You are correct. Pedro's solution may be the best out there. I need to define my terms. By "Band-Aid" I mean any modification not approved by Porsche for installation by Porsche dealers. In other words, many knowledgeable Porsche owners at this point are faced with a decision to have a modification done by an independent which will not increase the book value of their car. Today many Porscheby SteveJ (2010 987 base, manual trans) - Main Forum
Well, this is the next, and probably the best, Band-Aid solution. At this point, one should ask oneself, if they have an IMS Boxster or 911, whether it is time to cut losses and sell and get the best 2009 or later Porsche. I've been lurking here for years before actually owning a Boxster, and I know this is the place to get the best and latest true information on Boxster ownership. The heat control may be the culprit. The heat and A/C work together to defrost. That's all I know, so not much help. I just wouldn't assume A/C if defrost works.by SteveJ (2010 987 base, manual trans) - Main Forum
Long range planning is something I prefer myself. Having said that, you might give a thought to the power seat package with adjustable lumbar support. As I posted earlier, I basically was forced to sell my Z3 because of problems with my lower back. The Z3 was fine for me when I bought it new in 2002. I had some back problems then, but was able to drive the Z3 for five or six hours at a stretcby SteveJ (2010 987 base, manual trans) - Main Forum

I didn't know the base 2010 used a different transmission than the S model. I don't expect it to be an ongoing problem. The two step shift, first to neutral and then neutral to second completely eliminates the issue even when the transmission is hot. I have no problems when downshifting at all.by SteveJ (2010 987 base, manual trans) - Main Forum
The original owner was kind enough to let me have the service records. There was a little over 15K on the car when I bought it, a little over 17K now after the trip back home. Nothing was done other than annual oil changes, a new battery under warranty, and two new PS2's at around 6K miles. One of the front tires picked up a nail and couldn't be repaired, so both tires were replaced to keep thby SteveJ (2010 987 base, manual trans) - Main Forum
This article from Road and Track on a test drive of the new GT3 has some interesting things to say about PDK vs. manual, and some info on the electrically assisted steering which is an improvement over that available on other Porsche models.by SteveJ (2010 987 base, manual trans) - Main Forum
Thanks. I'm thinking that I may need to let it get a bit worse, at least if it is temperature dependent as I suspect. We don't get that many 90 degree days here in Minneapolis. I am going to go to great lengths to make sure that everything is taken care of under warranty. They are good about plowing the roads here in the suburb where I live, and I will be putting winter wheels and tires on thby SteveJ (2010 987 base, manual trans) - Main Forum
I've been driving the 2010 Boxster for two weeks now. I like driving it around town to do errands, and I was very surprised today to hear a crunch on a shift between first and second. I was able to reproduce the problem by trying to slam a shift between first and second with the clutch carefully pressed all the way to the floor. Temperature outside was 92 and I had the AC going. No problem ifby SteveJ (2010 987 base, manual trans) - Main Forum
These are the sports cars I've owned over the last 52 years: MG TD, Fiat 124 Sport Coupe, 1985 Corvette, 2000 Corvette, 2002 Z3, 2008 Corvette, and now the Boxster. Not that I haven't had other transportation. Several BMW motorcycles, GM vans, and a Honda Pilot among others. I can't imagine any of the sports cars with an automatic transmission. I took the Bee Line Highway (87) to 260 to 277 to 377 before I hit Interstate 40. The drive was beautiful. Temperature was near 100. Great scenery and occasional excursions to 100+ mph.by SteveJ (2010 987 base, manual trans) - Main Forum

I posted last week that I was going to fly to Phoenix and pick up a base Boxster to drive home to Minneapolis. The car is home, and here are a couple of pictures: I'll say a little bit about the purchase, the drive home, and my opinion of the Bose audio system. First, the purchase went very well. A search on Autotrader will show that as of today, there are exactly 4 Boxsters for sale by pby SteveJ (2010 987 base, manual trans) - Main Forum
I just checked the weather for Phoenix, and the high tomorrow is expected to be 99 degrees. To be safe, I am going to define cruising under those conditions as "hard or extended driving." Most driving tips in the manual are common sense, such as letting the car reach normal operating temperature before hard driving. This is one I haven't seen before. I am really excited right now because I'mby SteveJ (2010 987 base, manual trans) - Main Forum
I will be driving a new to me 2010 base Boxster from Arizona to Minnesota next week. This is my first Porsche. I have the owner's manual for a 2009 Boxster in pdf form which I downloaded from Porsche years ago. I'd like to know anything which is missing or poorly covered in the manual that might be helpful. I have one specific question right now. According to the manual "Do not stop engine iby SteveJ (2010 987 base, manual trans) - Main Forum
I ordered the kit from their website rather than from ebay. There is a lightened version with more mounting options not shown on the ebay link. I will give a short review after the kit is installed. Running without the front plate is not an option for me. My wife will also be driving the car and she doesn't want to risk being stopped.by SteveJ (2010 987 base, manual trans) - Main Forum
In a couple of weeks I'll be flying down to Arizona to pick up a 2010 base Boxster. More about that when I get back home to Minneapolis. Minnesota requires a front plate, and the car I am buying thankfully has no holes drilled in the bumper. I wonder if anyone has experience positive or negative with the kit shown here?by SteveJ (2010 987 base, manual trans) - Main Forum
I will give you the perspective of a potential customer. I have been looking on Autotrader for a 2009 or newer Boxster with a price less than 40,000, manual transmission, for sale by a private party. The filtering options on Autotrader make this quite easy. Also, for $25 you can run an ad with a click through option to show the Carfax on your particular car to a potential buyer. The car has been serviced at Blue Grass Porsche in Louisville. I may give them a call about PPI. It is my understanding that Porsche dealers have proprietary equipment that can determine if the car has ever experienced revs over the limit that might occur on downshift. This would be one consideration.by SteveJ (2010 987 base, manual trans) - Main Forum
Thanks for the advice. I'm looking at another possibility and I'm not committed at this point to this particular car. I do prefer a private party rather than a dealer, and I'm looking only at a 2009 or later. Single owner is also good. My hunch is that we will see more private party cars as people see what numbers they are looking at for a trade-in on a 981.by SteveJ (2010 987 base, manual trans) - Main Forum
This is a good way to answer your questions:by SteveJ (2010 987 base, manual trans) - Main Forum
You raise an interesting point. The car for sale is from a private party, not a dealer. The owner has already said that I could talk to the service manager at the dealership who is familiar with the car. I am wondering if that reference could be trusted? I will continue research for PPI options.by SteveJ (2010 987 base, manual trans) - Main Forum

I'm certainly willing to listen on this topic. This would be my first Porsche. The seller is the second owner and had the car shipped to him from another Porsche dealer in 2010. All service records have been saved. Please PM me if you don't want to clutter up the board with stuff. There is no rush on this. I wouldn't be able to drive the car home until mid March at the earliest.by SteveJ (2010 987 base, manual trans) - Main Forum
The car is under Porsche warranty until May 1, 2013. My plan is to drive the car home to Minneapolis if I buy it and then have the local dealer go through it and fix any issues before the warranty expires.by SteveJ (2010 987 base, manual trans) - Main Forum
I'm interested in possibly buying a 2009 base Boxster in Lexington. The car is still under factory warranty so I'm not really looking for an expert PPI, but if someone could look at the car just for cosmetic issues I would sure appreciate it. How reliable is this information? I've been keeping tabs on the prices of used Boxsters from 2009 to 2012. I'm thinking that perhaps I should also conside a 986 Boxster S and pay to have the LN bearing installed right after purchase.by SteveJ (2010 987 base, manual trans) - Main Forum
