I'd prefer to get a separate one, since I use this the other cars, lawn tractor and other stuff.by MikenOH - Main Forum
My Walmart special tire inflator died after many years of use and need to replace it. I would like to get something a bit quieter than the last; can anyone recommend a brand that has a decent quality 12v inflator for under $40? Related to this, it seems that some of these inflators require a 15 amp source for 12v; does anyone know what amperage is the 987 cigarette lighter rated at? Nothing inby MikenOH - Main Forum
When we got our '08' E90, we spoke with a salesman that had sold us 2 Boxsters at another dealership. We told him we were ready to buy and he quoted us $500 off on an ordered car. Another dealer in Columbus offered us nearly $2K off--sight unseen--via an email. When I mentioned the difference between the two prices to the salesman we'd known for 10 years, he said his hands were tied. The generaby MikenOH - Main Forum
Glad to hear you've got the Boxster back; hopefully, you'll be able to put some mileage on it without investing more $. Those labor rates are pretty steep; locally, I think P dealers usually charge around $130/hr and that has gone up significantly in the past 2 years. With rates as high as that, I can't help but think that dealers will see less service work on cars that are out of warranty as peby MikenOH - Main Forum
Mike: Sorry to hear of your of your Boxster sale, but can completely understand the circumstances. Hope your next one hits all the necessary buttons. Regarding the Avalon, I've never been a fan of Toyota sedans until I had a chance to spend some time in the current generation of the Avalon. I have to say, that if creature comforts, styling and reliability are the major requirements, this very wby MikenOH - Main Forum
Our '06' is 2-3mph high at 70; our '99' was +5mph. somewhat better with the newer car.by MikenOH - Main Forum
Yep, the 987 models have air filters that are significantly larger in surface area than the 986. The same air filter is used on both the 2.7L and 3.4L models, and --IIRC--along with the same TB and muffler system. You would think that if this air filter is adequate to handle the needs of the 3.4L motor, that it would be even more so in the 2.7L motor, making the case for less restrictive air fiby MikenOH - Main Forum
Our 07 RAV 4 owners manual similarly makes no reference to brake fluid changes. I asked about this the last time I had the oil changed and they said it typically isn't done until a brake job (pads and rotors) is done. At 55K and still have about 1/3 of the pads left, I'll probably have this done at the next oil change just on principle. Wed don't use the brakes a lot due to mostly highway drivingby MikenOH - Main Forum
I've heard from a number of people with Boxsters that have gone with a more aggressive pad on the rear. Have you experienced any downside to this setup?by MikenOH - Main Forum
I've had Carbotech XP8's on for the past two years and they are good pads. They wear well--dependent on your use and the track--, can take the heat and leave a dust that is easily cleaned (unlike a few others). When I was getting the car ready for VIR last year, I asked Mike Puskar @ Carbotech if I needed to go up to the Xp10's and he thought not. Give him a call or email and he'll go through itby MikenOH - Main Forum
Looks like this is driven by the Green party's control over the legislature and the stated goal is to reduce CO2 emissions. Made me wonder if this was why Porsche has expended so much energy in Hybrid/electric vehicles. Can't imagine them driving 74mph on the highways were they once had no limits.by MikenOH - Main Forum
Thanks Marc.by MikenOH - Main Forum
Our 06 base is listed at 3549 GVWR, which IIRC includes the curb and passenger/cargo weights. Does anyone know what the curb weight should be? thanks.by MikenOH - Main Forum
Have had these on a 987 for 3 years; very similar to the PS2. TR currently has $80 rebate on these.by MikenOH - Main Forum
Sounds like a plan; any other dealers available in your area? Based on his comments, you might want to consider taking the car to another dealer when service is required--he didn't sound very customer oriented. Last, if there is another Porsche dealer in the area, discuss the issue with them over the phone to make sure you know how they treat old TSB's on cars out of warranty. Best of luck withby MikenOH - Main Forum
Wow--timing is everything. A video showing you replacing your broken motor sounds like an excellent use of this camera. That would then be followed with track video once the car is back up and running. Best of luck with getting back on the road.by MikenOH - Main Forum
thanks for the tip; I did look all his posts on this forum and he did talk about the LN mods. Just wanted to be sure I was clear on what he actually did add to the car vs. what he was thinking about doing.by MikenOH - Main Forum
on this motor--where it was sourced from, miles, mods put into it, etc.. I know you posted this earlier but it's been a while since your original post. thanks.by MikenOH - Main Forum

here are a few reviews:by MikenOH - Main Forum
Like you I've owned a 99 model and currently own an 06. The '99' ran like a clock and was traded on the 06. The 06 has 30K on it, 10K of which were probably at the track. No issues to this point save a noisy lifter last year. I'm impressed that you opted to get another Boxster after the failed motor; that would put off a lot of buyers. Was it the slipped sleeve issue? Anyway, like you, I've spby MikenOH - Main Forum
Quotebgale (Montrose,CO) Have done many auto-x with light poles in the lot -- missed them all +1 but the courses I've driven on with light poles had a lot fewer lights on it compared to this tree laden one. Not a great site for a auto-x course.by MikenOH - Main Forum
Looks like a nice, compact unit that takes up little room in the trunk. What's the capacity and price of the unit? How much time to do the installation?by MikenOH - Main Forum
Interesting video. Any idea of what year and mileages of the cars those bearings came out of? Was the last bearing the MY2006 IMS design (Bigger bearing/larger shaft)? It looked a bit larger than the previous two, but it could have been the angle he held it.by MikenOH - Main Forum
the 05 models had an issue with the side mirrors that produced the whistle at speed and was-- IIRC--fixed under a TSB early on. Check with longislander1 on this--he has an 05S also.by MikenOH - Main Forum
Grant: Thanks-I've been looking for the 10W-40 for awhile and could never find it locally. Regarding the Syntec, have you found any data on how the 2 oils stack up under comparable testing? I've never been able to find data on the specifics on one of them--can't remember which.by MikenOH - Main Forum
+1 on 3 day DE's; here in OH there's a good chance of getting rain on any particular day, so a 3 day event pretty much insures you should have at least one dry day out of three. One of the guys in our club that we drive with keeps copious notes on each track (which I've started to do), regarding speeds, braking points, lines, etc.. so that when he returns he's not trusting memory for everything.by MikenOH - Main Forum
Only the guy that wrote the check can decide if the money was wasted. If he feels more comfortable or better about the car because of the changes, he may well conclude that this is money well spent. One less thing to worry about? Having said that, the lack of wear on this part is impressive. I second the question on seeing about getting the seals off to look at the grease.by MikenOH - Main Forum
