I have a 2000 Base Boxster. No track time and mostly 3 season driving. I presently have Sumitomo HTR ZIII tires on the car - tirerack.com no longer carries these. Can anyone suggest a good, comparable tire? These were $108 apiece the last time I purchased them. For my needs, these tires have been perfectly acceptable. Appreciate the input. The halogens in the car are 55 watt - people have had complaints in the past about replacing them with 60 watt versions. 30 is obviously less than 55, but I have no idea about heat dissipation for LEDs. I have LED bulbs in the Subaru - due to the difficulty of installing bulbs based on the 2014 design, even if they weren't better (they are), longevity would be reason enough. I just replaced thby AndyInNYC - Main Forum
Nobody has done this or has any thoughts? Andrewby AndyInNYC - Main Forum
I recently replace my front headlight assemblies following a lapse in attention (the truck won). My headlight visibility is still terrible. When I replaced the headlights I asked my favored mechanic "will these help?" and his response, with laughter, was "can't be any worse". I know that higher wattage halogens (along with standard 55s) will turn the lamp brown. These bulbs: are 30 watts anby AndyInNYC - Main Forum
If you have a trickle charger that plugs into the cig lighter, you should be able to power the battery enough to get the car to start. Even before it can start, it should get enough juice to the battery to allow you to pull the release handle. Andrewby AndyInNYC - Main Forum
Sure you didn't put it in the back trunk of the car? Good luck with repair #2. Andrewby AndyInNYC - Main Forum
QuoteTheFarmer I agree with Boxterra that this is an easy job and satisfying, if not fun (but probably fun is a fine description). The online videos and instructions are fine and getting the parts is easy. The biggest requirement is an acceptable jack and jack stands to ensure your safety (oh, and a suitable garage so you can take your time - I would not want to do this on a city street!). Forum ate my first attempt at a post - hope it doesn't post this twice. Sorry that I'm reviving an old thread, but it is directly on point. My 2000 Boxster's brake wear light came on as I was prepping to go to the airport. I called my mechanic to see about bringing it in on my return. He quoted $597 for pads and the sensor(s) or $957 if I replace the rotors too. He was firm that he would repby AndyInNYC - Main Forum
Well, the story ends well, but I had a slight scare. I parked the car at 10AM on Thursday and returned at 6PM on Tuesday - we can all do the math. The remote did *not* open the door. I was afraid I was doomed I opened the car with the key and started the car - it started immediately (good news!). I let the engine run for 5 minutes and tried the remote again and the lock on the trunk released (by AndyInNYC - Main Forum
If I just lock the door manually (with the key) will that avoid the problem? I'm not sure what an alarm going off in the parking lot of a small, regional airport will really accomplish anyway. Andrewby AndyInNYC - Main Forum
I ended up buying this one: NEXPOW 2000A Peak 18000mAh Car Jump Starter with USB Quick Charge 3.0 (Up to 7.0L Gas or 6.5L Diesel Engine), 12V Portable Battery Starter, Battery Booster with Built-in LED Light from Amazon. Without the case it will fit in the shelf behind the driver - with the case it is too big. Since I have a non-electric latch for the front trunk, I just tossed it in there. I don't think any part of my latch/cable to the front trunk is electrically operated. That's part of what I'm trying to confirm (now with conflicting comments).by AndyInNYC - Main Forum
I'm going away for a 5 day trip and will park my 2000 at the airport with the alarm on. *If* the battery goes dead, can I still open the door lock via the key on a 2000 with a dead battery? *If* I can open the door, does the front trunk pull also work without any battery power? I'm thinking of dropping a small jump start battery in the small cabinet behind the seats, but I need to know if I willby AndyInNYC - Main Forum
My 2000 Boxster has a rear sliding cover storage area between and behind the seats. Does anyone have/know of a quality jump start battery kit that will fit into this enclosure?by AndyInNYC - Main Forum
I have an '00 Base; I've worried about this very question. My mechanic's answer was basically 'if it hasn't broken by now (100K miles) it's not likely to break'. He gets the work to fix it now or in the future, so I don't think he has an economic motivation one way or the other. Andrewby AndyInNYC - Main Forum
Yes, that's the ask. Have you seen any closed sales to confirm? Andrewby AndyInNYC - Main Forum
Brought the car back in to Provost Motorsports in Bordentown. Turns out a valve(?) on the emissions was broken/sticking/something (yeah, I'm *that* good in mechanic-speak!). Porsche part is sold only as a part with the hoses on either end and lots of labor getting at both ends. Since Provost does lots of track cars where the emissions are pulled, Max pulled one off the shelf, clipped the hosesby AndyInNYC - Main Forum
So, I took it to my mechanic this AM. It was an interesting morning. It started right up this morning and I drove it over - no problems. He checked the battery, alternator and starter - everything seemed fine. On my drive home, the check engine light appeared, so I turned around and drove back. I have an emissions issue - he can hear the leak by the gas cap, but it isn't the gas cap. I needby AndyInNYC - Main Forum
I drove up to the pump at Costco and filled the tank. When I turned the key, the car wouldn't start. While waiting for AAA the Costco guys offered to jump start me (it didn't seem like a battery issue since the radio, lights and dash all lit up and worked). After a minute hooked up to their battery, the car turned over (of course). So, I was able to drive home, but I'm not sure what to make oby AndyInNYC - Main Forum
Bought the lamin-x and it was delivered. The headlights .... still not until 6/26. Must be a really slow Latvian boat. Good thing we have a curfew and I can't drive at night anyway. I'll post more when they arrive. Andrewby AndyInNYC - Main Forum
If it's the right part, why pay more elsewhere?by AndyInNYC - Main Forum
I ended up ordering this pair: ebay pair of headlights although it was $800 for me. $58 'tax' (from Latvia?) and they are on the way guess I can sell the old one on ebay myself. I'll look into the Lamin-x - you have a link? Andrewby AndyInNYC - Main Forum
I have a 2000 Boxster - and I rear ended a RAV4 over the weekend. His car - fine. My car - ouch. Allstate is giving me grief about replacing the headlamp - they want to drop in a used one. The current one is unblemished by age (it was replaced when a deer bolted in front of me). I can buy from ebay an OEM replacement: ebay OEM replacement (one side) and replace the pair (the passenger side iby AndyInNYC - Main Forum
Can you post a link to the hack? Andrewby AndyInNYC - Main Forum
In my case, I'm referring to the microswitch (push button module) that turns the 'brake' light on in the dash. I picked up the part from the dealer for $10. All the youtube videos tell me it's a time consuming, reasonably easy (two sizes of torx screw) job. For all the experts out there (and I'm a mechanically challenged idiot), any reason why I shouldn't do this on my own? After pulling theby AndyInNYC - Main Forum
Wow, what an easy task. After 20 years, my front trunk no longer stays in the up position (especially when it is cold out). After watching a youtube video, ordered the parts from Amazon; had my son hold the top open and popped the old ones off with a screwdriver and pushed the new ones in place. If I had known it was so easy, I would have done it 3 years ago when it started to give me problemsby AndyInNYC - Main Forum
Can someone give me an estimate of how much time my mechanic should charge me for if I have him replace the microswitch ($8 part, thanks Porsche) on my 2000 Boxster? I'm speaking of the one in the center console. Seems like it should be under an hour for someone competent - and my guys are terrific - but I'd like an estimate to know if they are in the ballpark or using me as their ATM. Thanks.by AndyInNYC - Main Forum
My front driver side plastic/rubber liner came off - the one that fits around the frame/above and around the tire. Does anyone make a non-Porsche replacement? Anyone have a source for a discounted version? Andrewby AndyInNYC - Main Forum
For the 2000, it's also a cheap fix to replace the switch (although it involves an ability to contort oneself). The part is a Porsche/Audi/VW common part. I got mine (my second one) years ago from the local Audi dealer. You might want to replace it for $20 'cause you can.by AndyInNYC - Main Forum
Do you just run the wire alongside/along the bottom and exit or is there some other mechanism for getting the cable in front of the stereo? A picture would be nice. Andrewby AndyInNYC - Main Forum
