Lets assume just for a second that the rate of failure for whatever causes of the original IMS part has been ~.5% per motor year (I choose that figure, though I think it too high, because it approximates 1k failures per year based on the 200k plus Boxsters running around. I really think the figure is less than half that.) Since ~1,800 of the LN part have been installed, we should have heard of sby mikefocke, '01S Sanford, NC - Main Forum
Though the snow is an effective camouflage. What I notice is the size of the wheel wells or rather the small size of the metal between the wheels and the top of the fender. Looks like they are going to a larger size wheel.by mikefocke, '01S Sanford, NC - Main Forum

I came across someone whose taillight circuit board had failed. I sold him one for a deep deep discount from even ebay prices. Then 3 weeks ago, someone needed the other for the same reason. So the same deep discount applied. You never know when you can do someone a favor from that pile of spares. Not to mention they contain spare bulbs if they are like mine.by mikefocke, '01S Sanford, NC - Main Forum

Or is it that the '08s are comparatively young and still under warranty? Which means that age related deterioration of a seal hasn't fully taken effect and, if it has, Porsche has taken care of the problems caused under warranty so people aren't as liable to have screamed. Why would Charles go to the expense of IMS replacement-shaft development if there hadn't been failures creating the potentialby mikefocke, '01S Sanford, NC - Main Forum
2 years ago I was regularly going by the BMW plant and noting they had stopped work on their second plant. Somehow building a multi-hundred-million dollar plant in these days of excess strikes me as just crazy. As are these goals of being #1 overnight. It takes years to build the reputation and multiple desirable/affordable cars. As are the multiple make-em-here and then make-em-there decisions.by mikefocke, '01S Sanford, NC - Main Forum
Is 1750 installed enough? Is 2.5 years enough? Is 0 failures reported enough? Lets say ~1/3 of those have been installed a year (and throw out all the others!). In 600 car years, how many failures would there have been without em? If Porsche's bearing failed at a rate as low as .5%/year that would be 3 failures. Is this difference between 0 and 3 significant enough? I think it is a question eaby mikefocke, '01S Sanford, NC - Main Forum
the product the TN plant is intended to produce in volume hasn't been well received by the press in its initial showings. All that investment for less than expected output leads to a new strategy.by mikefocke, '01S Sanford, NC - Main Forum
This was the first I'd seen the 350 out of the turbo 4-cyl which was why I posted it. Will Porsche bring in a 4 cyl 260 HP VW platform at the low end? Where does that leave the Boxster if the 911 or 912 gets the 2.5/360?by mikefocke, '01S Sanford, NC - Main Forum

It seems when the number of pages in a forum reaches a certain number the text to "turn floating whatevers off" oddly wraps the word off to the beginning of the next line thus disassociating it from the rest of the phrase. Told you it was a nit.by mikefocke, '01S Sanford, NC - Board suggestions

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o_upbH9vhq0 I'd presume that every pulley with the exception of the crankshaft should spin easily and not wobble. Sounds like an opportunity to replace the water pump while you are in there. That is covered on Pedro's site.by mikefocke, '01S Sanford, NC - Main Forum
can do it. Covered in Owner's Manual. Look in your toolkit for the headlight removal tool. Trick: low beam is upper bulb and you can't tell that very well from the pictures in the Owner's Manual. Note how the pegs on the side of the headlight assy slide out as you take it out so you can get it in the right way putting it back. Once you have locked the assy back in place, try to pull it out. where it is spectacular, to me, is on a Cayman. I still remember the first time I saw a SG CS ... at a dealers and it was a customer's car. I just had to go up and tell him how beautiful I found it. You have your family, they are talking to you, you had a teaching moment, you are home and warm and your refrigerator is still on to keep the beverage of choice cool (I stick it out in the garage in this weather, why pay for cooling when I have plenty available for free). And a wife to tell you the score...wow. When we were planning our retirement house, one of my wife's non-negotiables was sepaby mikefocke, '01S Sanford, NC - Main Forum
QuoteMikenOH That hurts. Is this the first "big ticket" repair on this car? If it is, you certainly have done well with it to this point. Has this repair started you thinking about the limits of $'s you'd spend to fix the car? How many $? What frequency of incidents? I've over-maintained so darn many cars that I should have junked or sold for what I could get for them but then that is wisdoby mikefocke, '01S Sanford, NC - Main Forum
So they got hot enough to pick up the rubber? Or was it just wedged in there? Did you know our rubber tires on average use only 14% real rubber and there is a world wide shortage...so bad that tire companies are sponsoring the planting of thousands of trees!by mikefocke, '01S Sanford, NC - Main Forum
I'm in charge of the roads and every 3 hours of daylight during and after a storm I tour all the roads and report back to the neighbors on the conditions. Made for some harry driving this AM. Patches that were dry and then patches of ice. Even with great new all seasons, 4WD and 5MPH I'd slide and then just pick my dry spot to check my speed on some hills. Plus then you have to make the call whenby mikefocke, '01S Sanford, NC - Main Forum
