QuoteChris in Va Beach My 09 Boxster had to take the flatbed of shame from the Marriott parking lot in Tyson’s Corner to the dealer a fee blocks away Thursday. I’m not fully sure what happened... came back from work, locked the car, went back to lift the handle and make sure it was locked, and left. Next morning, I came out to find the rear trunk ajar and both windows down 1/4 way. It raineby MarcW - Main Forum
Think it cost around $600 to get a new plastic window in my 2002's top. The shop that did the work had good word of mouth and when I talked to one of the owners he was enthusiastic about doing the replacement. Didn't sound negative or discouraging at all. The plastic window was the heavy plastic indistinguishable from the factory stuff. You can get a new top with the plastic rear window. I didby MarcW - Main Forum
QuoteCSK New member. First post. Original 944 owner and now have acquired from a friend a 2001 2.7 Boxster with 115k miles and many problems. This car passed emissions last year but dealer told former owner the cats were failing. Have tracked down and remedied most problems. Last action was to replace all oxygen sensors based on fault codes(P0150 & P1130 and age), clear all remaining codby MarcW - Main Forum
You have to do more than just change the brake fluid you need to after you have gone around the car in the proper sequence and flushed/bled every caliper then you need to flush/bleed the clutch slave cylinder. Without being able to hear the noise -- and this is not a subtle or not so subtle hint to provide one -- it is impossible to make any judgement call about the severity or urgency of the noby MarcW - Main Forum
QuoteLew I have been experiencing a rattling noise when I turn off the engine.....I don't hear the rattling noise when turning off the engine with the clutch pressed in. Is the Dual Mass Flywheel bad? Probably not the DMF. (But it can't be eliminated entirely. See below.) When bad they clunk when taking off and sometimes when shifting. The fact the noise is not present when you turn off the engby MarcW - Main Forum
QuoteParalizer I apologize if this is a repeat but I couldn't find anything on a search here. My 06 987S top is getting quite worn and thin in spots. (The problems of living in a nice climate with 300 plus days of sun p/year) Can anyone recommend a good place for a top replacement. Obviously I'm looking for a reasonable price as well as good quality. Thanks in advance. Don't know how convenientby MarcW - Main Forum
QuoteRWP A friend who is not active on the web has a frustrating problem with his 1997 Boxster. The car has about 60,000 miles, Tiptronic, but with an aftermarket supercharger. Car has run beautifully for several years. About 2 years ago the AOS failed and was replaced with a Porsche part along with all AOS hoses. At the time the hoses seeped a little oil, but nothing significant. Now, withby MarcW - Main Forum
Quotegrant I hoped the high pickup of the clutch in my track car was just air. Sadly, a simple (admittedly, underline simple) bleed the other night did nothing. I may have worn it a bit with some very aggressive shifting - a side effect of having a slow car. I'll try again, but without a lift its just an awful job (clutch, nto brakes) G Don't recall the pickup/engagement point changing after tby MarcW - Main Forum
QuotePetee_C No, I'm still thinking it's the new tranny fluid leading to improvement in shift feel... The clutch being hydraulic, shouldn't be affected much by whether the fluid is new or not,,, it's still not compressible at the temperatures/pressures it sees. I did not bleed the clutch. (I have changed brake fluid before with no difference in shift or transmission feel) While I adhered -by MarcW - Main Forum
the tranny fluid likely it was the flush/bleed that made the real difference. Even with relatively fresh transmission fluid -- I had my Boxster transmission/diff fluid changed on schedule or sooner -- old brake/clutch hydraulic fluid can really affect and not in a good way how not only the clutch operates but how the transmission shifts (due to the clutch's operation being affected by the bad/olby MarcW - Main Forum
P0335 and P0336 point to a crankshaft position sensor problem. You have to check the sensor connection and carefully check the sensor. It might have come loose and moves about which can affect the quality of its signal. If the signal is poor the engine controller may believe the engine is spinning slower than it actually is. A possible side effect is the tach can act erratically, although I woulby MarcW - Main Forum
Quotedb997S It has happened twice this week. Have a 2009 PDK. Car is in park, foot on brake pedal, turn the key and nothing. All the dash lights display, idiot lights on, but no clicking/cranking noise. Just dead silence. Turn again, same result. I remove the key, open the door and start over. Fires right up. Do I need a new batter for the key fob? Is the starter going (pun intended)? Aby MarcW - Main Forum
QuoteDmaz Ed & Marc, The boxster in question is mine and has been working as it should with the current engine & ECU for 2 years. A very experienced wrench suggested it could be the throttle body as he has seen a number of these e-gas throttle bodies fail on a number of different marques. I don't know if this is a classic "limp mode" or not but it feels like an old style cable has brokeby MarcW - Main Forum
Based on my experience I can tell you an engine off followed even if followed immediately by an engine start can cure, at least temporarily, a lot of ills. My Boxster manifested symptoms of what proved to be a bad VarioCam solenoid/actuator and yet an engine off followed by a restart had the symptoms gone. They remained gone during the 30 mile drive home. At other times O2 sensor errors would apby MarcW - Main Forum
QuoteEd B Boxster track car. 2002 with a :'99 3.4 996 engine. Engine randomly shuts down to idle while on the track. No response from the throttle. After shut off and restart, it's OK. No codes. Any ideas? Ed B Does the engine manifest any signs of not having enough fuel like an irregular idle, backfiring through the intake? Absent any signs of fueling problem I'm thinking the engine controlby MarcW - Main Forum
Quotemikefocke, '01S Sanford, NC from a horse, just a different kind. And if you have ever been to LA or Phoenix or Beijing you know pollution is real. I used to visit Phoenix in the 60s and 70s when it was a small attractive to live in town. Then a few years ago I drove into town only to see the city covered in a brown haze. Different when you have urban sprawl and millions of lives affected. Iby MarcW - Main Forum
Quotedb997S CA is a bit more advanced in the EV department than the rest of the country. Makes sense. Also, easier for Porsche to meet its goal of 500 in US. While the dealer has a few charging stations they are just a few, 3 maybe 4. Not sure how many more would be needed for this local dealer to do its fair share in offering charging opportunities to owners of battery powered Porsche elecby MarcW - Main Forum

Quotetom coughlin Thanks folks. All of what you guys are telling me is exactly what I believe. Basically what they want to get me ready to replace the rotors next time the brakes are done. Agreed, but not for something like almost $3000 they are talking about. Tom Roughly I paid the Porsche dealer service department around $1000/axle for brakes (rotors, pads, sensors, brake hardware) and I bby MarcW - Main Forum
QuoteMoore2806 Received my new relays today. I also got my Bentley manual for the Boxster. Tried the relay with no changes in results. Referred to the trouble shooting section of the manual. According to the tests I ran, the DME relay is not getting a signal from the ECM. Do not know where to go from here. It will be 2 weeks before the Porsche dealership can work me in. QuoteMoore2806 The car has a Tiptronics in it. I have tried everything mentioned in the posts thus far. I have not tried the trick with the brake yet, but will try that tonight. It still frustrates me that I can disconnect the negative cable, then reconnect the cable and the car will start. Then the car will not restart. I can repeat the previous procedure and get the same results. I am totalby MarcW - Main Forum
More just a result the rotors are cast iron. Any unpainted surfaces that are not swept by the pads will rust. Exposure to rain or just wash/rinse water will have the naked iron surfaces with a coating of rust. If one drives the car in the winter slush/ice that gathers under the wheel wells rains salty water down on the brake hardware as the car sits and this stuff melts. The rust is not a probleby MarcW - Main Forum
QuoteMoore2806 Battery died and was old, so I replaced the battery battery post and terminals were cleaned. Car will not crank. Read posts that it was probably the ignition switch, so I replaced the switch. Reinstalled the negative battery cable and tried to start the car. The car started immediately. Tried to restart and nothing. Disconnected the battery again and checked the cable. Reconby MarcW - Main Forum
P1118 - Oxygen sensor heating after TWC, bank 2. This suggests the heater in the sensor is not functioning properly and this suggests the sensor is just defective. The pre and post converter sensors -- at least this is the case with my 2002 Boxster and I think from 2000 to 2002 -- are as best I can tell identical other than one (I don't recall which one) has a longer electrical lead. QuoteWayne K I was doing some reading on Rennlist GT3 forum regarding a small rubber house that is known to burst on the fuel pump. Does anyone know if that is an issue of concern with a 2002 Boxster S? The GT3 fuel deliver system is different from that of the Boxster. The fuel pump from my 2002 Boxster didn't even have a rubber hose. All hoses were the nylon kind. After nearly 200K miles theby MarcW - Main Forum
Quotebb1 Hey folks - I finally took my car into the dealer for this (recap - 2000 Boxster - key was getting harder and harder to turn, esp. if key not turned for several hrs; I had already replaced the electrical ignition switch myself and that didn't fix, and with that disconnected - it was still hard to turn). Here's what they told me and I wanted to get some feedback before I pick it up. Theby MarcW - Main Forum
QuoteAnker On the 5 speed you will overfill if you fill till it runs out. The correct level is lower than the fill hole. You need a small measuring tool, a paper clip will do, to determine the level. Did not say to fill the 5-speed until the fluid ran out the fill hole. The OP mentioned he had a 6-speed. That fill until the fluid runs out the fill hole is the way the 6-speed gets filled with fluby MarcW - Main Forum

My Bentley manual says the 5-speed manual takes 2.25 liters of fluid, the 6-speed manual takes 2.8 liters. Fluid is "SAE 75W90". My info is there are two fluids: Mobil (Mobilube PTX) and Shell. Since I had the dealer service my Boxster's 5-speed and my Turbo's 6-speed I never bothered to worry about transmission fluids. The service department just used whatever the factory called for.
