What is right for one person is not what should influence another. I started out working on engines in my teens. Collected an amazing amount of specialized tools over a lifetime. I got tired of working on my cars beyond washing and driving them and doing simple things like battery swaps and windshield arm swaps. I'm surprised at my son's green bent which certainly preceded any move of mine inby mikefocke, '01S Sanford, NC - Main Forum

I beg to disagree. When I owned both of my Boxsters, I relied on them to get me there in any kind of weather. I took the S through the edge of a hurricane when my other car choice was a Honda CRV with the best rain tires you could buy. The Boxster had take-offs that were 4 years old. I relied on the gas infrastructure to never delay my trip, to never not be available within the next 15 minutby mikefocke, '01S Sanford, NC - Main Forum
My 43 year old MS ChemE son has two Prius hybrids, just installed solar, just downsized, is green as can be and so is his wife. After 2 Boxsters (and a 914 and 2 Alfas), my last two cars have been hybrids. When I look now at the price of premium fuel and factor in the difference in MPG and depreciation, that fun was awfully expensive. And heck, it isn't like I couldn't afford a new 911 Turbo oby mikefocke, '01S Sanford, NC - Main Forum
was a 120v type. Really, if your typical use is charge overnight, drive 20-150 miles during the day and then back home and charge overnight an EV is a great car. And would smoke any Boxster. But is that isn't your use pattern, if you live in cold cold country, if it is your only car or if it has to live nights out on the street...then not for you. Or if your electricity feed can't handle 50 ampby mikefocke, '01S Sanford, NC - Main Forum
There are chargers in Boone. I had last looked 3-4 years ago and there were none on the SC coast or in the NC mountains but now there are several.by mikefocke, '01S Sanford, NC - Main Forum

My wish for you is the bright 72 degree F we had today. Definitely top down weather. To those in the North, happy hibernation. Stay safe and healthy.by mikefocke, '01S Sanford, NC - Main Forum
Pirelli, the ones with different fronts and rear tread patterns. Asymetricos I think they were called. But they was a formulation from at least 15 years ago.by mikefocke, '01S Sanford, NC - Main Forum
the day after Thanksgiving when the temps had dropped overnight and the road had frozen. I thought I was OK as it was above freezing and no precip. I went out to get an estimate on getting a pit on my windshield repaired. My attention was distracted by a Boxster parked on the side of the road and I looked up and couldn't stop in time. Slid into a pickup. He had no damage. It is amazing what lookby mikefocke, '01S Sanford, NC - Main Forum

Featured many model lines. 911, 911 Carerra convertible, Macan, Cayenne, etc. But notice what was omitted until a tiny picture on the "oh we have used cars too" page. The Boxster and Cayman. Hidden meaning?by mikefocke, '01S Sanford, NC - Main Forum
that we will have two such performance sedans to choose from. Rarefied class for both. Remember to be humble, not everyone can afford even the least priced of those brands (new).by mikefocke, '01S Sanford, NC - Main Forum

not production cars. This is their first time at the Ring. And they were there for only a few days. They had little time to arrange dedicated track time. They tried two brands of tires. One car posted the time, one car broke down. They say they will be back with a production car. Not bad for a first effort. Good publicity. Now Porsche should bring one of their top end models and try to beat thatby mikefocke, '01S Sanford, NC - Main Forum
I have owned 5 sports cars. 2 Alfas back in the 1960s (yea, I'm ancient), a 1070 914 and two Boxsters. Simultaneous to owning both Boxsters I owned a CRV with the world's most aggressive rain and snow tires. So what did I replace both those cars with? Not a Jeep. Not a high end machine. A Prius station wagon. Why you ask (or maybe you don't but I'll tell you anyway)? Because it was different.by mikefocke, '01S Sanford, NC - Main Forum
Acceleration and range are both inferior to the much cheaper Tesla S. The interior gets high marks though. But better not be to tall. I hear a Tesla is headed for the Ring to see what numbers it can put down.by mikefocke, '01S Sanford, NC - Main Forum

the number was well above $90k MSRP. At anywhere near that price, I wonder what second year options Chevy will throw at the 'vette? I'm investing as if there will be a slowdown in the economy maybe not tomorrow but some day. Booms only run so long. You can only borrow so much to fuel them. Add in places that aren't allowing ICE cars (and those are big city prosperous areas). Global pressureby mikefocke, '01S Sanford, NC - Main Forum

4 hour rounds give a lot of potential exposure. Similar to a 250 mile drive with the top down. My dermatologist keeps taking samples of skin from my left arm. Can you guess if I drove a LHD or a RHD car?by mikefocke, '01S Sanford, NC - Main Forum
moving from a 6 bedroom house plus office in the city to a 3 bedroom house in the city. So I appreciate just how long it takes to get things set up even without a garage and workshop in addition to living quarters. May it go well.by mikefocke, '01S Sanford, NC - Main Forum
My first mid-engine Porsche was a brand new 914 in the first model year of 1970. A wonderfully fun car, but a disaster from a service, parts and support standpoint. Sold in the week before the 2-year warranty ran out. Took more than 35 years before my next, a '99 Boxster. Completely different post-buy experience. Which was more fun? The 914 because I was in my 20's and stupid foolish. Oh the skiby mikefocke, '01S Sanford, NC - Main Forum
Everything from a Volvo PV544 and '65 Ford Falcon to 5 roadsters including 3 Porsches. Probably 40 cars over 60 years of driving. Mostly stick but towards the end of my business career I realized I was better rested by an slushomatic as my commute had degenerated from 7 minutes to 50 over the same route with no real options for another. And now I drive a cvt. Why would I do that? Well 3 cvts in tby mikefocke, '01S Sanford, NC - Main Forum

Then why do I hear handling praised on several pure EVs by road testers? I agree 0-60 isn't the most important thing but when you are merging it is nice to have. Or just passing a semi or two at 70 (112). And just you wait, the Boxster hybrid and perhaps EV are just around the corner. 2022 models. And you think the furor over a 4-cyl Turbo was loud.
