Had the boxster off the trickle charger for about 3 weeks and the battery died . Used a battery charger to get charge back and back on the trickle charger. The porsche service manager said need to be careful as the discharge could have caused the battery to "sulphinate" quickly and reduce the lifetime of the battery. Any truth to that statement? Battery is 2 years old and never died beforeby sdm100 - Main Forum
Fluid was low, as it fluctuated not sure why...(not sure maybe air bubble surfaced eventually) Added some distilled water with water wetter coolant additive. Will keep an eye on it. My coolant cap ends in 01 so might order up a newer version. Thank you all for your helpby sdm100 - Main Forum

Off to Lime rock this week noted that the coolant light was flashing. Had done my spring coolant flush with the vacuum device, held pressure well and no apparent air bubbles. Topped it off and drove for about 1 hr before light came on. Stopped took cap off replaced and light off for just a short period of time. Have not seen any coolant leak, coolant level is good, trunk is dry. Using second genby sdm100 - Main Forum
Have to take my daughter to U of Michigan for her orientation and will have 2 1/2 days of free time. Was wondering if anyone had any suggestions on car museums available to visit during my stay in the Detroit and surrounding area. Henry Ford museum is a must but what else is available? Too bad no Porsche museumby sdm100 - Main Forum
Nothing is Lifetime Have been doing it approximately every 5 years. I can tell you the old stuff after years is clearer and not as greasy than the new coolant. Good insurance to protect the water pumpby sdm100 - Main Forum

This weekend and the spark plug replacement, an oil filter change and flushed the radiators (has been 5 years) For those doing the flush have to recommend the air tool along with Pedro's web site. Even my helper, a master mechanic loved the idea of how easy it was to accomplished. Last time did the flush and attempted to get the air out with revving the engine but periodically has to open up theby sdm100 - Main Forum
You need to be Houdini just to get at the oil filter and plugs. That alone is timely and costly.by sdm100 - Main Forum
Now I know the difference between the two. The Boxster has been easy to work on especially with all of the help on the board. Just did the 60k tuneup on the 1995 993 and with parts (brakes, plugs, rotors, distributers fluid changes, filters) etc) came to alittle over 2K including labor and parts. I know its the big service but think my independent dealer was quite reasonable on labor cost (partsby sdm100 - Main Forum
The 98 low mileage is now 13 years old and want to change out the transmission fluid. Question what is the better fluid to use. I understand that it needs GL-4 (correct?) and I have read that Mobil 1 Synthetic is GL-5 rated and cannot be used? So for a summer driver what brand would you recommend? Swepco or Redline were mentioned. Appreciate your inputby sdm100 - Main Forum
