They are all feeling good because of last years bonus checks. And all car companies have been getting over the give-em-away era and are intent on profit from every car. Look at the Porsche allocation.by mikefocke, '01S Sanford, NC - Main Forum
And are the center caps pointed towards the air valves? (Aren't they wonderful machines. Sure beat the alternative.)by mikefocke, '01S Sanford, NC - Main Forum
can leak any of several fluids from any number of places. What I suggest is you put some newspapers (remember what they are?) and see if it drips tonight. Do some measurements and see if you can figure out where on the car/engine the drips are dropping from. That will give a clue. Left side, right side, center? Rear of engine where it meets trans? What color? Are we sure it is oil? What does tby mikefocke, '01S Sanford, NC - Main Forum
An "IMS kit not Raby". Jake uses a LNengineering part. I'm aware of 3, Hartach in the UK, LN and Pelican (not available yet). Pictures of a Spanish fellow's IMS design were pretty well debunked on the net as being just CAD drawings. Never seen any others. So what did you use?by mikefocke, '01S Sanford, NC - Main Forum
Most boxster amps are in the front trunk. Likewise CD changers. There are of course cars without either. On my '01 the CD is on the left looking from the front and the amp is the middle. You have a MOST wiring system in your '04. That isn't just the simple copper wires of yore. In the states, there is an out fit that sells wiring kits and instructions (Crutchfields) and it may be worth an internby mikefocke, '01S Sanford, NC - Main Forum
http://www.classic9leathershop.com/Seat_Reupholstery_Service_and_Kits.html is one that sells kits and may be a place to start. The back of Excellence mag has them and some others advertising kits. But these guys saoud as if they might make em. Also consider the wrecking yards as it may be easier just to swap the seat if you can find one that matches. but this tubing seems to connect with water in it the top of two aquariums at the point where there should be an airspace in each. As usual, I don't get it.by mikefocke, '01S Sanford, NC - Main Forum
though I've learned to park it with the back sticking out a long way lest someone pull in not seeing it hidden between two huge SUVs. I take the trash to the dump in it, drive to WalMart in it, etc. It is only a car. Though what a car.by mikefocke, '01S Sanford, NC - Main Forum
But Posche has a history of trying to remedy the cause...witness 3 revisions of the IMS before finally giving up.by mikefocke, '01S Sanford, NC - Main Forum
You didn't buy the car new from a dealer. You didn't buy a car that came through the Canadian licensed distributor. You didn't have records showing you always had service at a dealership. You hadn't purchased several Porsches from authorized dealerships. Your car wasn't just out of warranty. All these elements seem to come into play when special consideration is given in the case of engine fby mikefocke, '01S Sanford, NC - Main Forum
Raby is seeing so many non-IMS failures that are water pump related he is recommending preventative replacements. There is no one making a metal impeller vanes pump. Raby thought of it but too expensive. He uses OEM, not aftermarket. This on $24k engines. Cum grano salis. Chacun a son gout.by mikefocke, '01S Sanford, NC - Main Forum
Also consider getting a code reader and reading the code yourself. Works on all recent cars, not just on P-cars. $40-80 and it has saved me many more $ than it cost on my other cars even ignoring its potential utility on the P-car. It enables you to have some idea of what is wrong so you can figure out if you need immediate service or not. Not knowing is the scary part. if the PPI's you've paid for didn't inform you of lots of things you didn't know about a prospective car. Look at the form Pedro uses as an example. I know when my current Boxster had a PPI 5 years ago I learned about about 20 items that were not obvious. Trivial things like thickness of rotors, missing air scoops under the car, cylinder condition, alignment, etc. Would I have caught them all, noby mikefocke, '01S Sanford, NC - Main Forum
and pulled into the parking lot at the dealer. Bought out of state and brought back to NOVA IIRC. I was stunned at how it shone rich looking and yet appropriate for the car. Then they go make it an optional color...darn marketing types. Only thing worse is Arctic Silver being extra cost.by mikefocke, '01S Sanford, NC - Main Forum
where the bean counters aren't asking for cost reductions. It all depends on what parts are "cost reduced versions" as some of those may be an improvement. Went out today with snow on the ground. I nice lined top kept me snug and the cabin was quiet. Now why do I want the weight of a folding hardtop? Why do I want to space robbing design?by mikefocke, '01S Sanford, NC - Main Forum
Something I always add in to the deal if buying from a dealer. For the next 30 days, I get to buy from your shop any part or accessory I want at your cost. No markup. Costs them very little and there is almost always something I feel the need for. You could even negotiate a 5 year you could buy a remanufactured engine at cost deal. There are all sorts of ways to create value for you while seemiby mikefocke, '01S Sanford, NC - Main Forum
I was in the lady's kitchen, a very upper class house overlooking the pasture where they kept their horses. I said I don't know, let me look. I went out to my car and reached in and read some actual quotes I had gotten somewhere. Came back to her and said "based on some comparables I just looked at, $nnnnn is the best I can do". The offer I made was ~$4.5k less than she was asking. She took it, sby mikefocke, '01S Sanford, NC - Main Forum
works but if it gets corrupted by the s/w here on the forum, all I did to get it to work was paste it into my browser and delete a few characters after buyers. All it does is show pictures and explain a whole new set of problems the brit equivalent of Jake and Charles are seeing in 997s and 987s. darn interesting article as to the complexities that the engineers are dealing with. And on the things manufacturers do to save money that turn out to have unexpected consequences. http://www.hartech.org/docs/buyers%20guide%20web%20format%20Dec%202010%20part%205.pdf They strongly suggest a low temp thermostat on any 3.4 or larger engine.by mikefocke, '01S Sanford, NC - Main Forum
you get a heater and defroster that actually works and isn't a variation of the same exhaust manifold mounted tube that was used on the Model A (as an option!)by mikefocke, '01S Sanford, NC - Main Forum

Unless the snow is light and you get it every few inches. I'm 6' 200+ and had an 8HP 24" 2-stage blower that was brand new and had a quick start. It replaced a much older iron monster. But even with the new one, I was sore the next day. Of course that was after I did my 2 driveways and some for the neighbors and the court itself because it was going to be last on the priority list for the county.by mikefocke, '01S Sanford, NC - Main Forum
Dealer may collect from the plowing contractor. So dealer may not be taking the total hit. And maybe you could insist as part of the deal on a new hood and a complete front end respray in a way that doesn't show on the CarFax. By the way, if I had a complete picture record before repairs and write-up of the damage and parts used to fix, I wouldn't be that put off buying a multi-owner car at tby mikefocke, '01S Sanford, NC - Main Forum
was as I turned near the house and blew a line of snow against the house and created this odd line of packed snow high up on the house's wall. what you all use all the extra dials and buttons for. As a basketball referee I carried a digital timer watch as a backup. And now have a multi-function digital on my arm but have never used any of the functions that don't just tell me date and time. So just curious ... are they for style or do you use the extras often?by mikefocke, '01S Sanford, NC - Main Forum
when the two poster boys of Boxster longevity, Pedro and Marc, both suffer engine failures. Although worthy of note neither is probably caused by the one item everyone talks about.by mikefocke, '01S Sanford, NC - Main Forum
If I'm on a long trip, on level land, in mild temperatures, in my wife's Acura...I use an every other tank of mid-grade. If the conditions aren't optimum, it is the higher grade. And the Porsche gets only best octane premium.by mikefocke, '01S Sanford, NC - Main Forum
who bought the Z and then rather quickly transitioned to a Mustang to chime in. Maybe he can give you his opinion. If you are wanting practicality and 2 year residual value, I'm not sure a Boxster is what I'd pick. I did use is as a dd but with a backup for several years successfully and it was more fun than a Dodge Grand Caravan (effectively the previous car I was driving...don't ask). Clever way of determining the roundness of the holes. In this age of digital sight lines, to have a plumb bob is probably becoming unusual. Wonder what my kids will think it is when they clean up my stuff?by mikefocke, '01S Sanford, NC - Main Forum
