QuoteGuenter in Ontario Mark, I don't understand how a 12V battery showing a reading of 12.5v is down around 75%. That would mean that fully charged, it would have go give a reading of around 16.5v. I've never seen a reading that high. I'm not sure how that's possible on a 12V battery. My info is a 12V battery is made up of 6 cells, wired in series, with each cell contributing 2.2V (fully chargeby MarcW - Main Forum
At 12.5V the battery is down to around 75%. What you are seeing could be a voltage regulator but my (limited) experience is when one goes bad the voltage level drops rather than climbs. The voltage regulator in my 996 Turbo started acting up and the voltage level (observed via the in dash gauge) would start out ok but as I drove it would fall. Once after some time (< 1 hour if I recall) theby MarcW - Main Forum

From an article that details the salt from sea water process used by a salt producer here in the SF Bay Area: The process for harvesting sea salt on this commercial level is really a scaled-up version of how sea salt has been harvested for centuries. They create a series of interlocking shallow ponds that are exposed to the sun and wind. As the water evaporates and the salt concentrates, the wby MarcW - Main Forum
For bottled water my experience has been mostly with the bottled water that the local Porsche dealer stocks in a refrigerated cabinet in the sales area. I can't recall the brand: Crystal Geyser maybe?; but the bottle holds around 16 ounces and is small in diameter and its shape cylindrical so it fits cup holders well. I have one of these bottles in the fridge at home filled with water to put in tby MarcW - Main Forum
My experience with half shafts has mostly been good. But there was one exception... At around 25K miles I had my car in for a new RMS. 'course, the half shafts are unbolted from the transmission to remove the transmission to get at the RMS. Get the car back and the RMS was leak free from 25K miles to 317K miles when I sold the car. No problem with the new RMS. And no clutch, flywheel or transmiby MarcW - Main Forum
Zero connection between clutch and transmission a possibility, more below, but more likely zero connection between shift lever/linkage and transmission. Had something similar happen in my Turbo. Went to shift and suddenly the lever had less resistance. I can't be certain now but the lever might have felt a bit loose. After I had the car flat bedded to dealer tech found one of the cables to theby MarcW - Main Forum
QuoteBoxsterra It's a terrible starting point both because it's unlikely to be the problem and because you can tell if that's the cause with high certainty (and low cost) without replacing them. "Terrible" is a bit extreme but I would agree that it is not I would start with. As I ended my previous post I would more interested in why P1128/P1130 error codes were being logged.by MarcW - Main Forum
QuoteWyominguy Boxterra, My mechanic got back to me today and he wanted to start with the spark plugs (I replaced them on schedule a few years ago and will likely have him do it as I am not that ambitious anymore!) and then move the coils around to isolate the problem before replacing them. Neil Generally I don't like to go against what a professional mechanic advises. He's the pro. I'm not.by MarcW - Main Forum
Could be bad coils. I drove 317K miles with no coil failures but not everyone will have the same luck. You'll have to check the coils for any signs of cracking. If you find a coil with any signs of cracking replace all coils. If due or nearly due on time/miles might as well replace the spark plugs "while you are there". Be sure you use the right plugs. Check the gaps. Be sure you install the pluby MarcW - Main Forum
causing the engine no crank/no start behavior, the clutch interlock switch was very intermittent. It would not work then work and work and work and work, then not work. If you don't want to take the car to a dealer where a tech can retrieve error codes (they are not OBD2 codes but are still read from the OBD2 port) then replace the clutch interlock switch and at the same time the brake light swiby MarcW - Main Forum
Robbie gasoline (discount gasoline) to Shell V-Power an intermittent P0430 appeared less frequently. However, the P0430 error didn't go away entirely. Then after a few years when I switched from Shell V-Power to Chevron Supreme while the error code didn't become any less or more frequent the Boxster engine perked up some. This is from the better detergent (Techron) in Chevron gasoline. To permby MarcW - Main Forum
QuoteLew I recently spoke to a Porsche Tech at a Dealership while picking up a part about the rattle I was experiencing. The DMF was mentioned, clutch in switch off, no rattle, clutch out switch off the rattle. No mention of the Transmission. He ruled out the DMF. The tech said it could be a rusty release bearing. Anyone ever have a rusty throw out bearing making a noise?. Rust is not a commonby MarcW - Main Forum
Quoteboxtaboy Either that, or the mini and dodge (did you get s dodge?) forums are no fun. Miss the Boxster a bit, to be sure. Don't miss the cost of servicing/maintenance, though. For example: $399 oil/filter services have been replaced by sub $100 oil/filter services. My bank balance is growing nicely now that I'm not spending on average several hundred dollars (or more) per month on Porscheby MarcW - Main Forum
Can you have a helper work the key or the trunk unlock switch and see if you can push down on the trunk lid at the latch to remove some of the load and enough to perhaps let the latch then work and unlock the trunk? If not then you'll have to access the cable release and manually pull the latch and unlock the trunk. Quotemarty Guess what? It's playing up again... This morning I pressed the boot release fob button, the boot popped open with two beeps. Inside the car the red locking light was already on, and pressing to turn it off just got two beeps. At work the doors locked perfectly. Unfortunately the symptoms being intermittent is based on my experience a characteristic of a bad door lock controller.by MarcW - Main Forum
QuoteLarry Nakamura I only have 58K miles on the car. It's been garaged for 100% of it's life. I've had the front radiator grills on the car for 15 years or so. Maybe some small amount of small gravel. Anyway, I'm not suby MarcW - Main Forum
QuoteLarry Nakamura I didn't have the AC on at any time, so I don't think it is that. I did think of that already, but the fluid smelled like coolant. Used a V1 and a Garmin NAVI unit both plugged into the cigarette lighter socket in the dash of my Boxster and these devices never appeared to interfere with anything. Concurrent with, or shortly after the cabin vent fan speed drop did the cabin temperature feel like it went up? Did the cabin air feel humid? Be sure the door bottoms -- carpeted area -- are dry. If water gets over in the dry side it can cause all sorts of electrical gremlins but they start out associated with the door, door lock and window, affecting the normal behavior these. If the door bottoms are dry the symptoms can arise from a failing (failed) door lock controller. This is a rather large and sophisticated box that is part elecby MarcW - Main Forum
Can't point you to a video but I am pretty sure one exists. As for where to buy the window regulator, when I had the car in at my local dealer service department to have the regulator replaced the tech just ordered one via the dealer parts department. Regular oil changes tend to keep the acidity of the oil low which helps prolong seal life. Additionally POA oils are not seal friendly but they do have an additive (ester) to counter this. But regular use (and again regular oil changes to keep the seal friendly additive level high) are necessary to keep the seal from suffering from exposure to POA oil. Otherwise the seal will dry out and shrink.by MarcW - Main Forum
so much so that it could not be removed by pulling it out rather the cases had to be split. However, even though I knew this before I bought the car I was not concerned as I expected the odds of a 2008 engine suffering from an IMSB failure given reasonable care/servicing -- which in the case of my 2002 Boxster had the IMSB lasting 317K miles -- to be quite long.by MarcW - Main Forum
If the rattling noise is only present when the car is moving that can be something loose with the exhaust but it also raises the possibility of a bad CV bearing, loose/damaged brake pads, to name two things that come to mind before I've had my morning coffee. No Bentley manual to refer to or I'd check before posting but I'd check what fuse the horn circuit is on and see what other things might be on that circuit too and see if they work. Next check the electrical connections at the horn(s). Does the steering wheel have any other buttons/controls that have to work through the wheel/column interface? If yes do these all work?by MarcW - Main Forum
Check with an auto upholstery shop. Talked with the people at the shop that did the window in my Boxster then replaced the top and was told they often repair damaged seat cushions, bolsters, or seat back cushions that develop a tear or crack/split from age.
