don't remember which in the front goes first, but in the rear, it is the lateral one.. the one that goes front to rear. The only way to know for sure is put on some chassis ears. Quotegrant there's no question that margins fall when one enters a mass market at volume. But does that dilute their profitability? Their ability to perform R&D? No, in fact it enhances it. You are correct.... however... as long as the mother ship doesn't harvest the profit. VW is in a world of hurt right now..... Said another way, snow tires are free. The cost is only in the rims and if you get them from a "take off" rim/tire shop like I do such as Sports Car Tire in WIlmington DE, or buy a set used from the Porsche boards or Craigs list, they can be inexpensive. Either way, with or without snow tires, you burn up rubber. With snows, your summers last longer..... snow tires are free. Peace Bruce in Phby Bruce In Philly (2000 S Boxster, now '09 C2S) - Main Forum
All about the tires..... I had a 2000 Boxster S as a daily driver with snows for 13 years and 197K miles, and now a 2009 C2S (997.2 911) also with snows. No issues at all in Philadelphia snow. The newer 911s are more buttuned up underneath than my older Boxster was... more of those plastic under-plates. Regarding corrosion, I had heat shields rot out.... Keep in mind, that when these engines fail, not all diagnosis are correct. When my 2nd engine failed, my indy, and experience Porsche mechanic said it was without a doubt and IMS failure. Grant pulled the IMS and it was fine. There is quite a bit of conjecture out there and the only way to know for sure what happened, is tear the engine down. The first question I would ask your friend is "howby Bruce In Philly (2000 S Boxster, now '09 C2S) - Main Forum
My 2000 Boxster S would have a rare intermittent light, then more often, then constant. Pads required replacement. I always used Porsche labeled pads. This process could go on for a month or two. Peace Bruce in Phillyby Bruce In Philly (2000 S Boxster, now '09 C2S) - Main Forum
Doesn't a misfiring engine put more un-burnt gas through the exhaust thus lessening the life of the catalytic converters? Peace Bruce in Phillyby Bruce In Philly (2000 S Boxster, now '09 C2S) - Main Forum
Quotedennisafrompa Yes I know Volvo is Chinese owned. Hi Dennis! Regarding the Chinese... Folks our age remember that China was the 2nd biggest threat to world peace behind the Soviet Union.... this was just a short time ago, and the USA and others spent massive amounts of money on hardware and strategic actions to mitigate their very real threat. They are cutting..... so why would you not have a set on hand when you did your work. If you see they are bad, now what? You are already deep into the job. What is going to tip your decision? The insulation will be cut.... just get new ones and don't worry. The big question for me was the expensive Porsche labeled parts or the cheap off-brands. Some said the less expensive ones can melt.by Bruce In Philly (2000 S Boxster, now '09 C2S) - Main Forum

You can see it on demand from Comcast. It was so so. Tough act to follow. The new Chris Evens (not Chris Harris) host is a bit to over the top and shouts. Matt LeBlanc was a nice surprise... I wanted to dislike him as I hated that insipid Friends show but Matt was very good.... He is nice solid anchor with a clever wit. Floats on a silicone like surround...... not what I understand. Windshields are part of the structural rigidity of the car as I understand it to be.... that is why it is common for a chip to grow into a crack. If you track your car, it stands to reason they twisting forces increase the loads and thus increase cracking from chips. I've had really bad experiences with Safelite. 1 - Cheap Chinese glass for these cars is now available and had been for some time. One time they used non-oem glass and I had them replace it in the 2000S. It may pass safety requirements but it distorted the field of view. 2 - Safelite said they would handle the insurance company....... then they called said I did NOT have OEM replacement coveby Bruce In Philly (2000 S Boxster, now '09 C2S) - Main Forum
Apparently, there is a difference between a true Boxer engine and a Flat engine (or Flat V). Check this out: So, is the 9A1 engine a Boxer or a Flat 6? All Porsche flat engines the same? Peace Bruce in Phillyby Bruce In Philly (2000 S Boxster, now '09 C2S) - Main Forum
Fantastic, you will see me there.... I will be the one in the red Porsche. Get there early. Regarding food, they only have crappy carni food like french fries and crap.
