I purchased a Willwood system for my 2000 Boxster and purchased (assembled) the bike rack and luggage rack. I've never used the luggage rack, and my wife would like it out of the garage. Anyone want it? It's fully assembled/modified for the Willwood system. I'm not sure if the system has changed - this luggage rack has two prongs for a dual receiver system on the Boxster. It seems my Sears brand trickle charger/maintainer has died (or at least my battery did). It was probably $25 when I bought it. I have a 2000 Boxster and use the cig lighter adapter for charging in the winter. Can someone suggest a "good or good enough" charger? I'm reading good/bad on the CTEC and variable on lots of others, but a lot of the postings are several years old. The CTEK US3300 wby AndyInNYC - Main Forum
I have a 2000 Base. I put the top up to bring the car in for service (new battery, transmission fluid leak and god knows what else). I tried to place the top down today and there's no power (no light, no whirring motor, etc.). I'll call the mechanic in the AM, but are there any simple fixes or is this going to be a big deal? My Sears charger just gave up the ghost (and I replaced the Boxster battery with a new one). Any suggestions on make/model to get from Amazon for next Winter? I'll be using the cig lighter adapter. Thanks. Andrewby AndyInNYC - Main Forum
Just to close the loop, I purchased this one from Amazon: MPOW Mount It's been perfect so far. Andrewby AndyInNYC - Main Forum
Thanks. From experience, though, I hate the vent ones - I use the AC and heat, and it blocks the flow or roasts the phone. The less minimilist versions have broken on me, etc. Any windshield mounted versions that people like? I could order 6 varieties from Amazon to find one that works, but I HATE that kind of return abuse - I’m sure they do too. Andrewby AndyInNYC - Main Forum
Bought the Walmart-sold bracket and have had it on the car since a week after the original post. Working perfectly. It's staying level after using Locktite as suggested from many sources. Cheap, easy to install and much better than the aging holes in my bumper which were no longer (if ever) secure for the Porsche provided/sold bracket. Would recommend this to anyone (especially with an agingby AndyInNYC - Main Forum
I have a 2000 Boxster and no longer use my Garmin GPS - my iPhone apps seem to work as well or better. I don't, however, have a good mount for the phone while driving. In the van, I have a long necked suction cup which works really well - stays out of the way, has never popped off, etc. I think the size, however, would be too big in the small confines of the Boxster's interior. I have a 2000 Boxster and once again my front license plate has gone poof. Has anyone used the license plate holders which mount to the towing 'bracket' on the front bumper? I'm hoping these are less prone to falling off/being pulled off/etc. than the brackets which click into the two holes in the front. Thoughts? Thanks. Andrewby AndyInNYC - Main Forum
I have a Tip, so this may not be relevant. I had a rattle which resulted from popped rivers on the heat shield. Really quick/cheap fix. Andrewby AndyInNYC - Main Forum
I'm just hoping to 'roll down' the curled up top layer of the leather. I'd hate to cut a hole just to get it to lie flat. Any other suggestions? Andrewby AndyInNYC - Main Forum
What you can’t tell from the picture is that the rip isn’t all the way through, so there is t an ‘under’ to put the patch in. It is more like the top layers of skin peeled back, but no blood. Thoughts? Andrewby AndyInNYC - Main Forum
So, I have a small tear in my passenger seat after 18 years. Any suggestions on the best way to repair it? Should I just run some Crazy Glue on the bottom and push the fabric back down? Thanks. Andrewby AndyInNYC - Main Forum
My rear plastic window is getting to be opaque. A local place quoted $650 to sew in a new top - they weren't very friendly or completely interested in doing the work. Following a few threads on various boards I hunted down a shop in Philly which quoted $450. $450 sounds about right. I don't want a new top with glass and a smaller viewport, so replacing the existing vinyl seems like my best sby AndyInNYC - Main Forum
Given my level of mechanical stupidity, I didn't feel comfortable doing the repair. Took it to my mechanic who fixed it in front of me. He charged me for 1/2 hour of labor (was probably only 15 minutes - another customer came in and we chatted about his car). He did, however, pull a spring from another door panel they had and put it in without additional cost. The spring's top had sheared offby AndyInNYC - Main Forum

I understand you haven't used them. Is there anything in the description to cause me NOT to buy them? Andrewby AndyInNYC - Main Forum

This happened on my 2000 last winter (it was really cold). By summer it had cleared up and hasn't returned. I posted a picture on the board, so if you search you'll see my version. Andrewby AndyInNYC - Main Forum
There are a couple on eBay for +/- $100 or best offer. Andrewby AndyInNYC - Main Forum

Hi all. So my new transmission seems to be working, although I have to get back to my mechanic about some really small leaks he and I discussed post repair. New problem, however. My driver's side door handle tension spring (I think that's the name and problem) snapped on me. The symptoms are that I heard and felt it go and the door handle is now 'slack' for lack of a better word. When I hby AndyInNYC - Main Forum
Well, the car is ready - but with all the ice and snow it will need to wait a few days to be picked up. 14 hours of labor at $124 per $1000 for new (old) tip transmission pulled from an 80K mileage car $450 shipping from CA 2 MCV boot kit $52.6 trans fluid $180 AT Filter $53 Pan Gasket $43 Tax plus rounding = $3802.67 to get my 2000 back on the road (in winter ). Manual replacement trans is also a lot cheaper!!! Good luck on the replacement. Question: Should I have the IMS replaced on my '00 while they are replacing the tip trans? It's again more money at a bad time - to my way of thinking, if it hasn't broken in 17 years, why would replacing it now be a good thing? Andrewby AndyInNYC - Main Forum
On mine, something gave which caused the transmission to become a total loss - it basically ate itself. Or so the mechanic has said. Andrewby AndyInNYC - Main Forum
This is only the second auto transmission they've seen which has shredded itself. We/they found an eBay compatible part and we'll see if they get it and if it works. It seems as though a running 2000 Tip goes for 10-13K. As parts, closer to $4K. So it seems like spending $3,500 makes sense on the economics side as well as (and more profoundly) the emotional side. Andrewby AndyInNYC - Main Forum
Well, it's the transmission (tip). And apparently it broke in such a manner so that it can't be repaired. Just my luck. So, looks like a $3500 repair +/-. It couldn't have been a flat tire? Andrewby AndyInNYC - Main Forum
Yeah, they mentioned the IMS - $800-900 if I recall. I was still stunned by the epic failure of the engine. Andrewby AndyInNYC - Main Forum
I was on my way to my indie mechanic (Provost Motorsports in Bordentown, NJ) to have them replace my passenger side mirror glass with the rounded mirror I purchased after cracking my mirror a year ago and not yet fixing it. I figured if I did it myself I would either crack it, have it fall out/off or cut myself badly enough to end up with stitches. No big deal, they were happy to help. 1.5 milby AndyInNYC - Main Forum
